I'm aware that Team Ninja essentially put DOA on hiatus (for likely a substantial amount of time), but the concern I have is that any momentum gained from NEC18's awesome tournament (around 125 players!) is going to be pretty much fizzled out by next year. It's going to be a challenge to get people to stay interested in DOA5LR next year, and the scene is eventually going to become dormant until DOA6.
With Team Ninja supporting DOA5, it was already a bit of a struggle to get a scene going and maintain interest in the series. Pulling support from the series and giving the audience nothing to look forward to DOA-wise is going to basically kill off the relatively dwindling interest in the series until they eventually decide to release/reveal a DOA6 in like 5-10 years, etc. Again, no disrespect to Team Ninja, and I applaud them on the heartfelt finale to the DOA5 chapter, but where exactly do the DOA disciples and DOA community go from here? One can only do so much to keep the FGC interested in DOA. Team Ninja's community support and the Battle Royal circuit contributed greatly to the maintained interest in DOA5/LR. The writing was on the wall that they were eventually going to stop supporting DOA5, but the news they revealed stings to anyone that has put in effort to promote DOA in some capacity.
Take note, I'm not pissed off at this, just mildly disappointed and mostly concerned if anything. However, SCV still managed to get people playing at tournaments (including NEC18) after Namco pretty much pulled support for it back in July 2012. Let's see how this goes for DOA. If Team Ninja is potentially planning a new IP fighting franchise, I'd support that too. I'm just in a weird place right now...
