Soul Calibur Thread

What do you guys think of this?

https://twitter.com/Harada_TEKKEN/status/761121228954279936?ref_src=twsrc^tfw

When someone asked Harada if a SCVI is in the works, he said "I have no comment" (in all caps, no less). Does this more or less indirectly confirm we have a new SC on the way? After all, he could've just said "no", or more realistically, not answer at all. Instead, he basically said "I'm not at liberty to say", as if there's something he's hiding. If it's not at Gamescom, then I hope TGS will be the big event.

You know what...I now think there is a chance they made this tournament for a Gamescom reveal. I thought about it a bit more:

They've made a bit of a fuss about this tournament that they are letting fans vote for on Facebook for some weeks now. They even disappointingly promoted just their Facebook action on the Comic Con panel that we thought the announcement would be on:

The reveal of the last finalist will perfectly align with the start of Gamescom next week. The "Legendary Souls Showdown" mentioned underneath the final battle would happen in the week of Gamescom.
If this would prove to be true, they could after Gamescom repeat these tournaments where fans can practically vote for the characters that will be revealed in SC6 next. They did say they are planning more of these tournaments but didn't say what they are for and what they lead to. Having a tournament that runs for over month not leading to anything good would kinda suck. They know that too, right?
But having a fan involving action as described above would be something new that would surely generate some excitement and attention.

That Harada comment wasn't really anything, It's not what he's working on atm so he can't confirm the state of the game at all, he's focused on Tekken it seems.

But why would you go out of your way to reply with:
I
HAVE
NO
COMMENT

when he could have just refused to respond or could have said: "I don't know". The way he chose to answer is imo suspicious.

Well think about Tyaren, he's asked day in and day out on twitter by fans if there will be a SC6, and Harada isn't really someone who responds to harassment well. He probably just got annoyed, he's given similar answers like this before. XD I remember when anti weaboo jerks ate up Harada over Lucky Chloe and he said he wouldn't add her to the US version. I replied directly for him not to do that and he replied to me "BUT WHY??". He was trolling but there were already alot of people on my side begging him not to do that.

Still, he'd know about the other projects going on at Namco. Especially since he and Hoshino are best buds.

Harada is not a leading participant of the Soul Calibur series. He was involved in some of the earlier ones but not in SC4 and 5. He very likely knows what's up with SC6 but has not much if anything to do with it.

What do you think about my post above yours?

That's basically what I thought when I saw that announcement thing way back when that happened, they have the game underway but they're teasing to get attention, although not the way Hoshino wants. He tweeted a while back that that shouldn't have happened.

He could possibly know something, but then again it's not his job to say anything so I wouldn't take it seriously, who knows where SC6 is in terms of completion, we don't even know if they even started, we're honestly just hoping and speculating at this point but have no solid evidence.

He didn't want that? I though the only thing he didn't want happen was the period of forced silence. I really hope that Hoshino will be good for the series. I trust him over Daishi, even though Hoshino has made some bad "spin-offs", I just know his vision will be better than Daishi's once its time for the main game.

There is definitely some suspicious action happening lately. I think they are really trying to get attention and engage old and new fans again for some upcoming thing...or else they could have let SC rest in peace like in the months and years before. Celebrating their 20th anniversary without anything substantial would be shameful and would be like the middlefinger to fans that stayed around.

You're both right, something is definitely up, they're just being secretive as to keep things under wraps for the moment. These tourneys that Tyaren posted is likely just gonna help stabilize and guarantee the veterans in the final game, but they are doing a good job testing waters. It may not be the case with SC5, but it's not entirely impossible for a new younger character to be even more popular than the person they're based off from, like Pyrrha isn't the most popular but she's not the least either, she's about mid level in comparison to her brother who's almost dead last. XD

I wonder if them changing the name of their Twitter to soulcalibur is a sign of them gearing up for a new game.

They changed the Facebook background to celebrate the 20th anniversary.

I've seen that location in the background before, but I can't quite put my finger on it. It's from an older game, can anyone tell me what stage it is? I find it interesting, dissecting every possible detail for any hint at the future. What do you guys think?

Hm, that's kinda hard to say, it looks like the sub boss cathedral room from SC4 where your character fights someone close to them, that or the sub boss cathedral room from SC5 where you fight Edge Master in Quick Battle mode but I may be wrong, that's honestly a very vague stage shot. XD

I also notice the new Soulcalibur logo that's been used since Lost Swords. What do you guys think of it? It seems alright to me. I wonder if changing the logo (like how they reverted the PS logo to the classic version with Nightmare) means a change in direction from what Daishi had planned.

...I was waiting for some other people to respond before I commented because I was afraid of being excessive, but yeah I think it means they're going back to SC's more classic and traditional roots, maybe a complete revamp on the gameplay and stuff.

Haha, was wondering about the architecture of the stage too... XD It was already used as a background of the tournament graphic. I think it is a new design.

13938493_1152980694745261_2296806213367276657_n.png

It does remind me most of the following stage:

SC5:

s38.jpg

But it is still different. Other slightly similar stages in design are:

SC5:

SC2:

SC3:

stage06.jpg

SC4:

ostrheinsberg_castle_02_by_armoredanubis-d5gqm83.png

But it is none of those either...
Is this a good sign? :)

For me it seems like a remake of the cathedral of SC2. But I guess is something new.
And talking about remaking old stages, I would love to see this stage in a new SC game.
