DOA6 interviews

That's some serious nitpicking lol.

Using obvious hyperbole as a rhetorical device is not inherently childish.

Turning a conversation into a mocking meme? Yes that is literally one of the most childish things ever.

LOL @ the people who can't bear to see opinions that aren't always positive/praise. when someone openly points out issues they have with something, it doesn't necessarily mean that they're nitpicking it. All i saw were critiques of the overall look of that screenshot. what's wrong with that? personally i think people here should be free to like... not always praise how this game looks without getting immediately shot down or ignored, no matter how big or small it may be. i've seen the same happen with discussions of the ingame graphics, or the stage designs, or even the new characters. there's nothing wrong with speaking your mind and voicing your opinion, especially on, you know, an online forum? i thought that was the point? as long as nobody's initally being an a-hole about it, I don't see a problem. I don't get why some here immediately put up resistance against any slightly negative words anyways. if the past couple of posts were along the lines of "omfg TN snapped with this UI <3" nobody would be arguing right now.

Anywho, i don't think this looks terrible or cringy per se, it's just that (ebil opinions incoming!!) I don't know what's going on? how do we know what event occurs before/after another? is each row a different chapter? is this supposed to be a timeline?? stuff like that should be made obvious, even through screenshots imo. and about that text on top, I always felt like the big, translucent S T O R Y in the upper left corner should scroll across the top of the screen or maybe keep it static but put a little translucent DOA6 logo in the upper right corner so there isn't just a whole lot of blank space. "story Story S T O R Y" as a whole might just be placeholder text because i don't think they would actually keep that same word 3 whole times like that; one of those "story"s could easily be replaced with a % completion rate or the current scene's time of day or something. even then, i see how people could consider THAT nitpicky but still, who tf cares??

IIItttt's JUSZT A gAem thAO Y duz N-E ov iT eVUn reAaollly MAttEr?

"I don't care about the confused U.I"
"I don't care about the fucked up lighting"
"I don't care about the anatomically fucked up models"
"I don't care about Raidou"

I could replace half the roster with monster trucks and you wouldn't give a shit, but your insouciance doesn't relegate all criticism you don't care about to nit-picking.

That is true... and I'm going to preface this now, I AM NOT TRYING TO SAY "Because X is bad, Y is better" BY ANY MEANS.
I can't say that's the shittiest thing I've seen for awhile from any modern fighter.
I mean everything about MvC:I is thematically worse than anything from DOA6 and the Story Banner and everything about it is too cluttered, the male anatomy does need work, the lighting damn sure needs work... but I'll fight you on Raidou.

Of course comparing to other DOA's, this is definitely shoddy but at the same time, Itagaki was alot more of the type of guy who focused more on everything else BUT the mechanics(as he practically hated fighting games) but we are at this weird road where even with all of this shoddy work, Dead or Alive 6 is somehow still better looking in most departments altogether than any other fighter(Injustice 2 and MKXI is pretty close but again... the facework and animations... *sigh*)

EDIT:

I don't disagree that there's some shady perceptions going on here. But, TN took great pains to make their game be seen a certain way. Commercials, magazine ads... I remember even now articles about DOA3 that just had Kasumi and Ayane models in bikinis throughout. The magazines have to get those assets from somewhere. There is a real scenario where it didn't have to get this bad. The DOA5 DLC certainly didn't help either. And it seems like even in DOA6, the women get 5 outfits and the men get 2. So, they're still kind of leaning into it.

I do remember those Lost Souls costumes, but I don't think anyone actually played LS in any real numbers so SC gets away with it again. lol

Again, I understand this. This was clearly the direction Itagaki wanted to go with DOA WELL before the "I Am A Fighter" movement the new Team Ninja wanted to start with DOA5(which is possibly the reason it sank as they did do a good job with not just throwing fetishistic DLC at us from the start of Vanilla but something happened with Ultimate), so it's basically an uphill battle at the start when it's already ingrained into people's subconscious.

The issue I have with this sort of thing isn't the fact that you aren't right, but how ridiculous it is that somehow, it's the spinoff VOLLEYBALL GAME that hurts DOA more than anything else any other fighter has ever done.
Like DOA, even at it's absolute worst... is pretty damn tame outside of bikinis(yeah there was definitely some bad ones but that's it), it still really doesn't feel like anything else any other fighter hasn't done in both hindsight and retrospective.
Chun-Li in SFV right now has been getting the Kasumi treatment in the DLC department for quite some time, having costumes that basically would rival the outfits in DOA right now and I'm pretty sure that most of the females now have more outfits than the males as well, some just as risque or as ridiculous as the ones in DOA.

I talked about Soul Calibur and people haven't forgotten Lost Swords, they just pretend it didn't happen since it was a pure Pay to Win Game that you had to throw over 100$ of dollars to get a certain OP costume or a character from Soul Calibur.

King of Fighters is absolutely not tame at all and with Gal Fighters, they are equally embracing it just as much.

