The latter. Some people have managed to fix this. How so?

I'm not sure about a modern method for PC, but former methods involved either A) manually adjusting the mesh so that the neck matches the head of the target character and re-injecting it or B ) Adjusting the bone offsets so that the skeleton matches the target character.

I have not seen utilities pop up yet for those methods. Any area in particular where people are posting pictures with those resolved?

If ypu talking about the skin in the neck and the body, change with Texture Tool the texture of the body with the character that you wanna swap

@UpSideDownGRUNT Wait for looking of what I'm the author, I'm talking of the most crazy mod ever done for DoA... a clothed one! And not a wathever clothed mod but... a "Buttoned Ein"!!

... I think to have just created a paradox

Jokes aside I just made what @Jack asked, Ein on Jann Lee's third outfit. I only put the outfit of the latter on the body (or better head) of the first, nothing more and nothing less, so of course there are the already overmentioned problems of the neck appearing separated from the head. I hope that for the moment you can be satisfied with it, waiting for something definitely better on the character from people more competent.

This adds an extra slot under the vestiary of Ein with this outfit: it's not a simple skin mod, so If you don't know how to use PM me. Also I use a not steam copy for these experimentations - I own the original game on Steam and this is just the reason because I decided to get that second version, so to not be banned or similar from the use of modified files (I don't care if in the end I will not able to play with them online) - so I'm not sure how and if the "extra DLC Mods" can be used with an ordinary copy of the game.

@mralex swapping the body textures of the character is needed for using a body with the same color skin of his head, but this doesn't prevent the problem of the head separated from the body, I experimented personally it. Look the comparison, the first picture is from Ein in Jann Lee's body skin, the second is from Ein in his own body skin: the outcome is the same.

That didn't used to be enough. There was still a lingering seam from the surface material differences on the console. It's more subtle, but still a seam unless something changed with PC.

Also, changing the texture won't fix the gap in the neck if someone uses a different body style.
