I'm honestly really excited for FF and Dissidia FF now at this point, I'm gonna have to look again at the current roster so I can see all the people I'm interested in, although I am not very knowledgeable about their back stories Since I'm still new to the series, I've chosen the people I want to play in Dissidia based on personality, gameplay and appearance mainly.

From who's been announced so far I'd say I'll be going with Lightning the most, Though that will probably change once Yuna etc start getting announced.

Edit: I'm interested in Terra and Materia as well.

Forgot to mention that Sephiroth is pretty monotone as well. It wasn't until the movie and KH2 on revealing it since FFVII didn't have voice actors for the game at the time. Also some of the fans like him being a masochist to Cloud with all that kinky things that's been going around and creating this trend of yaoi fiction.

Still undecided on who I want to use, but Sephiroth did caught my attention for sub characters. He wasn't easy to play either since he relied on specifics, mistakes from the opponent, and using long HP attacks with lots of push back and accumulating BRV, though that changed a bit due to this Dissidia being a whole new game in mechanics and movelists.

To be brief...

FF1: Warrior of Light. Wasn't given a name, but was told by prophecy that he would appear in the world's time of need. Has a sword and shield. Fairly balanced character.

FF2: Firion: Made an orphan after an empire wiped out his village. Sought refuge in another town and joined the ranks of freedom fighters to overthrow it. Uses a variety of weapons and is a partial inspiration of Noctis. Has been consistently top tier since the beginning.

FF3: Onion Knight. Similar to WoL, but was an orphan who stumbled upon a crystal and was chosen by it to fight against a future evil. Very nimble and fast. Alternates between Ninja and Sage class as a nod to the jobs being the most overpowered in the original game.

FF4: Cecil Harvey: My personal favorite protagonist in the series. Send a PM if you want to read a rant later on. Another well-rounded character that can shift between Paladin and Dark Knight classes, each with different effects for similar moves.

FF5: Bartz Klauser: One of the more lighthearted protagonists of the series and arguably one of the most powerful in the series canon. Borrows moves from various members of the cast, with a few unique ones of his own. Recommended for more advanced players.

FF6: Terra Branford: Send a PM if you want to read a rant later on. One of the most solid magic users in the game. Great for opening up defenses and zoning.

FF7: Cloud Strife: The poster boy of the FF series. Big sword, moody af, often abused in yaoi fanfiction by Sephiroth. Had a very shitty start in Dissidia Arcade, but is now a viable character thanks to some much-needed adjustments to his hurtbox for certain moves.

FF8; Squall: Balamb Garden's finest gunblade specialist whose skill is matched only by his antisocial behavior. Was extremely overpowered in the first build of Dissidia Arcade, but is still decent after the massive damage nerfs.

FF9: Zidane: My personal second favorite protagonist in the series. Send a PM if you want to read a rant later on. Wasn't quite the beast he was in Dissidia 012, and he isn't getting any better, sadly.

FF10: Tidus: An upcoming blitzball player following the footsteps of the father he hates until his hometown was completely destroyed by the monster Sin. An evading machine who has been consistently high-tier in every iteration of Dissidia to this very day. Recommended for beginners.

I'll have to stop here because I got errands to make at this time. If anyone else wants to follow up, fine by me.

Here it is, did some digging via Crisis Core. Silver Elite is a fan club of people outside of Shinra. Mostly consist of Sephiroth since he was the most popular SOLDIER at the time:

From: Silver Elite

Contents:

Dear members of the Silver Elite:
In this update, we present another piece of Sephiroth
trivia—the secrets to his beautiful long hair.
The hair products he uses are of the highest grade,
made and supplied by the Shinra Company.
He seems to use one whole bottle of both shampoo
and conditioner every time he washes his hair.
They are scented with thirteen kinds of perfumes,
including Rose and Vanilla.
Apparently, the scent in the air after
Sephiroth tosses his hair changes daily!

Received: After joining the Silver Elite.

For jokes, there's even a cringeful parody commerical of a Sephiroth shampoo product that's on Youtube. I'd avoid that commercial everyone.

Idk names by heart so I'll have to look again and make a list of who I like and see their appearance. Thanks Awesmic!

You'd probably like Onion Knight, but I hear he's worse in the upcoming Dissidia than the previous one. Awesmic might fill you in on that. Terra is also good, but not an easy character to play with against certain characters.

