I'm honestly getting tired of dealing with people's opinions on DOA

oh, so the doa subreddit is on THAT side of the coin. like a more brain damaged twitter/gamefaqs

The doa subreddit is easily worse than gamefaqs/twitter.

I don't think it's exactly madness to want to expand your audience. The FGC isn't very big, and won't grow unless there's a reason for new people to play those games. I'm an old-school Virtua Fighter nerd, I love ultra-complex fighter mechanics, but I also like to have people to play with. There's no downside to DOA6 being more beginner-friendly than previous iterations. A game's depth and accessibility are two separate things.

Eh, I can only base it off the beta, but the game wont be as beginner friendly as people think. The new mechanics certainly feel like they are there for beginners, but the amount of setups you can be thrown into that are inescapable are significantly higher than previous doa games. Managing meter is going to be important, and missing that BH is going to be incredibly punishing.

Regardless of how deep the S mechanics have made DOA, there really is something to be said about having a single button to do combos that new people find a lot less intimidating. I had a few non-fighting gamer friends over when the beta was going on and they were actually interested in playing the game, something they’ve never done before with any other fighting game I’ve shown them.

this sounds nice and everything, but i don't look forward to listening to itagaki cocksleeves' endless bitching about guaranteed damage again. if you aren't yet tired of the "DOA holds are evil" crowd here's an even more mentally challenged counterforce to it

The DoA Extreme crowd sound the same as Soul Calibur's Create a Soul crowd, go to any big social media platform and its going to be full of people trying to role play with their lizard futas OCs and crying about Nightmare.

Again, have you played fighting games? You do realize DBFZ also has the same one button combo link for their Lows(free Auto Combo + Super), Mid and High right? Same with KOF XIV and I know there was like 2-3 other games now too.

There's a difference between having "simple combat" and the game being "super simple".

Fatal Rush is just a combo to play around with in Arcade... before doing that alone gives you nowhere near the damage of a full on combo and get your shit pushed in hard online.
And honestly, it seems more like DBFZ where you can use some hits of the FR to further your combo along.

Yeah, and some people find smaller movelists with less inputs to learn less intimidating, as well. But I'm not about to support a feature just because some people find it less intimidating. I'm going to look at it's overall impact. And with those concerns in mind, I think the Special button was a dumb idea.

I had my speculations until I played the game myself and enjoyed using the special button.

Yeah, I've played fighting games for 25 years, and I'm saying DOA6 is the first time I've gotten my non-fighting game friends to play a fighter besides Smash Bros, I don't know what else to tell you.

You're talking like new players will never move beyond Fatal Rush because it's not going to be competitive online, when new players don't give a crap about playing online competitively, they want to just figure out how the game works. Yes, it does very little damage, but that's not the point, managing a basic resource that you know you're supposed to build up to do a "big move" with basically one button is, from many hands-on reports, an accessible entry point for new players. We won't know how all the S button stuff will pan out for proper/higher level play until the game actually drops, but there's significant evidence that it's done its job with getting newbies an accessible way to start playing and learning.

Ha! The only way I got to play VF consistently, played VF4EVo and 5R was because I decided to step up to the guys streaming and playing. I was the only person that had did that. They said I got good faster than most of them even thought. I love the fuck outta VF and DoA because without those 2 games, I would have never gotten to experience fun and traveling that I wouldn't otherwise be doing. I'm glad DOA6 is rekindling that fire despite it never really leaving my heart.
Off topic, but bro that profile pic. Oni was my jam. I really wanted a part 2 to that for the longest time. Alright, back on topic

I'm glad I'm not the only one who grew up with it. Harder than Souls ever wishes to be. They made a part 2 but scrapped it midway through. There's still files for it. Was being made by a company that wasn't Bungie.

This is interesting and what did they think of DOA6?
They liked the look of the game and the characters’ personalities the most. I had one friend say how she liked that “nothing was confusing,” in that there wasn’t a bunch of flashes or magic sparks on the screen like Soul Calibur and games like that.

Nobody was good at it, but they really liked the offensive holds and the general idea of a “counter button,” because it felt like something out of a kung fu movie. Because it was the beta they asked if every character was a ninja, so I pulled up DOA5 and showed the other characters.

Overall consensus was that the game looked exciting but also easy to follow. Nobody even made boob jokes.

Or show any care about the male fighters bc if you do they go all “REEEEE THIS IS A GAEM ABOUT HOT CHICKS FIGHTING!!!!!!! GO BACK TO YUOR TEKKEN OR STREET FIGHTER REEEEEEE!!!”
All facts. I remember I brought up the men need bulge for fan service and half of the community said it was too much. I’m like how can they say that, when certain female characters (cough Lisa) is wearing a diamond sting swimsuit. Yeah.. that isn’t too much.

I know you don't like particle effects, but you have to admit that there's a massive difference between Hayabusa having some fire in his hands for certain moves and the blinding lightshow of Soul Calibur or the endless sparks that fly everywhere when you do literally anything in Tekken.
And Tekkens customization makes it optional to have even brighter sparks and flashes. And I’m like, ok but why tho, lol

I counter you with a Nico.

At least where SC is concerned. I don't play Tekken. Too ugly across the board.

That’s not much of a counter. Like, she has lightning moves, but they’re very subdued, especially compared to literally any other fighting game. Her abilities are no less fancy than Honoka’s red energy, Phase’s vapor stuff, or Kasumi’s little flower effects. DOA’s always been pretty consistent aesthetically.

My point is that the existence of particle effects or whatever isn’t inherently good or bad, it’s when it’s overused and hides the gameplay that it’s bad for a fighter.

"Subdued?" No.

Not to mention that it's especially jarring when juxtaposed with all the normal characters.
