On the official section of the DOA5 Festival ( http://teamninja-studio.com/doa5/lastround/us/doa_festival.html ) appeared these infos about the Marie Rose's outfit
  • A special collaboration costume for Marie Rose OR ALIVE FESTIVAL
  • The costume for Marie Rose is for use with DEAD OR ALIVE 5 Last Round for the PlayStation®4 system.
So apparently seems that this will be a situation similar to Kasumi's Ragnarok Outfit, outcome of a collaboration between DoA and an external series exclusive to PS4 released before only on the Sony consoles and later for Xbox too (even if with a different nomenclature).

By the way I can't just say Marie Rose's outfit which series is related...

If you want to use that logic from the above, in actuality Honoka and Marie would fit right in with DOA(You state that they are existing copies of Anime characters...but all the DOA characters are basically Anime characters, right down to their core and the sheer ridiculousness of what they can do...just like any other Japanese Fighting Games). And to be frank, I feel Lei-Fang and Hitomi are far more bubbly than they are at this rate, honestly still out "kawaii-ing them" in the scenes they share and their tag interactions.
No even close. There's a huge gap between "Basically anime characters" and "Straight copy of an existing anime character".

It's the same reason Angol Fear looked so out of place in Soul Calibur IV. Everyone in the series is pretty stylized, but she was just a palette swap of Angol Mois from Sgt Frog.

Yes with DOA5 the characters are more anime than ever despite the realistic character models, but Honoka and Marie are just jumping off the deep end.

Hitomi and Leifang may be more bubbly, but Honoka IS just Honoka from Love Life or whatever, but with giant tits slapped on. Marie Rose is every stereotypical pigtailed loli ever, to the point that when I see art of her, I have no idea that it's supposed to be Marie from DOA unless I'm specifically told, because I just see "Generic loli".

Whereas, with the arguable exception of Tina, everyone in DOA is very distinctive and recognizable in their own right. (I say Tina because unless they put her in her iconic silver and black wrestling outfit I never know its supposed to be her, just seeing a blonde). Even the bruce lee clone is immediately recognizable from other bruce lee clones, largely due to not having the standard "bowl cut" hairstyle they all do.

Minus the "no brutal" stuff, that would be awesome
I agree lol.

Good news is that (maybe) with the presence of Marie and Honoka, maybe TN will try to make Lei Fang and Hitomi more like the way they used to be (respectively DOA2 "Kung Fu Genius" Lei Fang and DOA3 "one-punch-and-you're-down" Hitomi).
Doubtful, but I wish. Leifang's primary trait used to be her extreme arrogance, while Hitomi was well...what Mila is now. Mila took Hitomi's old personality, so I'm not entirely sure if going back with Hitomi would be a good thing anymore.

Then again, I wish they'd revert like, the entire cast to their preDOA4 characterizations.

I would like that as well :)

At least he got a long coat with the Marauder outfit, so in the meantime, I'm happy with that.

back on topic...are there no more DLC costumes for a while or what?

And could someone Tweed TN and ask if they'll be/could please put up the submissions somewhere for everyone to see?

Which is kinda the point for the latter considering multiple Japanese artists designed their own creations for SC4...you can't expect ALL of them to fit the style of SC series as a whole.

And a huge gap? Are we playing the same game in which DOA4 pretty much gave us Kasumi's and Hitomi's endings? Or the typical stereotypes you see in Anime these days? Did we play DOA4? Because I definitely did and that anime influence that was already there exploded at DOA4.

Yes with DOA5 the characters are more anime than ever despite the realistic character models, but Honoka and Marie are just jumping off the deep end.
Dude you play Mila...you honestly think despite being trained in MMA hand to hand combat, she would have a body that she does and want to be taken seriously? Even "realistically", the females AND males have body types that make the stuff they can do impossible(word to the wise, Bass the ONLY closest person to having a realistic bodysize for what he does)

And you don't think anyone can see that type of thing with any other female or male in this game?
Mila is the "Tomboy", Kasumi is the "martial pacifist dandelion", Ayane is the "brooding bitch", Hayabusa is the "silent badass".
You walked into that one.

So what? How does that help your point that holy shit, there maybe some fighters who bare resemblances to others...it's like it's never been done before...

You are right, they must be completely generic people instead of just being homages. Now I'm done with this conversation because I don't want Brute killing me nor this thread.

Yes, multiple japanese artists designs characters for SCIV. An elven version of Scherazade, Kamikirimusi (My favorite SC charcter), the whore with the swords, the clockwork girl (who's canon by the way), etc. Except THAT artist, who was just lazy and reused a character from his manga/anime.

Again. Big difference between "kind of anime" and 'Straight copy of existing character." Yes DOA4's endings were so kawaii, but they were still DOA. Honoka isn't even a DOA character, she's from Love Life. They just slapped giant tits on her.

Huge gap there.

On the realistic character models, its mostly just the face and hair, and more detailed texturing.

Yes, "Mila is the "Tomboy", Kasumi is the "martial pacifist dandelion", Ayane is the "brooding bitch", Hayabusa is the "silent badass"." But you know what the big difference is? You can still instantly recognize them. Everyone can recognize the MMA girl wearing Victoria, Sweetest Sting gear, with two tone black and red hair. We all instantly recognize that as Mila from DOA. Everyone instantly recognizes Kasumi, with her distince red ponytail and blue outfit. Everyone instantly recognizes Ayane, with her distinctive, hair, bandana, and red eyes. Everyone instantly recognizes Hayabusa.

Marie rose is COMPLETELY indistinguishable from other lolis. Which is intentional on TNs' part because that's what japan likes. Can't even tell it's supposed to be her when I see art.

Fitting an archetype isn't the same as being a generic stock design.

On Juri and Jolyne, AGAIN, there's a big difference between simply resembling another character, or paying homage, or being inspired by another character and BEING A STRAIGHT COPY OF THEM.

For example, Jann Lee? Notice how he's not just called Bruce Lee with Bruces exact physical appearance.
Juri? Notice how he's not actually named Jolyne with the exact same appearance. Just obvious element inspirations like the clothes and hairstyle.
Bass? Obviously another Hulk Hogan inspired design, but he's not straight up Hulk Hogan, complete with the same name.

Honoka, though? EXACT COPY of Honoka from Love Life or whatever its called, just with giant tits.

You're digging yourself in a hole here.

Well I'm not even trying to convince you and I honestly don't see no point since you and a few others have been set on this so we are just wasting time and getting close to a thread lock so I'm done here until we get some actual news.

I'm sure everyone can agree that Honoka and Marie Rose have pretty uninspired designs, judging from their concept art they could have taken so many directions but they took the easy money route.

First time I saw Marie Rose in magazine scan, I was like wtf and all I had in my brain was a loli in perv manga my co-worker used to like.

First time I saw Honoka in magazine scan, all I had in mind was her face looking so familiar with H-Game Real Kanojo / Sexy Beach characters.

=(

Btw what's next though? Last DLC was like announced 3 days before release date

No, I don't think "everyone can agree" on that. Nice try though.

Anyone that watches anime realizes that all fighting games are anime-ish. The degree merely varies.
My point was that the designs are intentionally generic for the sake of pleasing Japanese consumers. It's a solid marketing scheme, just not very creative. Personally I like Honoka and Marie Rose in DOA they fit perfectly fine I just wish TN took a different approach with the designs.
