it's like seeing a drug addict friend just start to get clean, and you think he's getting so healthy that he could win an olympic medal some day, then you wake up one morning to find out the guy OD'd on loli again. Dude,
why?
I can even take the analogy further with how you said they need to reach moeblob saturation. They say not everyone can quit, some people need to just live with it, take their regular doses in a controled and safe way, just to get normal and focus on more important things in life... but they've gotta work with us, because if they don't come to realize they have a problem to begin with, it won't work.
Before anyone gets at me about "but Tamaki is 22", yeah, I mean they could have gone with the 14 (+1000) year old, but thankfully they didn't... but the bar was low. Compared to characters in other games, especially FGs, Venus Vacation girls practically suffer from same-face-syndrome and all look too young for their age. Even the 20-somethings in VV make the regular DoA girls seem 10 years older, not to mention more unique. Take it from an unabashed watcher of harem/ecchi anime... TN's characters lately have been direct harem-anime stereotypes. What other fighting game does that? What ever happened to the FG trend of at least copying martial artists like Bruce Lee or action stars like Ahnold? Where's my Tony Jaa or Jeeja Yanin clone? Michelle Yeoh or John Wick clone? Why don't we have more Pam Grier clones yet?
Isn't there that unwritten rule, though, that everything that starts off as art eventually becomes a business, or something like that? Sooner or later everything sells out. It's just a depressing fact. This series, while it may not have started as "art", it started as a last ditch attempt by a few devs to save their publisher from going under by making the coolest game they could, and it worked. Now those same publishers are treating it like a small fry or a cow in return. It's also an unwritten law that a good life, and a good anything really, requires balance. In a FG, that doesn't only mean character gameplay, but also design and tone in general.
