TFW a fan edit completely blows your shitty art out of the water. Like seriously its hideous so props to who ever made the edit they should have hired them.

I do hope that enough people are complaining about the really poor SFV artwork, so they might change/edit it afterwards. After all Capcom itself knows very well that these illustrations are just a quick fill-in for the upcoming actual story mode with in-game cutscenes in a couple of months. Street Fighter V is supposed to last for several years, being updated all the time, so there should be no problem updating this mess at some point too.

Fortunately there are many already complaining on Neogaf and Facebook as I noticed. As an artist myself I kinda feel personally insulted by low quality art like that in a high profile video game that I am paying a lot of money for. XD

Ff13 really is beautiful. Its just so vibrant and full of life. I'm playing through Lightning Returns and at least right now its very grey. I'm guessing these are your pictures?

FFXIII is one of the best looking games on the PS3/360, but character models took a hit. Look at Lightning compared to how she's supposed to look like haha or even her Lightning Returns model.

It probably looks better on pc with mods though.

Unfortunately it was all graphics, no gameplay.
Honestly the off series would be better as movies than games imho[/USER]

Oooh, don't say that too loud in the Final Fantasy-thread. Lotsa FFXIII fanboys concentrated in there to my surprise. XD

It probably looks better on pc with mods though.

It's the PC version. ;) The PS3 (and even less so the Xbox360 version) was never that crisp and that high resolution.

Ryu of the Street Fighter series is undoubtably one of the most famous and recognizable characters in video gaming. We've seen him in a lot of different styles and in a lot of different games. Today I wanted to especially focus on the 3D versions of his character in a selection of games:

Ryu in Street Fighter IV:

A pretty painterly style, even impressionist regarding the strong strokes of his skin textures. Ryu seems very bulky, crude and even caveman-ish. Imho a very unappealing depiction of him.

Ryu in Street Fighter x Tekken:

Very similar to the art style of SF4. Still painterly but with a lot more contrast, thus appearing more comic-like. The base character model seems the exact same as in SF4 but it appears even cruder because of the stark contrast.

Ryu in Marvel vs Capcom 3:

Very comic-like in look with thick, black outlines, cel-shading and less overall detailing. His facial- and body features are a lot less crude and bulky than in SF4. He also looks a lot less angry.

Ryu in Smash Bros WiiU:

Stilistically toned down a lot to match the smooth and family friendly Smash Bros aesthetic. His facial- and body features seem a lot more appealing.

Ryu in Street Fighter 5:

Alternate costumes:

SFV-Classic-Ryu.jpg

A stylistic mixture of Street Fighter 4 and Smash Bros. Still kinda painterly but also pretty soft and smooth... The bulkyness returned but because of the less stark contrasts and softer, more detailed facial features and body features Ryu looks a lot more appealing than his SF4 counterpart.

Last but not least here's a glimpse of what Ryu migth look like in the upcoming Tekken x Street Fighter:

tekken-x-SFCompare.jpg

Ryu is depicted in the typical Tekken Tag Tournament 2/Tekken 7 style. It goes with a lot more detailed and realistic art direction. In my opinion this is Ryu's most appealing 3D depiction yet and I can't wait to see him in action in this game.
I do understand though why Capcom appears more in favor with the more exaggerated, comic-like depictions of Ryu. They feel a lot closer to the original 2D sprites. Capcom probably wants to honor this tradition.

What do you guys think? :)

This is cool like a timeline of the character. Maybe you should do this with other famous characters through time. But on Ryu and I guess all SF characters I'm just happy they toned it down from SF4 because I couldn't stand that games art style. And yeah I want to see something from Tekken X Street Fighter.

If I find the time, I definitely will. But only if people other than you and me are really interested in it. ;)

Let me add a good comparison of Street Fighter 5 and Street Fighter 4 Ryu that I just put together:

Ryu_Comparison.jpg

The facial changes are very interesting and make quite an impact. SF5 Ryu looks a lot more appealing even though his features are still very rugged. Here are some differences (apart of the different lighting) that I noticed:
SF5 Ryu's eyes and eyebrows are bigger and less angled, his nose is also bigger and longer, his mouth is smaller and less strongly curved, his ears are smaller, his hair has a lot more volume and his jaw line is more prominent.

I like how the Tekken fighters looked in SF, especially Lili. She looked hella thick, and her hairstyle closely resembled her CG, where there were two long side locks on her chest. And her dress hem actually flowed unlike Tekken.

Those SFxT screenshots look like they could be right out of the Jojo's Bizarre Adventure game

I took a closer look at Street Fighter x Tekken and I have to say the art style does have something... Here's some cutsecenes in some of the alternative costumes:

I kinda like how outlandish and over the top everything looks and the vibrant colors and metallic look of the textures looks special. I wished the characters weren't so incredibly ugly though (at least the Street Fighter ones). As I said before, they look like cavemen or gorillas or some sort of ghouls to me. What were they thinking at Capcom, honestly? You know, it's not easy to create a really beautiful character. I however also think, it must not have been easy to design such ugly characters. It must've taken some effort. That I truly believe. XD

Lili's outfit in that is showing so much skin she might as well just be top less. She also doesn't seem to have nipples but what woman in video games does?!

Why does every character in Street Fighter look like they fell out of the ugly tree and hit every branch on the way down? They managed to make Lili ugly so there really is no limit.
