I'm not sure if it is a good or bad thing, but after being utterly reviled by MK's gore for a long time I now have somehow numbed in regards to it. If you see a fatality for the 20th time it doesn't shock you as much anymore. I still wished that stuff wasn't in the game or that you could simply turn it off in the game settings.
The developers are of course affected way worse, the article talks about them having to study murder or car crash victims or watching animals being slaughtered for reference. That's just sick and no wonder they are getting sick after being confronted with that for months, even years.
