How did you find your main character?

"Each one of you can choose one game, while your father comes back with the Playstation 2 with the seller", said my mother, at a 'French version' of Gamespot, back in Paris.

I instantaneously felt attracted by two covers : Dynasty Warriors and Dead or Alive with Kasumi on it. I've just realized a few months ago that both games were developped by TK.

Back home, I felt in love with Helena, because she had nice hair, nice outfits and "lovely white chicken legs". She replaced my first love, Princess Peach. Yes, that's it. I was like 10 years old. DOA2 (PS2) was the first game my parents bought for me and Helena's beauty has been haunting me for years. I remember my older brother being chocked by Tina's boobs, my mother being angry because Bass was beating Lei Fang in the oepening, my father being puzzled by Ayane's purple hair.

At first, I was strictly a Soul Calibur player since Soul Calibur 2. After about a month of DOA5 being released, my friend told me about it. I looked it up and was in awe at how if you fell off a stage, or was pushed through a wall, or slammed through the floor, you would not win the round, you would continue fighting in a new area. Honestly, this mechanic was what really brought me into the DOA series. Anyways, this brings me to my main character.

After seeing the trailer, I decided to look for a character. At first I thought Lei-Fang was DOA's version of Ivy minus the boobs (LOL I only saw her in her black dress). While perusing through the characters on the wiki, I found Tina and saw her chest and was like, "Yep, found a main". Then, I looked up Tina gameplay on YouTube and realized she was slow, sluggish and a power hitter. I tossed that idea in the trash. The friend who told me about DOA said he liked Helena, so I looked her up and instantly fell in love with her story, appearance, design and elegance. She was just amazing in all aspects to me. Her long flowing ponytail, colorful bows, etc. I looked up an Helena match (the promo of her versus Lisa) and fell in love with her moveset also. She was just perfect for me. And I've not turned back since.

It also seems that I'm subconsciously/arbitrarily attracted to Top Tier characters (SCIV: Amy, Setsuka SCV: Viola DOA5: Helena).

Used her ever since Virtua Fighter, my first fighting game. I still remember her big ass lips and her thick, sharp pony tail and almost no features because of the time period. I don't know why I like her so much, but she's the only fighting game character I love. I mean, I like a lot of other ones, but I love Sarah. Even the theme music for her is great. She's awesome. I like her voices too. Now, since this is about Dead or Alive, I remember the first character I chose back for Dead or Alive 2 Hardcore. Tina. I remember that silver outfit. I was clicking through the characters in my basement and when I got to her I just chose her. Didn't really expect her to become my favorite, but when playing her story and I got to the Lei Fang part, that was my favorite part of a Dead or Alive story ever. The way she picks up that small rock and says "This is power, Lei Fang" in that sly voice and throws it at Lei Fang's feet gets me every time. I laugh each time.

Like everyone else in this damn thread, I'm gonna keep it simple.
I picked Lisa because I liked her stance. It has that bounce in it. I also fight with that bounce in my stance. And most people hate fighting her so yeah. But my "bounce" is more like Sarah. I picked Sarah as my main in VF because I fight more like he (not with all those kicks and a FLA stance). But boxing and kickboxing is in my blood.

I saw Brad when he first debuted in DOA3. Ive always thought Zui Quan was such an amazing fighting style that relied on various uses of stances, explosive power generation and feints, and loved the inspiration from Drunken Master I and II!! I also loved the fact that he wasnt a generic old man, as most are when it comes it Zui Quan. Had awesome hair too! His new primary costume for DOA5 I feel is his best yet, as I feel it takes some cues from Lu Yan in the Forbidden Kingdom movie! :) And concurrently with DOA5 Brads arguably the best hes ever been thus far.

Time for a toast!:bradwong:

Played DOA1 in arcade when it first came out. Tried out several characters including Lei Fang, Tina and Hayabusa. The character who stood out to me most was Kasumi. I was 12 year old at the time and I loved innocent cute characters. And I loved how fast she was and I thought she looked cool. She been my main ever since.

But is it Kasumi's fault she was born into that role? No. Nor is it Ayane's fault she was born under her circumstances. She should hate the people that treated her like crap and play favorites. Kasumi didn't do anything to Ayane, they were even best friends. I just want them to get along again already. >>

Same way the poor hate the rich, is all it comes down to. You don't hate the people paying the rich, you hate the rich. Ayane fully understands and accepts why she has to stay in the shadows, but is still jealous of kasumi.

OK, screw this. After reading some of these posts, you guys are practically borderline 50 Shades. I'm posting the R-rated version tomorrow. Hopefully it's not too excessive. Mods, go easy on me. *crosses fingers*

What drew me into Hitomi had to be her style, outfits, and the overall cute factor. <3 Oh wait... You wanted to know how I found my main right? Of course. Well, this being my first DOA game (DOA4) I went through the whole list and spotted Hitomi; Then BAM! Instant main.

Prepare to do some reading...

I started in DOA with the Sega generator demo disc for the dreamcast which had DOA2 over 10 years ago. The only available characters were Kasumi, Ayane and Ein. I thought Ein looked cool on the select screen so I picked him first and loved everything about the guy, from his cool outfit to his epic fighing style, many days were spent beating Lei fang over and over again on stage 1.

When I eventually got the whole game I saw that epic character once again on the cover. Somehow I ended up maining Kasumi but as time passed I eventually migrated back to Ein. Also, his 33T (THE CHOP) is still the most epic throw in the DOA series.

In DOA3 I was dissapointed to see Ein was gone but surprised to see Hayate and even moreso Hitomi who back then, played much more like Ein, same for Hayate. So I mained Hitomi for the majority of my time playing 3. I eventually discovered you could unlock Ein but by then I was content with Hitomi.

4 Rolled around and I used everyone, but I sucked so I'll skip ahead to (3-5 years later) 4 or 5 months before 5's release when I actually started getting good. I mained Hitomi, got owned by everyone and eventually gave up, then I finally went back to Ein and stuck with him until he end of 4. 5 gives him the cut and I go to my VF Main Akira, eventually I lose my spirit and leave DOA but 5U and Ein's return rekindles it. Now he's back and so am I. There's something about him that just clicks with me, the cool factor, the theme, the fighting style just gels with how I play, I just get an enjoyment out of playing him that I can't get playing any other character.

There have definitely been some bumps in the road, but Ein is my one and only true main. Good Vibrations. :ein:

Slightly off topic but I'll never forget that DOA 2 demo vid for the dreamcast. I was too young to appreciate how epic it was (since I never bought DOA2) but I'll never forget that one scene where Kasumi-Alpha laughs and Kasumi calls her a swindler. I had no idea what was going on but that scene always fascinated me. I then ironically bought a used DOA1 game for my PS2 probably like a year later and it never occurred to me that I should get DOA 2 (I was mostly consumed with Pokemon and Power Stone at that point).
