Honoka comparision by oirandrive

This engine doesn't do any DOAXVV's character justice, even though at times they look fine on some screenshots.
This hair shader is a mess and now most of the girls look like lifeless plastic dolls, which is very underwhelming.

Now if they used Nioh's engine and refine the artstyle slightly for the next DOA game, this would solely bring to DOA most of its prestige back visual-wise.

Doa5 and Venus Vacation Vanilla use the same models and visuals, and DOA6 introduced more dynamic shaders for the visuals and Prism is still in the early pre touched up release stage of the game and the unflattering lighting in that picture don't really help Honoka much there, so I'm not surprised she doesn't currently look that great yet since they have yet to refine and adjust any flaws as of yet. I personally feel it's too early for a comparison since Prism hasn't even dropped yet with a final fixed up look

I think Wolong and or Nioh visuals would suit DOA tbh, but I'd prefer Wolong since it's more current compared to Nioh 2, the visuals in Nioh kinda scream DOA5 2.0 while a wolong look with made from scratch stuff would definitely make DOA stand out more. I don't want a DOA5 or DOA6 HD look, I want more current fresh visuals like a Prism

Wow X3 looks peak, obviously Prism is still in development but it looks off. I feel like these Xtreme games don't stay in development very long. Only a year for Prism. Xtreme 3 was probably the same, simply rushed and incomplete then abandoned.

@Jotamide
Is there a difference between Playasia and Amiami besides pre-order bonuses?
Are they just personal preference?

Back in the day, Play-Asia was one of the priciest places to import from. Today, I think Play-Asia has discount codes from big accounts like Wario64 and Kars but after a package I ordered from them got stuck in customs for 6+ months I decided to never use them again. So I went to AmiAmi and later Amazon Japan until I left North America. These days you have a ton more options so you need to see what works best based on where you live.

Not only does current-gen already look phenomenal but models from DOA5 from over a decade ago also aged like fine wine compared to some characters from other fighting games of this generation.
I guess this is subjective but I take something that was enhanced from a great base any day over something that was started from scratch that looks mediocre or okayish at best.
If it's not broke, don't fix it.

Aged like fine wine doesn't equate being presentable on current gen, I've worked with DOA5 models in DOA6 and can vouch for that since the textures and meshes would need alot of work on current gen, it's easy to gloss over it if you're either horny or going off based on presentation but up close it wouldn't hold up to a new revamped look.

Plus based on those screenshots you're sharing, they modded the game and or used reshade to enhance the visuals so I can't really take those for face value since the game doesnt look like that without enhancements. I'd prefer something fresh and new over old 2012 era meshes tbh since it's easy for any game with enough love put into it to age well, but that doesn't mean we deserve to have that recycled and reused on current gen consoles. That was DOA6's mistake with the hair imo and reused costumes, they upped the quality on textures but didn't really do much to improve what they had besides adjust physics and texture resolution. And let's not even bring up Tekken 7 since they reused TTT2 assets until the wheels fell off and the game didn't age well at all compared to SF5 and MKX and its competition at the time.

Besides that tho, here's some Yukino I wanted to share, her gravure scenes are lackluster tho. Really wish we could have had more phone scenes like her walking with it and maybe one of her drinking pink lemonade and eating matcha ice cream:

A game that was made with as much love, care and devotion as was put into DOA5 can only age well indeed, and your post made it clear that this is definitely what we have been missing from Team Ninja's end over the last few years and since DOAX3.
We don't deserve to get 2009 graphics in 2025 either, and people in here being okay with PRISM getting delayed after what they were shown so far says a lot.
Also you don't have to use any mod that improves visuals to make characters in this game shine.

It's another story for these ones, and as a reminder the game is coming in less than 4 months from now..

Is being ok with a delay supposed to be bad? Delay means they can fix up certain things and make sure the game is as sound as possible. And idk, I wouldn't go as far as love and devotion since TN was just trying to make a profit with the visuals they they had on hand at the time, or else they'd have overhauled it besides the soft engine they had.

And that's what I mean with the new screenshots you just posted. Nyotengu and Kokoro both look beautiful but compared to the modded Momiji shots you shared before, the 9.3 visuals dropped down to roughly 7.2, and it looks like a nicely aged PS3 game rather than something current gen. I'd rather something fresh since I'm kinda over the doa5 visuals tbh, it was going for the time and now I want to see them take it further

Yes, it is bad when devs have not planned or even considered a delay (yet).
What's even worse is getting this as current gen nowadays:

How so? Game looks great to me, i really don't see the issue unless I'm missing something. If Venus Vacation decided one day to do a silent major patch and upgrade the visuals to this, I wouldn't complain. Everything looks crisp and detailed and I love the environmental contrast.

only thing I'd fix is maybe the face models for certain girls like Elise and Honoka and Tamaki since I feel like they swapped their visual themes. Tamaki used to have an exotic look and now she looks more cutesy than sexy, and Elise looks like they somewhat sharpened her features to look to Christie which imo ruins her mature but cute vibe. Honoka looks good but she completely lost the cute baby face she used to have, now she looks more closer to 23 than 18 which erases the moe part of her design.

but again if they read feedback from the Japanese players, they should be fixed since Hitomi used to have facial issues pre DOA5 launch(although I loved her old face) and DOA6 had that issue pre launch too where they didn't fully optimize faces.

You're just getting visuals from a decade ago and being here for it.
That literally makes no sense.... i don't think Prism's visuals would have been possible in 2014, but now that you mention it you also did say that Prism resembled a ps2 game or something negative like that which also was kinda unrealistic imo when you have games like Tekken 7's visuals

Never said that but now that you mention it, I can definitely picture the above screenshots being taken from pre-rendered cutscenes from an old game.
And this was made with Unreal Engine 3 back in 2014:

Grasping at straws by posting environments there. I think Prism looks good, there's some aspects that need tweaking but I get next gen Tamaki next year so I couldn't be winning more than I already am :)

Tbh I'm also curious about the soundtrack, I hope they'll have a solid one since VV and X3 had good tracks like the Harmony song, Casino theme, and pretty much every song xD
