Tourneys used to be headaches where people would scramble around for memory cards to copy saves for unlocks.

Not only that, but now more casual players than ever play video games and of course fighters. It's become more mainstream. And this large group of casual players will never go through all the time and pain to unlock all costumes and characters. They would only see half the content, so developers now tend to have everything unlocked at once (with new DLC to purchase) or you can unlock stuff fairly easy by several methods. I think, it's a good thing. In the past there were games, were I never was able to unlock everything, just because the difficulty level was unbeatable for me...and that sucked... XD

If I did participate in a DOA tournament, I'd have to bring my PS3 with me, mainly because I have ALL the costumes thus far. I'd hate to use someone else's system, only for them not to have a specific costume I'd want for whatever character I would use.

All I need is:

For Eliot tournament play, I would use either his C4 or C12 (Casual). Those are my favorites, but I do like the cat hoodie costume as well, even though the hoodie is glued on his head. Lol

Yeah I wish the hood would go down or the ears could be removable. :/

C4 is good and I like C12 more now that I know I can remove the hat. Hopefully he gets a new costume (since there's a rumor of new outfits for arcade).

Competitively speaking, yes having to unlock characters is a huge hassle but as a kid I always remember how an unlockable character from any game automatically made them cooler than any of the default ones. lol.

I like the way DOA 5 did it where tournament mode has every character automatically unlocked but you still had to play the regular game to unlock the characters in other modes.
That's why Ein is so special to me. I was intrigued by him when I saw that my cousin had him in DOA3 and when I unlocked him I was overjoyed. Alpha-152 was the first boss character I unlocked in Dimensions and I went from fooling around with her to becoming a fan of her character and gameplay. We need more of this. :)

I liken the unlockable costumes to games like fallout, fun the first time but after that it becomes quite tedious. I realized that when I had to re-unlock all of Bayman's stuff on Core Fighters.

Good thing this game's AI is so easily exploitable anyway, rofl.

Things get pretty nasty around 90-100th fight, I lost to Bass and Kokoro on my first 2 tries. I used Helena. What I did was after defeating one opponent, I "invited" them into the blender with 33P4P the moment they stepped on the stage and went ballistic with juggling. If I'm losing momentum, I push them far away with BKO 4P+K.

The best thing to do is probably not unlock the VFs, Alpha-152 and Gen Fu yet in story mode and just head on survival.

I was learning the basics of the game when I was completing Survival, so Helenas blender was waaay beyond my understanding. Im sure I went through all the characters trying to find ONE move that would beat everyone. I didnt have any luck though. lol
Most people I knew who were trying to complete Survival at the time, would complain about Akira. Once I figured out that I could pretty much get guaranteed damage every time he blocked one of Lisas body splashes, he was one of the easier opponents. The CPU Lisa was tough, because she would constantly move in and out of range. It could be hard to land wake up kicks on her, which was a big part of my strategy.

There was a video of Leifang cheesing her way in legendary arcade and time attack by doing the same 4P+K exploit. It's silly that it became trending at the Vanilla 5 Gamefaqs Board and was the known as scrubbiest most "omnipotent" method that time.

I was probably not that much accustomed to her move changes in Vanilla 5 and played Helena as if she was in 4/Dimensions. Akira wasn't much of a threat somehow. He wasn't even holding my lows. The 100th Lisa plays differently than the other Lisas. It was more hold-frenzy so what I did was to keep distance. Landing the wake up kick on the ninjas is harder. They tend to flip over to the other side before it hits them.
