Bump and hell yes!
The direction that DOAXVV is taking is nightmarish now.

Scroll here:

20 new characters, Japanese for the most. No variety release after release – only random, petite, bubbleheaded characters with a different hairstyle and demeanour. It was cute at first, but now it's frightening.
Meg looks like Yukino, who looks like Koharu, who looks like Marie Rose, who looks like Honoka, who looks like Misaki.
Funny how the 20+ year-old new characters are the ones who have distinctive faces.

I think it’s always been subjective what people decide to see for that kind of thing.

I must have an issue or something, but I see them all individually, but I see your issue.

I mean like, it is a Japanese developed game, they're gonna do what they know will do well which is girls of a similar nationality since Japan isn't so much big on outside demographics, especially since Venus Vacation is a game that was intended for the Japanese exclusively, I doubt they majorly take into account what the western base wants.

I think they're fine with us as far as our support for the game and buying content but I don't think they're that invested in what we want in particular, hence why we have yet to see any more western girls like Tina who I guess they didn't expect to do well even tho I'm sure she was a well received addition.

I don't really see much semblance besides the couple of face similarities but again it's like what do you expect when that's what Japan is into? There's a reason why the girls are usually 18-19, shorter, and more bubbly/troped in nature since that's a Japanese thing. I personally see no big deal since the game is F2P anyway

I think a lot of the new XVV characters definitely have a similar physiognomy to them - almost like KT is approaching new character design with a premise along the lines of "let's see what happens when we mix the traits of character X and character Y". While I suppose it is a little boring, it's clearly been successful, and I can't say that any of the new characters actually look bad. I'm more concerned with the personality and clothing style of the characters than their bone structure anyways.

I'd like to see more older female characters(28+) and younger male characters(18-22) to balance the ages gender-wise a bit.

unfortunately that's what's making the monies. if it ain't broke don't fix it kinda thing. I don't even know if Tina and Leifang did very well with the fanbase in XVV, but I'm going to assume not as well as the new girls.

I think Tina and Lei did well, majority of that I think since they're both popular OG girls in DOA and it's the nostalgia element they brought since they have connections to the other OG girls I wanna say, I think that's definitely a good indicator that more OG girls could be added in to positive reception!

Oh that's good to hear. It would be good to add Mila since tomboys were quite big for quite a while. They could use her alternative hairstyle with the hairclip.
I remember reading a fanfic where Zack was kind of weirded out when Mila was more feminine, as he saw her as "one of the bros", so they could implement that in XVV, lol.

At this point anything will do as long as it's not another Marie Rose/Honoka face-swap-edit petite character.
It's like they're not even trying anymore: they have obviously been using the face of one or the other as a base for experimentation, resulting in Misaki, Luna, Kanna, Patty, Koharu and so on.

Makes you wonder whether or not Kasumi was the one that was actually cloned at this stage.

NiCO isn't in or from XVV though, so I don't think it's fair to throw her in with the rest of them if that's the argument you're making.

Without a doubt, NiCO is first on the list of Marie Rose/Honoka duplicates modelwise and it was clearly the beginning of them showing laziness back then, as they stopped caring to create distinguishable characters. She has a nice design overall though.

Any of these is more than welcome over another lazy doppelganger.

Would you have made the same complaint back in the "good old days", when all of the characters' faces looked like this?

I'd rather have five more "Marie-face" characters with unique personalities and aesthetics than another "sweet and naive" character whose sole defining trait is their skin color and cheekbones.

Hmm, team ninja did actually ditch itagaki anime design.

To transform from anime to current design is not an easy task.

Not only that, but people are going to really nitpick at Team NINJA for doing what every fucking developer does which is reusing assets.

I for one think GTA VI looks awesome. Did I complain that I saw recycled characters all over the place and three different girls using the same twerk animation? NO.

There you go, five more "Marie-face" "sweet and naive" characters with totally never-seen-before aesthetics and whose sole defining trait is their hair color and personalitits.

At that time, they had pressure on their back and managed to update them while preserving their former essence, starting from scratch.
That's when they were at their prime regarding character model department.
After Honoka was released, they simply went on that easy, uninspired loli reproduction route and took two steps back.

I think you misunderstood my quote - I don't want "sweet and naive" I want angry, devious, and distant, while still being physically cute. The closest any XVV characters have gotten to that is Nagisa and maybe Lobelia. KT seems afraid of putting real Bad Bitches in XVV though, which is my guess as to why Christie, NiCO, and Rachel aren't in the game yet. Even the fighting games have enough sweet and naive characters already (Kokoro, Honoka, Hitomi, and Mila all come to mind). I don't really think there's anything wrong with these characters as they are already, but more diverse personality archetypes is something I'd like to see moving forward.

Additionally, the fact that XVV tends to prioritise putting the characters in the most skimpy swimsuits possible over unique and interesting outfits hurts character recognition I think. Meg and Yukino's default outfits feel very same-y, for example.

More like we need a custom clothing for the characters. I want to customize a 2 piece bikini that can cast a lvl 45 hurricane spell, +50 charisma, -10 fall damage, and the optional sunroof sil vous plaites. Merci buckets!

I mean it's Team NINJA we're talking about. When it comes to character artstyle and overall graphics, they have always been ahead of their time.
If you take a look at the insane level of details put into DOA4's stages from 2005, which btw can still hold a candle to some of Tekken 8 from 2024, you quickly understand they were two steps ahead other 3D fighters.
So watching them going backwards, not only with all these uninteresting character ideas but also with the questionable choices they have been making in regards to this series over the last few years, has been all the more painful.
Back then they used to give 110% effort, now it's around 40%. Not to be okay with this as a long-time fan seems completely legit.

And for whatever reason, we got overfed with cheap, unoriginal "venus" newcomers that bring next to nothing new to the series instead of that, that's the point.
Now they have the opportunity to literally reuse existing assets and please the few remaining DOA fans out there, but they won't do it either when they got half the job done. The hell?!

they are reusing their faces alot buts that only in the series extreme.the marie type appeals to the culture there, as that is their main source of revenue. here’s to hoping the next doa fighting game whenever it comes out succeeds all our expectations.
