I'm honestly really excited for FF and Dissidia FF now at this point, I'm gonna have to look again at the current roster so I can see all the people I'm interested in, although I am not very knowledgeable about their back stories Since I'm still new to the series, I've chosen the people I want to play in Dissidia based on personality, gameplay and appearance mainly.
To be brief...
FF1: Warrior of Light. Wasn't given a name, but was told by prophecy that he would appear in the world's time of need. Has a sword and shield. Fairly balanced character.
FF2: Firion: Made an orphan after an empire wiped out his village. Sought refuge in another town and joined the ranks of freedom fighters to overthrow it. Uses a variety of weapons and is a partial inspiration of Noctis. Has been consistently top tier since the beginning.
FF3: Onion Knight. Similar to WoL, but was an orphan who stumbled upon a crystal and was chosen by it to fight against a future evil. Very nimble and fast. Alternates between Ninja and Sage class as a nod to the jobs being the most overpowered in the original game.
FF4: Cecil Harvey: My personal favorite protagonist in the series. Send a PM if you want to read a rant later on. Another well-rounded character that can shift between Paladin and Dark Knight classes, each with different effects for similar moves.
FF5: Bartz Klauser: One of the more lighthearted protagonists of the series and arguably one of the most powerful in the series canon. Borrows moves from various members of the cast, with a few unique ones of his own. Recommended for more advanced players.
FF6: Terra Branford: Send a PM if you want to read a rant later on. One of the most solid magic users in the game. Great for opening up defenses and zoning.
FF7: Cloud Strife: The poster boy of the FF series. Big sword, moody af, often abused in yaoi fanfiction by Sephiroth. Had a very shitty start in Dissidia Arcade, but is now a viable character thanks to some much-needed adjustments to his hurtbox for certain moves.
FF8; Squall: Balamb Garden's finest gunblade specialist whose skill is matched only by his antisocial behavior. Was extremely overpowered in the first build of Dissidia Arcade, but is still decent after the massive damage nerfs.
FF9: Zidane: My personal second favorite protagonist in the series. Send a PM if you want to read a rant later on. Wasn't quite the beast he was in Dissidia 012, and he isn't getting any better, sadly.
FF10: Tidus: An upcoming blitzball player following the footsteps of the father he hates until his hometown was completely destroyed by the monster Sin. An evading machine who has been consistently high-tier in every iteration of Dissidia to this very day. Recommended for beginners.
I'll have to stop here because I got errands to make at this time. If anyone else wants to follow up, fine by me.