For example, Onion Knight can be straight shit against Shantotto, but fucking solid against people like Garland.

I Dissidia 012 I used Yuna, Squall and..... Bartz (I main Honoka in DOA, can you blame me? xD). Squall and Bartz are already in so I'm waiting for Yuna's reveal and please be the summoner one.
Though I don't know if I'll use Bartz this time, since I have to see first his complete moveset when it releases on consoles. I liked the moves he "stole" in 012.

I hear Bartz has improved with the new system in play. Bartz wasn't particularly super strong but he was never ever bad, I still think he was really good. I use to be part of the Dissidia forums (was also a moderator for WoL, Gabranth, Laguna, and Jecht character forums back then but gave it to LightsLuna because I left for college reasons. I hear the forums don't exist anymore.) and Dissidia Adhoc play battles back then and won tons of PSN cards using OFF rules default. I use to sell those PSN cards for real money.

EDIT: Yeah, they don't exist anymore. http://dissidiaforums.com/index.php

Well here's a chart of the characters that looked fine to me game play and appearance wise:
Fotor_147853880522374.jpg

I preferred the second skins for Ramza and Onion Knight(DB was right on his prediction saying he might interest me XD, he looks fun to use). I hope they add more girls later down the line, I wasn't sold on Terra, she doesn't really fit my criteria and I'm not too into Lightning. If Yuna is added I'll definitely use her, it seems FF doesn't have many female protagonists it seems. :-/ This will be my first game where I use more male than female characters, but there's still hope since they plan on adding lots more characters.

Didn't know the fanbase was that crazy. I just know he sells out the yaoi booths in the dealers' rooms of anime conventions. I don't think I've ever been more afraid of a crowd of rabid fangirls. Not after they ran me over twice.

Only way that's gonna happen is if the home console version somehow make an entirely different system from the ground up with 1v1 gameplay in mind to play more like 012 without the chase mechanic. And even then, she has to strictly be an assist.

I wonder why Aeris can only be an assist... ~_~ if she was playable she would be my main like she is my top spot in Theatrhythm. Really sad Tifa got in instead of her (although it's understandable because Tifa is a monk-style character and looks sexier).

Also, I'm sorry to hear you got ran over by hordes of yaoi fangirls. It must have been scary.

I forgot Ramza is in the roster now. Well...... there's Ace if you want to use. He's pretty bland though. Card oriented moveset seems cool but it really depends. Gameplay just seems more different to his Type-0 counterpart.

I I've been thinking about it and I'm 90% sure Sora will be a DLC character. They can't put him in before as that would give Disney a cut for all sales, but if they made him optional they would only have to pay for all DLC sales. It would also keep the FF purist from freaking out if he was in the main game because he's not a final fantasy character.

Disney has nothing to do with Sora though. It's a character made by Square Enix themselves (apart from outfit designs such as his default done by the help of an artist from Disney, but that was an idea and hand drawn by Square anyway). As much as how silly it is to bring him, I don't see it as a big big issue. I'd leave him out but it's whatever really.

SE may have designed him but Disney owns the rights to kingdom hearts.

If you're talking about Dissidia, Sora has been officially deconfirmed in a Sept. 26 interview by Nomura himself.

Brave Fencer Musashi - and to a lesser extent, Samurai Legend Musashi - has a better chance of making it in as it stands now.

It's been 2 weeks since that happened. Unless the admins have migrated elsewhere without announcing themselves, it looks like we're on our own in keeping up with content for the game.

Watching video, holding opinions atm... will edit.
Wow he has been toned down hard.
His aesthetics are no longer about lightning fast attacks. Lost a few attacks but he got a few new ones.
Looks like he has a passive ability to dash after hitting with attacks, perfectly timing gets him dashing faster.
Not sure I like how he turned out right now, my favorite move was cut and he lost quite a few HP attacks.

BTW Sephiroth is popular because FF7. Yes, he is a very powerful person but his power and character is not why he is popular imo (people use that as an excuse nowadays, he is awful as a character). He never expresses any emotion beyond slight joy and slight sadness, even when not polygonal and voice acted. Very monotone, unemotional to a fault, his power is all he really is as a character. As a Dissidia charcater he really looks dull now, especially with his cut Brave Attacks, let alone his Meteor and rapid slash HP attacks (and Sin Harvest and EX Mode).
