A fair point, but you didn't really give a DOA costume example so my question still stands. That being said, you're right in that both those girls tend to present themselves as badass more than sexy (I'm sure we can all agree that Ayane in particular qualifies as THE MOST badass girl in the series and second only to Ryu overall).
Imo, Kasumi is the most badass, but that's who I main, so that may seem a bit bias XD. Rachel's costume 1 to me qualifies, mainly because I see nothing sexy about it. It makes her look strong and like she'll give you a good fight, where her fiend for Halloween costume is the opposite, and just seems like it was made solely for sexiness alone.

I was too lazy to actually give costume examples as I mainly just added characters who would be badass even if they wore next to nothing. I'll get on that later.

I regard Ayane as more badass mainly due to the fact that she's appeared in more games outside of DOA (remember; she even appeared in a survival-horror game after all) and has therefore had way more opportunities to kick ass. Kasumi, by comparison, is always shown to be very reluctant in fighting (as shown in her entrance poses). To be fair though, I do believe the games have consistently shown Kasumi as always beating her sister when they fight so she's probably the better fighter.

As for Rachel; I agree that it does somewhat demonstrate her strength (a woman who wears something like that while fighting giant monsters HAS to be tough) but its very clear that it was mainly designed to show off her body.

In my opinion any women in DOA wearing a bikini is by default bad ass, I mean lets face it, if you are going into a fighting tournament wearing nothing but a string bikini you must really know wtf you are doing :D

TN probably can use that as a justification for constantly releasing bikini dlcs saying they're depicting the girls as badass BECAUSE they're wearing really skimpy outfits that can come off at any moment and don't care...

You can say the same for Tyris Flare and any Barbarian Female with that type of logic.
Honestly Rachel can be seen as masculine for wearing that type of outfit and not caring because that's honestly how it works.

It works the same way here too.

On Rachel...her default dominatrix leathers? No. That's blatantly purely for fan service and doesn't make her look badass at all, especially since it looks both incredibly uncomfortable as well as highly impractical. Its part of why I always found her character so silly.

Her purple demon spikes thing could be argued as badass, in a golden axe/dragons crown warrior kinda way though, despite being more revealing.

Like just showing skin doesn't mean you can't be badass. I've always loved the Conan barbarian style, which factors into my love for midriffs. The catch is the outfit still needs to look appropriate and practical, not just sexy for the sake of sexy.

On Mila, its the difference between her awful pink string bikini, and the far cooler volleyball shirt with bikini bottoms. The former just looks stupid since its just sexy for no real rhyme or reason, while the latter is both sexy and far more appropriate for physical activity.

On the golden axe characters, its not so much a double standard so much as the fact that straight men find pretty girls attractive lol. They are both dressed barbarian style.

As for badass....ayane can pull most outfits off, with the notable exception of modern casual outfits. She can do skimpy armor, ninja outfits, etc etc, but she looks downright silly in that white beanie outfit from story mode, precisely because she's a highly dangerous assassin from a secluded ninja village, not a regular teenage girl.

Preference Argentus, you are beginning to speak for everyone again...

You know you would use the same thing for her Half-Fiend form and you know it. Her main outfit is pretty much on the same level as Tyris's outfit and she carries herself in an explicit non-fanservice level way pretty much in all of the games. You need to know the differences between intent of the character and intent of the author. The author can make all the fanservice shots of the characters all they want, but if the female character is pretty masculine, it doesn't matter how much fanservice she shows, she's not explicitly being a fetish character herself.

...How the hell does that even work!? How you seen Conan in all of his works? He's basically completely based on the Celtics who mainly run into battle COMPLETELY NAKED for damn near both sexes. And Conan for sure never wears anything practical past maybe a shield, real shield or human shield otherwise.

You could have used her MMA outfit...but atleast you know that's cheating.

Which falls into my point in the fact that it is a double standard because then you would have people saying that the outfit was made for pure titillation and not to show the female being a badass like the male.

Do you....just not think, at all, before you respond?

I explicitly said "its part of why I always found her character so silly". How in the hell is that "speaking for everyone"?!

Use the same what thing for what half fiend form?! No her main outfit is NOT on the same level as the golden axe girl. The golden axe girl is just wearing a standard barbarian bikini. Rachel's default is impossibly tight leathers including various straps, high heels, tons of belts, eliciting an intentional dominatrix feeling, the same as Christies Dom leathers. Its inherently sexual. The golden axes outfit, on the other hand, is not. And there's virtually NOTHING masculine about Rachel at all. She dresses like a Dom, wears heavy makeup with an overly elaborate hairstyle, walks in an intentionally feminine manner with her hand on her hip, dresses as a bad girl pinup model and has an intentionally domme attack.

On to Conan. That's the point. They wear just enough to cover and protect the vulnerable parts, leaving rest open for mobility and breathing. You don't have to wear heavy armor to be practical, you can just cover what you need. There's a big difference between unsexualized nudity and sexualized clothing. Same in that there's a difference between a basic loincloth and a codpiece. Plus Conan doesn't look like he just waxes and manscaped to look better going naked XD

Why would I mention her mma outfit? There's literally nothing sexy about it, unless just seeing bare arms and stomach gets you off. I'm comparing swimsuits anyway.

And the last part. Um no. You missed the point. As usual. I'm just pointing out boys are more likely to do pretty art of the girl. It really has nothing to do with the outfit at all.

I had a brief dream about the Valentine's Day DLC. I can't remember the outfit of whichever character it was, but chances are it's better than what Team Ninja will actually design (being partial serious to be honest)

I'm just glad the Virtua Fighters are getting new outfits. I always imagined, if it had to be DLC where some characters get sexy outfits or not so sexy like Hitomi wearing a long too large t shirt or Tina wearing a sexy langerea (can't spell correctly) outfit, I would call it, Naughty Night and Good Morning Pack.
