For the record, this entire status is opinionated. Furthermore, you can't really say something is random then or imply few people take it seriously when you've not had opportunity to see things in a wider perspective. Your opinions are purely based off online play.
You have to factor in the stagger system, slow escaping, a 4 point hold system, 4-5 frame throws, and probably one of the most crush heavy games on the market. Basically every move you make must be done on read, which is true of all fighters, but in DOA it even bleeds into the combo system when you land a hit.
That's basically saying SSF4 is random because of a Focus Attack system, lol. Every game has a triangle system, DOA's stun threshold is just unique and it works. You say it's random because you're randomly guessing with holds.
When you get hit, it's an opportunity to learn an opponent's strike sequence and pattern(s). You are not going to hold everything or escape everything. When you get hit in a fighter, its supposed to give you information about how they play.
You're sounding a lot like someone who tries to hold something as soon as they're put in threshold. Understandably, every has done it. However if that's what you're always doing, then yeah, it'll be random for you because you aren't adapting to anything.
I don't "randomly guess with holds." The actual amount that I find myself holding is lacking because I generally find it too difficult to do online unless it's on a read. And the SF4 comparison is a pretty bad example.
And getting hit in a fighter isn't what shows you how someone plays.... it's what gives you a reward for making the correct read in the footsie game. The footsie game is what gives you information how how a person plays.
You have to know the characters strikes, strings, frame data, and their options. If you don't know that stuff, then yeah, it's going to be random because you have no information on who or what you're fighting. And that goes with any fighting game.
No, the SSF4 is a good example, you just didn't get it lol. You gain information on an opponent in more ways than just footsies, man. You don't learn an opponents tendencies from footsies alone. Most playing this game don't even have good footsies to begin with.
I'm always down to play, and I'm fine with admitting that I honestly don't play enough to "see" (for lack of a better term) moves like I should. This status was majorly salt-based due to the assholes I ran into online that night, but the sheer amount of those types of players I run into online kills the game to an extent for me.
Yeah, you're not telling me anything new, as I've experienced the same thing. Most of those assholes are even here at FSD. That aspect does ruin the play experience for those trying to enjoy the game. It's usually best to play people you know, or ask around.
