Tomonobu Itagaki On Dead or Alive 5: “My Daughter Was Totally Ruined”

lol I don't understand how someone can say Itagaki is stupid or can't make games, while being on a DOA forum. DOA5 is still DOA. All the core mechanics are exactly the same as before. All they did was change the character models, which some people like and some don't. And there's also superfluous additions like PBs and CBs but those could be taken out with a patch and it'd still be the same game, just replace CB with launcher and PB with juggle.

As far as DOA4 goes, it outsold DOA5 and got better reviews, so you can't say the man doesn't know what he's doing. Is it a legit fighter? No, but I'd argue that no DOA has been and probably never will be. If you didn't like DOA4 that's fine, try DOA2U. You may be surprised to find out that 5U is just a combination of 2U and 4!

Sounds like he feels that DOA5's approach to becoming more competitively viable in the gameplay department somehow alienated casual fans.
If anything, the game has gained more casual fans than alienated, especially with the batch of DLC being released for it. Oh, and Core Fighters.

Honestly, I may be an uncool candidate when I say this, but it's best to leave this shit alone. All this is doing is stirring up a bunch of trouble. It's obvious that no matter how you reason with him (Rikuto & Sorwah), he swept a lot of your posts under the rug. He's already made up his mind to disagree with you.

I respect him for what he's done, but it's just elementary at this point to me. Either he's doing to see where everyone's heart is or to get over on Team Ninja.
You're part of the cool kids club, yet you consider this rather cool statement "uncool"...

How is this back on the top, of the front page? lol.
All that I gather from Itagaki still harping on this, is that he knows Devils Third is going to bomb. Which I don't want to be true, but damn... I would much rather here him talk about Valhalla, or their game or anything, besides the shit he left behind (in a poor state even). All this "new TN" bitching is getting kind of sad at this point. And I say this as a long time fan of the guy.

I hope I'm misinterpreting that, because such an argument would be stupid as all hell. But alas, I am a pessimist with a convincing track record.

I think that's what he means too.
Apparently, DOA was never supposed to be a serious fighter apparently according to him which I honestly don't understand in the least. Why make it a fighting game then?

As for the look of the characters? I honestly can't go back to pre-DOA5 anymore due to how they look now. It's like an extreme night and day difference that makes the ladies more gorgeous and makes the men less plastic.

In the end, thank god itagaki's click of fanboys barely matters at this rate and while I kinda wish he can be back into NG(Kinda because if he did, it would only be a Ryu Hayabusa only game rather than atleast including Kasumi, Ayane and HOPEFULLY FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, Hayate and show them why they are badasses on some level), but not the same for DOA.

There's actually some life now in their faces. XD

There's more than just life, it honestly feels...real.
In past DOA games, you had a 100% anime feel with them that really just didn't jive with how painful some of the character stories and arcs went(seriously, it's really hard to see Jann Lee's life but then suddenly take him more seriously when he looks like he came out of a mangaka's artwork, same with Kasumi and her general existence in DOA's timeline and Ayane's entire life).

Gameplay wise, the game is much more skill based. You can't hate on new TN for making the game require slightly more skill than prior games in the series. Visually, the characters DO look better. Denying that is just dumb. No offense if you're one of those people, but seriously... if you prefer how they looked in DOA4 you're better off switching over to 2D anime fighters. Cause they all looked the exact same due to their anime faces.

The only reason to be dissing on DOA5-U-LR is the fact they're releasing all these costumes for a ridiculous price. It doesn't affect the gameplay, it just makes them look extremely money hungry. Which is fine, that seems to be the trend with games these days. DLC on DLC on DLC then a new version of said game with all the DLC at a cheaper price.

But in regards to things that actually matter, DOA5/U is superior in every aspect when comparing them to everything prior. At least in my opinion anyway. And I've been playing DOA since the PSX release of the first DOA. I don't have an opinion on the story though, cause no matter the fighter- the story is always nonsense.

NEW TN > OLD TN imo. So Itagaki can run his mouth, I could care less. Hayashi has made the game better anyway.... at least to me.

Yea attempting to hold a dialogue with Itagaki is pointless. If you disagree with him on anything, he just ignores you. He talks about people holding self righteous opinions, but that's just the worst.

So I'm done there.

Well, whatever. Nothing will come of this anyway.

There is no cool kids club. Enough of that shit.
I hate when he does this bullshit. He doesn't do this offline. Not to derail the topic, it just seems like he shoves points aside for his benefit.

He's been doing it for 10 years. There's a lot of people who just ignore his accounts because he always feels he has to play the martyr for unnecessary reasons. I've even seen him tell people to not even bother joining the community because he fears the person will be attacked for stating their valid opinions.

*cough*

Mr Itagaki said he is disgusted Momiji and Rachel are in DOA5U on Facebook. Stating they are heroines of Ninja Gaiden not DOA. I dont want him to make DOA6! Keep him away from Team Ninja! Please! Rachel & Momiji are my mains!

I actually agree with him on this, because it was just plain lazy of them to port over ng in an attempt to cash in on brand recognition, rather than make a new character.

I'm curious what his opinoins on Rig, Mila, and Marie Rose are though.

But Rachel and Momiji were requested for too long, which was since the alpha demo of DOA5 Vanilla. The main reason for why they were included in the first place. Either way, they are both good characters in DOA. They also got a full move list, and a model rework. Not really lazy, as it takes TIME to do that shit.

They are good additions to DOA. They're here to stay. And Itagaki is never touching development for a DOA game again.

Well...not really. I can't speak for Momiji too much (people say she's a variation of Hayabusa), but Rachel is a spinoff of Nicole, with a moveset more geared towards juggles than the former was.

Either way, I woulda rather had new stuff than all this Ninja Gaiden content (characters, costumes, stages, etc)

Except I woulda loved Doku, I admit.
