Competitive balance: DOA5U mechanics changes

You know what would be great, if wake up kicks didn't do any damage. Keep the invincibility so they still do what they are meant to do and still make them +9 on NH.

There are occasionally those situations where you knock the opponent down and you can't get out of the way in time and you get clipped by the wake up kick and lose the match because of it. Or when you knock someone down the stairs and you automatically jump into a corner! If you have no health left you are fucked 50% of the time.

That situation is such BS. Keep the invincibility, keep the slight frame advantage, lose the damage.

That's be quite silly.

Making them slower, mid one being unsafe too and not push back and reducing the damage is enough... maybe no tracking too. They need to be heavily nerfed, it's the only thing that does but 0 damage is stupid. It's a kick after all.

I think at this point we should all sit and wait for the game to come out. I'm pretty sure we're not gonna have day1 or week1 tourneys or events for this game like last time, so we'll have time to just sit down and just go through the whole game.

We have no say in what happens to the game anyway. The Japanese are play testing the game and we haven't even been told what they have done with the game let alone had any real time to play it for ourselves, with the exception of those who were at E3.

TN isn't interested in our opinions so this entire thread is pretty pointless. If they cared what we thought they would have enquired after our input by now. 2 months till the games release and still we know pretty much nothing.

My guess is everyone is posting here for the same reason I am and that's just because it's interesting to know other peoples opinions on our views. I don't think anybody honestly expects TN to pay attention to anything that is wrote here.

Sadly, OE is right. TN doesn't seem to give two flying fucks about the West for this release. All evidence points towards that being the case.

You may think that the western players don't have a say, but the same people in this thread who are assuring you about the game and are making positive comments are also in touch with the Japanese players and the developers.

So yes, people are being heard, but a select few old school experienced players and sensible community managers who are the one gathering all of these opinions and forwarding them.

Also, I've been hearing good news in the last few days, which is very promising.

Then how about instead of being all cloak and dagger about everything they give us legit breakdowns of the gameplay changes and encourage TN to get their act together and allow Western players to get CE stuff?

Probably because Western players rage over EVERYTHING. Easier to just let em know at launch than deal with a shitstorm before they've even made any money.

Wait, so the Japanese are play testing the game, TN hasn't asked us about what we want in the game and won't tell us about all the new mechanics that have been put in the beta version of the game, which the Japanese are playing right now, and the only info we are getting is what a couple of Japanese players are feeding us via Twitter?

That doesn't sound like TN is interested in what we think at all.

It would obviously cost them a lot of money to ship dev kits, get all the legal stuff sorted and rent venues to test out the game in the US or anywhere outside Japan. I really don't blame. I was part of one project where testing was the most difficult part of the process and drained a lot of our monetary resources.

In regards to not revealing anything, I don't know. It's their choice and I don't really think it's that great as much the next person, but I can live with it.

Seriously, just wait and see what happens.

would you mind giving some details?

Ground game is similar to DOA2/3 which is honestly my preferred ground game in the series, but that may just be my bias for that ground game because I play Bass. General character viability and decent balancing for most characters to fit nicely into this new system. The game is very much solid and it's under constant testing. The team is not spearheaded by an eccentric rock 'n roll star wannabe either, so no sudden changes happening.

Obviously, I got no footage to prove it, but the people I've heard these from are very trusted.

So I take it that grapplers still get guaranteed ground grabs after ground slams, since you play Bass and like the new ground game? Bayman can't lose his 3K-ground grab juggles.

I'm pretty sure Bayman's 3K already causes hard-knockdown anyway, so there's no reason to worry. The changes in the system are being done with the whole cast in mind and everyone is tested individually, that's why QA testing is taking long.

If you take some time and think about it, you'd find that you are mostly worrying about nothing really, because TN may have already either thought of the issues or have faced and addressed them during testing.

I guess the slams are still going to be in the game, but not the forced tech? I'm confused...

Force techs aren't necessary. They weren't in 3.1, the game itself just needs to be solid enough that they aren't needed.

With more options against wake up kicks and better overall tools in the neutral game (like frame advantage...) there won't be such a need for it in order to keep additional pressure because it won't be 80% of the roster's only real way to do it.