At this point, there's honestly a limit to my patience in this(despite how insane that seems from your perspective) and I don't have a problem admitting that this is a sin from DOA's past that can never be removed(and honestly, I'd rather it not from a perspective), my issue is when people do their best to suddenly ignore that most other fighters have the same skeleton in their closet because of a spinoff volleyball game that now won't even be released in the West ever again because even Koei Tecmo knows no one would ever carry it at all... but people will be okay with 14 year old Talim showing underboob if you break off all her "armor" or dress her in Ivy or Taki's outfits because...

Your failure to negotiate humor and still maintain a conversation doesn't make me childish.

Being an ass isnt humor it's just being an ass. I'd put you in ignore, but somehow an ass became a mod and you cant ignore mods.

My ignore list is empty, and will always be, I think people have a chance to grow out of past tensions,

Not one thing looks right on this screenshot... not even the layout of the buttons. 2nd chapter!? Why not just 'Chapter 2?' That written description of the mission is just icky.

yeah, the description is quite cringy, but it's too fit honoka innocent hyperactive personality..
btw she's aiming for eliot @KasumiLover

Other things that had it didn't splatter it all over, so they're seen as a fighting game first and a waifu dressup sim second; DOA marketed itself as softporn, so it's eternally seen as softporn first and a fighting game second.

And then there's the community. For the other games, for every [chunk of degeneracy] there's a [chunk of healthy game discussion] to balance it out. Here, it's either a character circlejerk or another hot controversy. TN is evidently aware of this, so you had this interview bit where Shimbori straight up told the retards to keep their hyperactive organs in their pants:
I’d like the fan to enjoy that, but please don’t talk too loudly about it. The more attention this draws, the less I can do it. If you really want to have nice costumes, please quietly enjoy them so we can keep making them.
Again, if people talk too much about it, others will come in and bash it. So just enjoy it

It's pretty hilarious that despite 6 divorcing itself from the previous marketing approach, the "fans" collectively went into an uncontrollable hysteria with their NO NO NO I WANT YOU TO SPELL IT OOOOOOOOUT, I WANT A PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENT, WHERE ARE MY TEEEEETS AND BEEKEENEEEES WHY DON'T I SEE THEEEEEEEEEEEM #NotDOA. The result is every head is turned toward the franchise again, and they went oh that's so typical for doa again.
(implying anybody with half a brain wouldn't milk you dry with dlc instead of putting shit like that for free in a base game rofl mao)

Also I'm particularly salty that all exchanges with the director devolved into this brainless talk instead of more intelligent subjects that might be interesting to all who play fighting games. For example
- "people in the fgc avoid doa because of the mechanics, since you're reaching out to a wider audience what did doa6 do to ease these concerns"
- "you also have 痛餓鬼(itagaki) zoomers saying they miss being able to hold half of the opponent's hp away at any time, what do you have to say about this"
etc.

So yeah it's bad history having a very volatile reaction with how the fanbase behaved. Perception of this series is forever in the shitter. I'm instantly jumping ship the moment someone else takes on the interactive stage mantle.

An interesting new interview (Japanese):
https://s.famitsu.com/news/201901/26171078.html

It seems (it's hard to be sure because of the strange automatic translation) that the most feedbacks about the beta are some requests : more characters, more stages.
Shimbori would say in that interview that he does want to add more stages in future. And more costumes, but we all know that !

He also would say that it's not possible to make a mix between the upper part and the lower part of costumes in DOA central. We can only add accessories.

Was looking for this thread. Any word of the Koei Tecmo EU interview they were suppose to do? I'll contact Simon again but curious is if because Shimbori is still around traveling to different events, which would make sense on the delay.

See? I told you guys that they're listening! As for the costume situation...I don't really care. At least I won't have to deal w/ people's ugly ass custom designs like I do in Tekken and SC (looking at most of people's CAS's in the SC thread) l0l

Kokoro fans lowkey becoming the next Zafina/Momiji fans?
With their hate spree lately I wouldn’t be surprised.

I don’t see how he is an ass. Sure, Brute can be a negative Nancy at times but that’s about it.

I don’t mind not being able to mix and match stuff, characters would look terrible and I think DOA doesn’t need a customisation mode like SCVI and Tekken. DOA5 had so many costumes over the years that a customisation mode like that would feel unnecessary. I know people might disagree with me on this but I actually want TN to do monthly DLC packs again like in the season passes.

When the Famitsu interview brought up Leon and Ein, Shimbori brought up the demand for Queen Rachel and watcher of Shrines, Momiji. They were clearly the most demanded characters that haven't been featured... even being the common request of the beta feedback.

Then he mentioned what I figured he would mention... "they cost so much money" to rework a few assets you already own!?

I understand that they don’t have the funds right now to get them into 6 right now. They would have to give them redesigns, hire the same or even entirely new voice actors who’ll have to read a new script. They would also have to rework their move sets and balance them out for the new mechanics, they would have to create new moves, new animations, they would have to create fighter cards, update them to their website. In conclusion, they would have to do so much stuff in order get them in. Which costs money they don’t have.
