DOA5 and Sexualization: Too Much?

See, what people find "sexy" is in the eye of the beholder. IMO, I find that DOA is game that allows the female characters to be confident, attractive, and talented women who can hold their own against the muscle bound, athletically built male characters. But I also have a friend who doesn't think any of the DOA women are "sexy" or "attractive," so that says a lot. I've said it plenty of time, but DOA and sex appeal has been with the series since the beginning. I, for one, am glad that the DOA girls don't look like the MK or Injustice girls (who look like straight up drag queens). And as a casual fan who does his best to buy ALL of the costume DLC, I normally tend to stay away from using bikinis because I don't like seeing them on anything that's NOT Zack Island.

Even with Ayane, who I find as the most attractive of the DOA girls, I tend to use her more conservative outfits. Best of all, if you do not want to see the skimpy costume DLC, then don't download the catalogs or the DLC itself. The game is as sexual as you want to make it. However, we shouldn't completely banish the sex appeal of DOA, because that's what makes the game stand out from other 3D fighters. At the end of the day, we all play DOA because we love the fighting mechanics. The aesthetics come second to majority of us and if people do not want to give DOA a chance because of skimpy outfits, then maybe these are not the kind of people we want playing our game. Just my two cents...

With DOAX2 TN officialy became the "boob" company. They always were in a way, but after that game... damn. And they (TN&KT) are still more obsessed with it than their fans. They made NG ads about breasts. Like really?

I don't find the DLC (the kinds of or amount of) out of place at all. Except for the lack of anything for the male characters. That is just the business model now, sadly. DOA2 had many "revisions" and in DOA2U, the girls had like what 20 costumes? And alot of them were dumb and skimpy, more original though. Its the same now. Only doubled (not for the guys) and we pay instead of unlock them.
Other than being a DOA game, the only thing that sticks out being too sexualized in DOA5(any version) is the Gravure videos DLC. And thats just because I find them weird.

I think it seems like people are fine with whatever being in the game, but you should be careful with what you use to promote the game. Does that lead to being disingenuous? Trapping people? I dunno.

Where does the idea come from that there major sales argument for LR ist the "soft engine"? It's not even mentioned in any of the official videos, or the non-japanese site for the game (and it's not that easy to spot on the japanese site either) And when did that feature actually turn into a physics thing? Wasn't it some graphic improvement? Like some (better) SSS or something... I mean a sweating Rig is one of the sample images... showcasing boob physics with a still image of a guy is probably not that effective.
The only person that talked a lot about the soft engine is Hayashi, no? Nothing good ever happens when he is the only guy that talks about the game lol

But, that was indeed in Japan. I can only imagine what would happen if he tried to pull that at a Western event...

The soft engine is both the new way the skin is rendered in addition to a new boob motion option, "soft". The boobs interact with gravity and can collide with each other now, don't you know.

I was actually quite shocked that they included the shirtless Rig photo on their site..., but my gut says that that's probably because of previous complaints. lol

The DLC model has and will continue to be TN's strongest argument for why they will continue to endorse the sexualization of their ladies. The voices telling them they've gone too far are drowned out by the $$$ they bring in with the swimsuits, gravure vids, etc... So when you say "Stop making so many fetish packs!" TN sees it as "Stop making so much money!".

Yeah. This does carry with it the implication that anyone that wants costumes that aren't that (like more classic costumes or more male costumes, for instance) are basically neeeeeever going to get what they want, though. Like, ever.

Anything sexual is overdone in DOA... it's probably worse than it's been before. At one time we got a few bikinis a game per girl (most of them were tasteful enough to at least call bikinis) and great original costumes. Now we have 30 costumes a girl, and a bikini isn't the only method of stripping the females of all their clothing, so you could say each character has at least 5-10 super revealing outfits.

Not only that but you can customize how fast the breasts bounce. That's a crazy convenience. So yes, DOA is over-done, but you can be pretty specific on the speed -- keeping everyone from prudes to perverts happy. But even then I can hardly keep my face out of the boob sizes. Nyo's are freaking enormous, and allegedly the next girl will be the "biggest." Are you shitting me? How? Why?

Have you seen the pics of staff with the mouse pads... the grins.. the public perv level... disgusting.

At one time, the swimsuit lovers had a game called DOAX they could venture to... also being treated to quite an intimate experience with those girls. These bikinis belong there. Me picking a bikini doesn't help me in combat much, infact it does the exact opposite. I feel my character's humiliation so often I select men with bad ass outfits... that's what can make a fight look cool... and that should have been the marketing plan for the game's DLC... but Team NINJA says the bikinis sell the best.

So I've come to the conclusion that a lot of these people that complain and whine about the bikini dlc are closet perverts because at some point we should all realize someone is lying.

Team NINJA is over-doing in almost every category possible. Tons of bikinis, revealing outfits, adjustable breast bounce, breast mouse pads, pictorial mode, fetish outfits, breasts continue to grow more and more... maybe I'm missing something?

We get some stolen dungarees instead; yet, with the other stuff they over-did regarding her, I guess we should let that slide!

Not necessarily. It's just that the casual and male outfits are far and few between. If you remember there was a 9 month drought that just ended last month when we finally saw male outfits during Halloween. And notice how they always make sure that a select number of girls have sexy outfits in every pack to ensure the DLC makes some money when they are released.

But hey look at the bright side, after the halloween outfits we only have to wait 4 months this time before seeing male outfits in LR. XD

To bad it's an online game i just have the original SCV but i'm glad that this game gives you customization that's the benefit make your character same as Tekken. Will Tekken follow it yes but it wont take control of the whole game or when SC6 drop ivy will get bigger LOL. There are positives and negatives to customization but the fact is they have more competitive players that show up either tekken or SCV. In the end customization isn't played offline for America mostly japan arcades.

A Balance you serious Lol no OMG mode is a useless feature you may find it funny but in the end you still know what it is Boobs bouncing does that really scream FGC or casual you choose. There is no way they can balance 400 costumes with stages and characters.

Of course Tekken 7 is going to follow. In Tekken Revolution even, you could see that they were trying to make their female characters more attractive. In Tekken 7, they're looking great in early builds. Also, look at Katarina. Her outfit looks like something you'd find in a DOA game. Hell, Christie had very sexy outfits when she was introduced in Tekken 4. As for Soulcalibur Legends, that game is trash and I find it hard to believe people are actually putting money into that game.
