Most of DOA5's defaults were actually of very high quality, design-wise and in terms of technical execution. Helena's blue dress and Ayne's ninja garb are prime examples. Not even Tekken 7 reaches that polygon count and texture quality.

Are you going by look? How do we know how many polygons are in the T7 models?

Okay let me put my answer in spoilers and let me make an open post in the graphics thread, where it really belongs to:
Yes and no. ;) The polygon count of the DOA models are of course long known. The usual count is about 30k for the men and about 40k-60k for the girls. Kasumi's Ninja Gaiden-esque suit is one of the highest in quality:

tasug5.jpg

For any PS3/Xbox360 game this is an already huge amount of polygons! Soul Calibur IV/V models just have about 20-25k polygons but they still look fairly good in comparison.
Ayane's default costume is a slight alteration of her Ninja Gaiden model which had over 100k+ polygons.

This is even today a big amount for a game. You clearly can see the high quality by the very few visible edges the model has in the game. It looks very smooth.

For comparison: Street Fighter V's models have about 60-80k polygons, Marius' model in Ryse has about 80k polygons (they once wanted to use 150k but had to downgrade), Final Fantasy XV models have about 100k (20k just for the hair, the total amount of a Soul Calibur 5 model) and with Tekken 7...I actually have to guess. ;) But that's not very difficult for a trained...or rather a very nerdy eye like mine. XD You literally can count the polygons on many parts of the model (which is already a good sign for low quality) and thus make a fairly good estimate for the rest of the model. Lucky Chloe is a good example:

lucky-chloe-tekken7-screenshot.jpg

Alone the hair with pigtails has obviously less polygons as for example Marie Rose in DOA5. See, you can count them by the visible edges? Now look at the paws which I would argue are even made up of less polygons than many DOA2U models on the original Xbox. They didn't even model the buttons here, they are just textures...
Even if you take one of the character models that were revealed after the big makeover of Tekken 7, when it became Tekken 7 Fated Retribution, you can still fairly easy make out polygon edges on the hair (very low quality for today's standards), the veil (easier visible in motion in the trailer) the arm and shoulder and last but not least the edgy boob, lol.

maxresdefault.jpg

In Fated Retribution they mostly added fancy post processing effects (more contrast, tinted filters, film grain, chromatic aberration, depth of field etc...) to make it look more impressive and stylish. It definitely works but the actual character models were hardly touched and are imho very disappointing for this generation of games.

After all these ramblings let me try to give you an estimate. ;)
I would say they are made up of about 50k polygons. That's the double amount of the polygons TTT2 had, which is definitely an improvement. The character bodies are less improved (if improved at all) but the clothing probably got most of the extra polygons so they flow and animate better. And they definitely do if you watch footage of the game:

But impressive for today's standards? Nope, not at all.

Well it makes sense the default costumes had way more quality to it. They likely had way more individual time worked on them pre release. Not to mention those were aesthetic bait for you to actually get the game.

Considering the DlC costumes now are being mass produced with various packs in a cycle they are obviously focusing more on quantity then quality. Which honestly make sense. 99% of the regular customers are not gonna be picky about polygons for post release shit.

It's like faulting a cook for making a McDonald's tier burger instead of a fancy restaurant tier burger to a customer that can't tell the difference between the two burgers without being told.

DoA 6 will likely have nice costumes again to start to help lure people in, but then they are gonna keep up with the mass produced quality because that is what works.

Too bad only DBomb actually plays him lol

SilverForte uses Raidou as well, I think he mains him in this version actually. I only really played Raidou because he's different. (Similar case to Leon back on Ultimate.). Most of the time I only use him to find stuff to post in the forums or playing with friends (Code etc.)

Still Akira though ahaha.

Speaking of content, wouldn't it be cool if they brought something like this back? The Bankotsubo stage changing taunt on Miyama was cool.

It would be really nice, if TN would "bring back" something like this. I have my doubts that the new stage will be related to any requests or suggestions, we have made the last view month and years. Maybe it comes directly out of the "Samurai Warriors" universe.

Hopefully, I am wrong. The demand for "Aerial Garden" is still here. I have seen some requests for DOA4 marketplace, Demon Church, Dragon Hills and Freedom Survivor too.

I mostly meant it as a joke, cuz there's like not many Raidou mains at all. I can't even think of ONE EU Raidou player .

This. I always laugh at how people act that other fighting games make quality DLC packs themselves...when they don't. It's just as mass-produced as DOA's while their base alternate costumes look nice because it's just as much bait as regular costumes. Not to mention most people really don't care for polygons because most people never look that deep to begin with.

I honestly hope they bring something like that back as well, but I don't think it will be as effective anymore(despite it should be easier because DOA2U is 2 generations old now).

I think we will have to wait till DOA6 for any of the old stages or new stages influenced by the old stages...the push to try and become a "real fighter" really gutted the creativity in making stages that's more like the past and instead focused on squared stages with nothing going on.

You won't see DOA6 for a long while. Nioh, partnership with SquareEnix development for Dissidia etc.

Yeah good luck with that.

I kinda am happy that DOA6 won't be here any time soon....I mean come on! The party's just gotten started, why stop now when it's only been a year? There's plenty of themes of DLC they haven't yet went into making.

I'm actually wondering how much longer they will support DOA5. Surely they will support it for the rest of this year at least so that they can release lots of dlc for The new character. ( forgot her name )

I'll give the game 3-4 years tops. They still haven't yet mentioned what other things they've been planning as DLC. I'm sure once the costume DLC starts lessening, they'll start adding other stuff like hairstyles, more stages, and even more modes.

Why would they stop with the quick and easy and on top of that very lucrative costume DLC to bring hairstyles and stages that are much more work and very likely less lucrative?
I also don't get the obsession with hairstyles many seem to have. XD Team Ninja obviously doesn't seem to care much for them at all.

I don't think they'll stop making DLC per say, but when it slows down and there's no more tasteful/practical ideas they'll move to different cosmetic options for added revenue. As for the hair, it's still possible they could eventually use that as a DLC outlet in the future. There's a pretty sizeable amount of people on Twitter who've asked for some, and I myself have tweeted them saying I would seriously PAY for more styles. XD I think they'll listen, I mean they did when I asked for DOA1 tracks about 2 months before LR was announced.

Why rush a game now when it could be delayed to become either a good/best one in the series, and when the game does get rushed the members within these forums will complain along with using "They have all the money from the DLC." as an excuse and reason with the qualified DOA6 sequel gets released and why it didn't turn out so good.

I mean they did when I asked for DOA1 tracks about 2 months before LR was announced.

They asked for that since Vanilla and Ultimate. LR is basically "Oh snap, we forgot to add the DOA1+DW Mix into Ultimate. Ah well, we can add that in the next game update."

I like the amount of difference it can have with a character. An outfit's an outfit but a hairstyle can change the appearance of the character themselves. Like I haaaaaaaaaaate Hitomi's default loose hair but her ponytail makes me actually want to pick her up.

And compare how Ayane looks normally vs with those giantass senran kagura pigtails.

I felt the same way you felt about Hitomi's loose hair as I did with Pai's pigtails/Oxtails. I couldnt like her until she got her much better imo short hair.

As much as I'd love hair dlc I'm not sure TN would consider it with more safer ways to profit off of outfits.
