  • After going over the Bayonetta 3 voice controversy myself, I've personally lost some respect for Hellena Taylor. The whole situation just comes off as her being salty that Bayonetta is continuing without anyway after she declined the contract. Comparing the situation with VA's to nurses and the like is also a bit tone deaf. She had no right to insult Jennifer Hale.

On a different note, I suspect that Japanese developers don't value english voice actors as much as larger Western developers. Anime english voice actors get paid peanuts.

Well VA aside. Thats a small portion of what the game is. What got me to the first Babe-O-netta was the stuff behind the scenes. You got your programmers, artists, fashion designers, animators, storyboards, etc.

Jennifer Hale (aka Dr Naomi Hunter, Kronika, etc) just replied on what her take is on twitter.

Modern Platinum is questionable even without their peanut payments for VAs and even without this controversy, I'd wait for proper reviews since their recent outputs were a bit questionable. It's probably Bayo but now with uglier designs and more boring looking urban levels, but they need that safety and familiarity for the fans instead of having another low selling flop like Babylon's Lulz or Wonderful 101
I literally won my very first match of Fortnite's battle royale.

Fwiw I have never played Fortnite but I hear when you first start it primerily matches you up with other beginners and bots. So it's actually not uncommon to win early matches.

Weird. I don't think Apex Legends did that (well the "bots" I mean). Though that would be odd with squads. Took a bit longer than 1 game to win my first match. Oh, the opponents definitely seemed like beginners too haha.

yeah fortnite lines you up with other players around the same level. So if you're a noob, then you will play noobs until your level goes up. However, the levels do reset with each season, so you might not be facing just beginners.
My Steam Deck came in today! DOA6 & SCVI run great on the device. I can get away with DOA6 at 1080p on minimal settings (Though you'll have to go 720p for a solid framerate on every stage), and SCVI at 800p and high settings. Disappointed that Tekken 7 & DOA5LR aren't compatible on it. I hope they get updated by Valve in the future.
I just noticed that Guilty Gear Strive and Blazblue Crosstag Battle will be coming to Xbox. That is interesting. ArcSys finally going to release more of their games on Xbox? Dragonball Fighterz is pretty dope on the platform. (@1:16)
    Thoughts on Tekken 8?

Looks pretty damn fine. Not sure how good the final product would look in comparison. Tekken 7 looked massively downgraded at launch.

Oh, for sure guys. @DestructionBomb I get you. I remember being hype for Tekken 7 then being considerably letdown by the final product released in June 2017. Pretty much by default Tekken 8 will be the best looking 3D fighter likely if it's optimized for 9th gen consoles.

I'm at least curious to see how it'll stack up visually to Dead or Alive 6 on an Xbox Series X (or a gaming PC capable of outputting 4K60fps along with those particle effects...). On the bright side, hopefully Bamco won't cheap out on T8 like they did with T7.

Visually its ehhh ok. It wont have the soft engine a la doa5lr and doa6. Ever since Harada and Ono got together, I noticed their foot fetish is starting to show in their games. Hopefully, modes like tekken force/the devil within, tekken bowl, and tekken ball are unlockables instead of dlc. I wished that Bamco and other companies gives us more instead of giving their IPS the Madden 23 treatment.

Hey, does anyone play DNF Duel? I've been looking into the game (feels like a spiritual successor to GBVS). Thinking of Swift Master, Crusader, Kunoichi or Dragon Knight. Any thoughts?

Swiftmaster is the meta for now, but all those other characters you mentioned are also strong as well, the game has the modern arcsys thing where the characters are so clumped together in terms of power that you cant go wrong picking any of them

that said, there are characters that have that extra ompf that makes them stick out from the rest, swiftmasters buttons, crusaders infinite, etc etc

Swift Master & Crusader are so OD lol. Leaning towards Striker at the moment. She's like Hitomi on steroids. I don't think I've seen a scarier character when they touch you.
Dragonball Fighterz getting an XSX & PS5 upgrade along with rollback netcode is pretty neat. Happy to see that game succeed.

On the otherhand it still leaves a sour taste in your mouth when games receive features that they should've had at launch for instance. Has this "late to the party" feeling. EVO 2022 feels like the "finally revealing/adding rollback/crossplay" event.
Interesting discussion here with regards to the FGC's disposition:

I do feel that the more famous a fighting game is the more its likely for you to get views on them if you're making content for those games but that'll get you so far, you either need to be an entertaining person or you need to find somehing that you can do with fighting games that feels more unique and at the same time feels interesting/fun to do and/or watch both for you and your viewers to start growing.

This is especially important nowadays for players that do put in the work or even do it as a full-time job because many tournaments have very small payouts, especially the lesser known titles do. They need content creation to go well in order to help themselves out or even sustain themselves financially, considering the rising costs regarding, well, pretty much everything.

Also, there is a chance that fighting games could become F2P completely in the future but I don't see that happening anytime soon. If Project L becomes very successful, then that might be a starting point for it, until then, we'll have to wait and see.
Just want to give a shoutout to how amazing Awesmic's DOA Lore Explained series is. He outdid himself with the Bass episode!

I don't mean to say I thought Itagaki was the only one who can save DOA (and maybe NG) now, but it needs someone at the helm who will be driven and fight for the series and the devs. He's not the only one that could do that, DOA5 seemed to have it alright in that regard at least for a while. Besides, Itagaki being back under KT and TN would never happen.

@inochinagi I mean, you can have the biggest drive to make things happen but end up not happening because it's all corporate in the end.

Heck he legitimately no longer has interest to return to DOA anyway because Itagaki himself knew he no longer has that capacity and support compared to back then while he was arguing on FB with DOA drama, but yeah him returning back to KT is never happening lol.

The only two people TN has that could potentially bring DOA back is Yasuda (Nioh etc. Unsure if he's familiar with FGs heavily) and Masaaki Yamigawa (Bloodborne, who's actually familiar with FGs but his strengths is in the action RPG department).
