What's next? A dildo hidden underneath Kasumi's wakizashi sword's scabbard?
Made my day XD

In all seriousness though, they need to make non-sexualized merchandise to be honest. There's barely any figurines for any of the guys, posters, t-shirts, etc.
I believe the overall opinion wasn't that they're attacking things you're liking but how it's effecting the fanbase and entrants into the fan base. Someone earlier made a post about not knowing anything about doa other then it's sexual overtures. If the amount of bikinis didn't harm doa's "face", then i'm sure nobody would complain. At the end of the day if dead or alive were as popular as let's say tekken or street fighter nobody would care about the huge amount of bikinis but it's just from the people stepping and viewing it all the sexual undertones on practically everything.
Your online persona/posting history, made your statement seem arrogant.
Sorry, did my best at a disclaimer there. My bad.Not to sound like a pretentious twit, because I realize these don't mean much, but I have way, way more likes on this site than anyone else by a landslide, and I earned those by being my regular, dickish self. My opinions aren't always the most popular, but I'm always true to what I believe and I seem to be pretty well-tolerated for it.
As long as there is a Bayman or Leon one, I'd be willing to get myself broke for it.
In all seriousness though, they need to make non-sexualized merchandise to be honest. There's barely any figurines for any of the guys, posters, t-shirts, etc. (sans Ryu) yet the girls (usually features Kasumi, Ayane, Leifang, Kokoro, Momiji, Hitomi) have an endless amount of merchandise ranging from silicon-infused mouse pads to custom-made real life swimsuits taken from XBV.

Sure, some people think swimsuits make the game less popular, and some think they make it more popular. If DoA had no sexual overtures, would the person you mentioned know anything about DoA at all? Who knows.
I still think SOME of the people who are vocally anti-swimsuit, have done so for more selfish reasons, than the good of the larger DoA community.
Let's face it, most of the cast isn't that interesting, especially the guys, sans Ryu and Hayate.
1) I'm straight and i'd go broke for a leon love pillow.
I'd have to keep it away from my Mila love pillow though, because I'm still sticking by the theory that they are father and daughter.
Then again, that'd be one hot threesome (me in the middle, of course)...but I better not come home to those two pillows spooning without me, or it'd be weird and someone has to move out.
2) I want hyperdetailed 8-10 inch figures/statues of Leon and Mila. I want them so hardcore.
After 7 swimsuit sets, I think every time a trailer or a screenshot of them gets revealed, it feel like there's nothing new about them anymore. The repetitive loop of seeing the same old girls in Zack Island on the screenshot/trailer. To be honest, the latest one even felt dull (mostly because the majority were revealing unlike in previous DLCs, one is bound to be eye-catching from the rest).
Everything will be alright unless someone is messing with your room and placed them close to each other (or if you believe that they can "come to life" like the Toy Story movies).
You're free to have your opinion and all, but you will get some shit for being a....how do I put this..."public's idea of a stereotypical DOA fan".
I'm not saying less popular because people know about doa, I'm saying less popular because of the willingness to join the actual game is a different story. Everyone in the fgc where i currently am knows about doa but they won't touch it because i had complaints about the skimpiness of the outfits and ect.
Virtua Fighter doesn't get accused of people shallow for having the same amount of buttons.I worry that people who are familiar with Tekken and Streetfighter, will play DoA for 5 minutes and decide it is shallow, (because there is "only" one button for punch and one for kick etc),
I only included Hayate because he had some interesting development. Was first Ein, then turned into Hayate. But after that, his character development went downhill. He can't be as bad ass as Hayabusa.
Sheer manliness is wont to do such things, and even Leon's likeness can likely produce enough manliness for it to happen.
But back on the bikini dlc, only reason I even bothered to get the outfit for Mila is because that jacket was awesome

SF's buttons... sigh...
I missed your edit, but I find this line very interesting.
I think the fear of that label, plays a big part in some people not being honest about what they want.
Wanting sub-Playboy level nudity, in a game with hot girls, isnt enough to qualify for the "weirdo category", IMO. Its just something I'd laugh about and say "that'd be cool" when talking to a group of (hetero male) friends.
I would argue that the sex appeal makes the game known and the more known it is, the more people will play it.
I worry that people who are familiar with Tekken and Streetfighter, will play DoA for 5 minutes and decide it is shallow, (because there is "only" one button for punch and one for kick etc), more than I worry about people being scared off by skimpy outfits.

This is why I actually dislike Hayate, he killed off my fave male non-ninja character.Ein was cool.
Then Hayate happened.
Honestly this was me scrolling down then reading thisbut its when its adults that its just creepy. All I can think of, is this old 40s security guard who worked at the student housing, would follow the teen-20s college girls around, and try to talk to us (the college guys) about "all this nice PUSSY!!!" (Yes, he said it with that much emphasis). I was trying to stay open minded (maybe he's just lonely, and sure, a guy checking out young girls is fine), but he was just so fuckin CREEPY about it. Didn't help that he would just walk into our apartment and go to sleep on my roommates bed without asking, all the time, but that's just icing on the creepy cake.
