They really don't have much "personality" yet. All we've seen are some superficial lines and gestures. You'll have to wait for DOA 6 for that. Not that it matters that much anyways for a fighting game.

I'm sorry but I will disagree forever on this point XD I'm convinced that if you get favourite characters in a fighting game you can't do it always because how they play, but partially even because you like their personality: the balance changes according to how much you are playing competitevely or less, but for me both the factors are always present in some degre. It's for this reason that i think that story modes where to see the character interact with each other are a fundamental part for such games, indipendently from the plot in itself.

True. I want to know if Marie Rose really is loyal to Helena, or if it's just a guise. Also, I know tag poses don't really mean much, but what about the connection between Eliot and Marie Rose? Hope they expand on that. Also, it'll be interesting to see Nyotengu chasing after Hayabusa. As for Phase-4, eh...Idk how they'll weave her into the future plot. Same with Raidou, who probably will become the new final boss.

I'll only take character personalities and story plot as serious as the developers are and for now at least both of them have been put on the back burner. We will have a total of 10 characters once LR comes out who have no substantial story in 5 (and if you want to get even more technical the 3 VF characters added to vanilla really have no relevance to the plot at all). TN is adding/creating the fighters and focusing on getting the gameplay aspect down which I'm okay with.

Reading your answer I'm not sure if you misunderstood me: I wasn't disagreeing with you stating that the new characters of Doa5U are in shadow compared to the others: of course, we can just imagine their attitudes from their few lines and poses available in the game - and even if I would like to see them already involved in the story, like you I'm anyway ok with waiting for it. My focus was just with your statement that the personality in general it's not important (if this is what you meant): I could be wrong but I suppose that you like Eliot even for reasons that go outside his fighting style or gameplay characteristics, my point was just this one.

Out of the new characters introduced in DOA5UA, Marie Rose and Nyotengu have the most entertaining personality. Marie Rose is aware of her cuteness and doesn't hide it. Nyotengu is just arrogant and brash, but I like it. This new girl in DOA5LR has to bring it, especially since TN is hyping her up with a release date.

err right, im just going to leave this here

No sorry you understood me correctly I really did say that. XD And you're right, part of the reason why I wanted to use Eliot in 4 was because I liked his apprentice story. It doesn't matter so much to me now (nor does it matter for my other main Hitomi who's personality I've grown to dislike yet I will continue to play b/c I like her fighting style). It's true the story can provide the entertainment value and can make the characters more relatable but I guess I've changed my outlook on what are important factors for me when picking up a fighter. XD

With his statement on the cuteness I believe that Jyakotu was talking about the lose pose of Marie Rose, where evidently she is trying to get attention/pity from the opponent with a fake cry. However her other lines doesn't indicate this side of the character, and on the opposite in some circumstances she is openly teasing the opponent (her opening "Oh dear" or the taunt "Baka"). So this particular "seduction" of the opponent seems to me more a "last resource" thing XD

Well, like I stated I'm not saying that people play a character only for their personality, just that this is more or less part of that formula: I'm not sure if really everyone would be able to play with a character only for the fighting style. However your reasoning seems to me pretty logical, for me it's more likely that this is something that enters in play when playing a series/picking a character for the first time (even because you could decide to learn him even for this reason) and then with the passing of the time and knowledge of the gameplay become more secondary (at that point become even a matter of passion for the moveset so well known and the wish to overcome the oppoenent with such moves that are always been part of the character's identity; it's not a case that the players are often glad even for nostalgic reasons to see back some moves previously disappeared from their character's arsenal).

repeatability yelling "Baka" is what anime girls do when they want to be seen as cute. it is a seduction thing for the players as anime fans typically go nuts over that type of stuff. 5 bucks "Onichan" will be used as well.

What you say is right but you are getting the expression out from the context.

I'm aware me too how "baka" can be used for appearing cute in a tsundere way in the anime fiction ("onichan" too, even if in a different way), but Marie Rose is literally yelling "BAKA!" our of her from the frustration. I can easily see her to do a such taunt for expressing her disappointment in a childish way after being declared the loser of a match, but surely not for appearing nice to the opponent :p

If then you are talking about a context outside the reality in-game, I agree that all the character of Marie Rose is made for appearing cute to the players, but in the game reality she seems to me very few cute toward her opponent - and by the way this is in agreement with what her profile hinted.

:marierose:"Eliot onii-chan, buy me chocolate! Onegaaiiii! >o<"

I'm callin' it.

XD

I don't know, maybe I could have got a completely different picture of the character but for me Marie Rose appear more the classic sister of an aristocratic character (her relationship with Helena could be treated very easily in a such way, even with the two not being effectively related), so someone that look down almost everyone (of course in depth being actually a good person), and not exactly someone that try to appear close to everyone with subtle tactics: it's a typical clichè from fictions but sadly I don't know a proper term for indicating it (be sure that there is XD).

For trying to make a concrete example, if someone know the work Princess Resurrection (aka Monster Princess aka Kaibutsu Oujo) I'm imagining Marie Rose acting similarly to the little Sherwood, maybe only losing her temper more often/easily.

PR wiki:
Sherwood is VERY smart for a nine year old girl, and just like the rest of her family, she is very cunning. She has a fairly calm nature, but not as much as her older sister, Hime. She enjoys getting what she wants, but she doesn't throw tantrums when she doesn't. She also possesses a very strong curiosity, leading her own expeditions to find unknown creatures and putting herself in danger a number of times.

also no aristocratic girl acts that way, especially if they're "totally 18" MR is just otaku bait

I know the character and the work and so I know very well that some attitudes of MR would appear completely out of character for Sherwood (just how losing the temper), indeed I talked of acting similarly and overall for the part about being "malicious" and not trying to look for the sympathy of others with a look down behaviour. If there is a character that has really a mistress/aristocratic attitude in DoA - less than in DoA5 is always nice with everyone - this is only Helena; I used for Marie Rose the "little sister of the mistress" stereotype just because usually gifted of less elegance in her portayal cause the young age. Marie Rose has some traits from classic "spoiled brat" but other ways to do resemble me an 'aristocratic* kind, from the calm way to talk in her openings or 'piece of cake' ending (something very far from what you would expect from her appearence), to her poses in the tag opening with Helena and to some extent with 'Oh dear'. When you know that she is the servant for a such woman doesn't seems to me too much farfetched to think that she can share some traits living in the same setting, even if in a minor way and with a disgraceful contrast with other childish attitudes just for emphatizing a comical relief.

For me TN want follow a such middle way for MR's personality, even if I'm afraid that with the time she could end to lose such -eventual- 'arisocratic' ways in favor of the more popular childish ones because generally seen more cute.

Marie Rose is 18 only at the register office XD, it's clear how she is portayed in the game with a different age. When I talk about her I consider this aspect always implicit, and this is the reason because I was comparing MR with a character visibly younger than a 18 years old.

*Note: Aristocratic is not the word that I have in mind, but in this moment I can't find a better one in English

Yep. Its why I would keep maining Mila even when they modify her move set, and why I want Nicole back even though Rachel inherited a couple of her animations. Characterization matters a lot.

I would like a Nicole archetype, but we can't have her, cause you know.... She's a spartan. A Spartan on PS3? Never. If she was to be similar, on the other hand, it'd be fine.

(Still, I'd rather give Nicole's moves to Rachel. Because I like her more. My opinion.)

Don't make me break out the logic on your ass.

Replace "spartan" with "mist".

Nicole is a MIST super soldier. BAM MOTHERFUCKER >:D

Just ditch the actual armor (or modify it so heavily its not the halo armor anymore). Cyborg her up like Genra.
