It's old news, but there is an open-source driver that the developers at Lab Zero have made in collaboration with a member of Naughty Dog of which will allow PS3 arcade sticks, or any stick that reads as a generic gamepad, to function on PS4 games. And if I remember correctly, Sony did say that it was up to game developers to allow backwards compatibility with gaming peripherals.

What I hope is that TN would be one of the first of fighting games to utilize this driver for PS4.

For one, it would make the PS4 iteration far more accessible than it is now for current PS4 owners who don't have a PS4 stick.

In addition, since PS4 is now the de facto console of tournament choice, it would also increase tournament attendance for those who still are on PS3, but have yet to move onto PS4. And for those who game on Xbox, as the driver recognizes any stick that is read as a generic gamepad, it would create a much cheaper alternative than to buy a $200 TE2 or the $150 HRAP4.

While the inclusion of this driver would benefit the game and community, I solely want it so that I don't have to pay money for a converter . Plus, it would put TN in a better light considering the immense amount of issues that are occurring with the PS4 and XBO versions.

In the meantime GIMX may be worth a try. It allows to control the PS4 over Bluetooth, from a Linux computer. The Teensy 2.0 (required only during pairing) and — if needed — a proper Bluetooth dongle shouldn't cost more than half the price of a TitanOne.

The instructions on the wiki could be clearer, here is a quick overview what to do:
  • Start your favorite Linux distro on your computer or Raspberry Pi.
  • Install the tools for the Teensy board, connect the Teensy via USB to the computer and flash the provided PS4 pairing firmware.
  • Start the GIMX launcher, select to set up a pairing to the PS4, pair the DS4 with the computer, remove the Teensy from the computer and plug it into the PS4, wait a few seconds, connect the Teensy to the computer again. Pairing done. You can put the Teensy somewhere safe until you need it again.
  • Create a configuration for your Input device. You can include mappings for the DS4 in the configuration to use both, fightstick and DS4. Ignore everything regarding mouse calibration on the wiki when you just want to setup your fightstick.
  • Start the configured connection in the GIMX launcher and play.

A USB to serial TTL converter is not needed in this setup as far as I can remember. So it's just connecting a tiny USB development board via USB from the computer to the PS4 back and forth to set up authentication of GMIX by forwarding the DS4 authentication data.

I have done this already with an Xbox fitghtstick and it works for me.

  • Initial pairing with the Teeny is done only once, similar to the requirement to connect a new DS4 via USB first. You may probably never have to do that again when you use the PS4 regularly with this "controller".
  • You need the Teensy 2.0 or any other board in a similar configuration with this chip, don't buy a Teensy 3.0, that's a different chip and there is no firmware for that currently.

I rock Windows 8, so I wouldn't be able to do something like that. Plus, I'd rather a wired alternative. I've been considering a Titan One for the time being, but like I said, I really hope cross-gen stick compatibility is somewhere near the top of their bucket list.

I've been using a TitanOne and it's very good. TitanOne maker used to make the CronusMax but he left over financial disputes. Anyhow the lag is pretty non-existant and works for various consoles. The only thing bad is that the PS4 has a 8 min timeout. The maker is working on an add-on device to get around that. Fortunately you can "reset" the 8 min timeout between matches. I noticed during the Winter Brawl tournament Sly Bass was doing that after every match.

Thanks for reinforcing my consideration! I've been pretty mixed about it, but since it's tournament viable, I'll buy one.

DOA5LR does not support the PS3 sticks.

Additionally, the games that have released this driver so far have competition issues with profiles such as MKX.
