Errr guys this is DOA,its a titty fighter first and foremost any compeditiveness you guys liked in the earleir ones was likley accedental or with DOA 3.1 a flat out mistake.you can go ahead and get pissed but keep in mind this is like complaining about stealth in a Metal Gear game.

But DOA is good according to its INTENDED fanbase and I'm telling you right now that's not you.dont get me wrong i think the breast jiggling is stupid as hell and it never gets any use on my Sigma 2,but I just find it funny how you go around acting like TN owes you this super technical game when in reality they honestly don't.you chose to believe DOA is something that its not this recent patch made that quite clear they were nice enough to give you tag,but you aren't the targeted consumer and honestly probably never will be.so I find it quite funny and honestly stupid when you complain about this.Yes DOA said they were going to tone down the sexuality, but their intended fans said no so they listened now we have this because TN does listen to its fans...kinda,the DLC costumes still suck but obviously someone likes them somewhere.

If there were no sex appeal in the game I would still play it.

but mgs games are actually good though DOA is all smoke and mirrors.
More fucking people who think the game is garbage and stick around for some deluded reason just to bitch about it.
*sigh*

Ah, so that's why the 360 patch takes so long. They try to implement it via Kinect.

Seriously, it's just TNs running gag since Sigma 2. Nothing special, but worth a LOL.

Sex appeal in the DOA series never bothers me at all. It just irritates me a little when critics & people in other FG communities
specifically talking about nothing but boobs everytime they're mentioning DOA but I don't give a damn, let them waste time talking shit about it.

Oh?

"For all the competitive fighters, DOA5 is better than the previous versions. We want Dead or Alive 5 to be a competitive fighting game. The game has become more competitive than it used to be before, and we have balanced and adjusted it so that it can be that way." - Yohei Shimbori

Just because you're okay with being lied to doesn't mean everybody should be.

It is? According to whom? You? The small percentage of players playing online? The small turnout for tournaments? or the fact that pretty much every discussion on these boards devolves into how shitty this game is?

DOA5 Tag is just as competitive as any other fighter. One hit and lol at the life bar.

Seriously. I play Tag, and somehow I find myself never really getting pissed off at how stupid the mechanics of the game are, even though it's theoretically more broken. Between two characters and being able to choose the starting order you can compensate for nearly any major weakness on the fly. Your options only start becoming limited once you lose a character or start taking heavy damage, which in turn adds to the strategy.

Then I play singles, I'm bored in seconds due to how... just... dumb the game is. You can't do anything creative and you're absolutely fucked if its a bad matchup thanks to being able to move prior to the round starting. It's fundamentally flawed as hell and totally matchup based to boot. Once you reach the relatively low peak of the skill plateau it has nothing to offer.

and you see how wrong i was there. DOA5 came out and everyone is still bitching about how bad it is yeah they obviously care so much about you.

The truth is inbetween both of your arguments...

The game is more competitive than it was before, but it is also still really, really, really not fun at high levels. A step in the right direction that Team Ninja likes to view as a bigger stride than it was. Then again, go back and play DOA 4 and it sort of really does feel like a massive stride.

It's like adding more and more great ingredients to make a badass pizza, but forgetting the dough. Yea there's a lot that's good but it doesn't hold together so you kinda feel like, what's the point?

But DOA also isn't a titty fighter. That's fanservice crap tossed in from the side and from a marketing viewpoint. Rumble Roses, now that game is a titty fighter. Very very big difference in the presentation of the two games if you ever need a reality check.

DOA, as it is right now, is having an identity crisis. It wants to be a hardcore competitive western fighting game. It wants to be a crazy Japanese yomi oriented game that nobody wants to play. It wants to be a titty fighter. It very recently attempted to be an anime-esque QTE fighter. It has tried to be a lot of things.

The trick is finding what, among all of that crap, is actually functional. DOA as a titty fighter is not functional -- Half the cast is male. As a solid 1v1 fighting game I would also say the game is not functional... any other 1v1 fighting game would have throw breaks and better spacing, not forcing you to take such high-risk guesses in damn near every situation.

As a tag fighter, however, the game appears to actually function somewhat. The damage is right, and when two of the right characters come together you have all the tools you need to actually play a fighting game in earnest. There aren't throw breaks, but between regenerating healthbars and the risk of instant death from a high-counter launch, it is far more manageable. Having two characters also means you can afford to pick up one of the heavy death dealers for last-stand situations and juggle ending, while your faster and more spacing friendly character takes the starting position.

And the good tools get better. That's the most important thing.

People need to get over the stigma of "but its taaaaaaaaaaaag" and just play the damn thing. Your knowledge WILL carry over and there is even more to learn on top of it. It is infinitely better than singles in every way shape and form. The only theoretical downside is that there are fewer stages and... really? Who cares. You fight in a box, or a circle, or a fucked up rectangle. Or you play in a box on top of a box on top of a rectangle. Who gives a shit?

It's sad that that's the definition of "competitive" for most people.

Is this the only message you bring to any thread?

Why don't you actually do something in the tournament scene before you go bad mouthing mechanics you clearly don't have a grasp of.

I think DOA should just keep being DOA. You don't see MK trying to be like VF. This is a fact. And its still one of the top sellers to date. People didnt initially play fighting games for "competitiveness", that just came later because of the "combo system" that one (insert company) randomly put in to simply feel like you were doing something.....

At the end of the day, I don't think it was meant to be analyzed to try to make it a complete game.

Think about it....
