Team NINJA wants tweets for patch suggestions

I'm sure all of you have heard by now, but some may not.

Yohei Shimbori recently tweeted that the team is looking to the fanbase to see what they would like to have patched in Dead or Alive 5. The following is the official translation tweets from Ninja Gaijin.

[D-YS] As I mentioned last week, I'd like to explain the direction for balancing things moving forward. Please keep in mind that we're still considering what exactly to update, but this should give you an idea how we're thinking.

Direction 1: As a rule, we are not going to do anything that makes all of your practice up to now pointless. We will only tweak things we feel are absolutely necessary.

Direction 2: We will balance aspects we feel are not fair. Moves that are way too strong or which have strange motion, etc. Bug fixes are included in this consideration.

Direction 3: We will not change the concept and importance of keeping each character's individuality. Rather than kill personality to make everyone the same, we'll strengthen the weak characters to make a fair fight.

Direction 4: I will tweet questions about certain aspects to get your feedback.

We will consider your responses carefully when we make our final decisions. Please use the hashtag #DOA5_balance so we can keep track easily. So that's it! This will apply to all territories around the world, so we need to be really careful how we proceed. Also, the content and timing of the update is still being considered. We will let you know when those are set. I know a lot of people will want to deal with online issues first, so I'll touch on that a little here. We will deal with bugs as soon as we find the cause, and we definitely want to improve the overall experience. Different staff members handle bugs and balance, so we can deal with both aspects at the same time. If you don't agree with someone's opinion, talk about it! Discuss things (fight?) amongst yourselves! Use whatever language your feel comfortable in. Japanese, English, whatever! Get ready...FIGHT! (or tweet or...).

So that there is no misunderstanding, please write the reason of your suggestion about balancing (not bugs).

I hope Team Ninja doesn't listen to guys like Max Drago. His arguments are so nonsensical. For example:

"Leifang isn't broken, but she is so freaking broken. Why'd they make her so good in the first place? Because Shimbori likes her"

Maxdrago uses Twitter to vent whenever he loses. All we can really hope for is that TM ignores him.

I'm curious about something. Do you guys believe that some high crushes should be semi-nerfed. Personally I don't care much for it, but I remember that someone complained they should have hit Helena because their move came in contact with her body, but since she was doing a move that transitioned into BKO, the hitbox did not read it. Just curious as to what you guys think.

Updating the graphics would be nice because Im seening shadow twitching, choppy edges & clipping issues & since this is the year of 2012, I expect DOA5 to have less of these issues
but good grief I was wrong. :( Yes I understand that the PS3 & 360 had been around since 2005/2006 but I've seen way beetter looking games *cough* Uncharted 2 & Gears of War *cough* lol and some of the multiplatform games doesn't even have so many glitchy graphics but DOA5 still looks good though. :) For the next patch, TN should make the female characters ass big if they want to take the sex appeal to the next level LMAO! XD.

Neither of those games are running at 60fps either.

A dedicated button for rejecting an online fight after the 2 characters appear on screen is a must: I should be able to fight only those fights I realy want, but the code forces me to fight randomized people: It's like a frigging blind date -.-

I've never noticed screen tearing. Input lag is just a ps3 thing. I notice input lag on all ps3 games.
Sorry, I've should had been more clear, I meant to say some games that are running at 30fps
have screen tearing issues, not DOA5. :)

I want a larger ass patch myself, Lisa and Tina could definitely sport them cheeks like CHAMPS (especially with Tina's winpose, you see titties, but no ass!)

Funny how everyone here was asking for Helena to be buffed and on saturday Rikuto couldn't stop claiming she was broken during the Absolute battle grand finals, even when Master completely destroyed e-mann's Helena (the one that killed Rikuto and caused him to start singing "broken broken broken") and proceeded to deliver an absolute beatdown to black mamba's Helena (though he lost in the end)

The moral is: don't be too hasty with the buff/nerf suggestions! It's early days and these characters have enormous rosters. As time goes on, people will discover "broken shit", others will adapt, the game will change, and others will come up with different "broken shit".

Today's broken shit is tomorrow's bread and butter tactic. The fact that Helena's force tech situation can put an opponent into a hugely disadvantageous situation is a part of the game....in Marvel almost every viable character has a way to turn a single opening into a character death. In street fighter, vortex characters can create a debilitating offense that forces the opponent to guess.

These are the things that make a fighting game beautiful to WATCH as opposed to beautiful to PLAY. When I listen to many of the balance suggestions on here, i can see we are trying to make the game into one where every game ends with a super-close round after a lot of boring back-and-forths because everyone has so many options everywhere.

I think that will make for a great game to play in your bedroom, but nobody will be interested in watching that. Marvel and SF are so clutch BECAUSE spectators are always on the edge of their seat. They know that "once he gets him in that setup its all over!" and when he does its like "Okay now its on!" and then if he gets out of it somehow there's the "oh my God!" moment.

You witnessed this in the absolute battle Grand finals. While the commentators were being down on the GAME and ignoring the match, whining about "force tech nonsense", the audience was cheering and getting hype for DOA!!! DOA of all games! When last did you see that at a mixed tournament? Imagine if marvel streams had the commentators saying "oh man he just got him in that Zero loop nonsense. Ah this is so stupid. Ok its over. Oh, he got out? He's so lucky." as opposed to whipping up the hype the way they should?

Its all just a word of caution. I know many will pounce on me and say I "know nothing about balance" and so forth but really... I think what we should be aiming for is not a perfectly balanced (therefore boring) game, but an extremely hype game that does not degenerate into something boring like Soulcalibur hilde all day every day, tekken 6 boblaw poke fest , or MK9 kunglao pressure strings all weekend.

if it degenerates into something like the crazy chunli onetouch on thirdstrike, touch of death blowups in marvel with crazy execution, or the street fighter vortex/wakeup guessing game, these "degenerate" states have proven to not only be extremely hype, but highly dramatic on stream.

Just my suggestion.... Team Ninja seems too hasty to implement player suggestions so if we arent careful we may ruin our own game just as it's getting started. Helena was first, what if other characters find force tech loops? what if the game evolves into one where a crazy spacing mindgame is played (like what manny used to shut mamba downand take more than 9 rounds off him) and the "force tech nonsense" becomes the high risk reward payoff?

I say take it slow with the nerf suggestions. Instead adapt first, try to figure out a counter, try to see if other characters have a similar tool or setup, see how the metagame changes, and EVEN IF you still cant figure it out, if its a tactic only 5% of players can use (manny vs e-mann shows skill still plays a part), LEAVE THAT SHIT THERE so everyone knows that yeah helena is low tier but black mamba's Helena is broken.....
