"Now For Business..." General DOA5 Christie Gameplay Discussion

lol I love how online people just freeze when I do 3PP then hold P for a free guard break. They're like DERRRR and the guard break isn't even that much advantage but people still stay blocking because they think it's like +15 on block.

Lol LondonLust. I wish I wasn't having trouble with my online (it's so laggy). Otherwise, we'd get some fun Christie mirror matches going.

Oh god yes! I've practiced it in training mode too. Good for ducking under attacks!
I just love it!
I just wonder why the backdash isnt possible after 2 jakeihos...?

Man i am having a hard time figuring out how to play this game and character. Keep losing to people who just go nuts and keep doing random holds till it works. The lack of information really isn't helping,

lol at all these posts ^ anybody on ps3 want to attempt to play lol

Oh damn, you're on PS3? I'm on Xbox, and even then, my connection is horrible at the moment (I messed about online with a friend and he says matches with me were some of the worst he encountered). It's currently a wireless connection, I'm attempting to get a hard wire up to the loft where I have my system setup.

On a side note, I feel ok with the rest of the characters, but it's weird how Christie just feels like second nature and strong! I think we need to update this thread with everything we're discovering with her (strong moves/frame advantages and disadvantages/strategies..etc..).

Been playing around with the roster and taking a huge liking to Christie's moveset. But thus far, Christie seems pretty horrid in this game. You have to work your ass off just for average rewards 90% of the time. Meanwhile most your opponents can get the same rewards and then some for far less work. Sometimes even just by accident. She seems to be an interrupter above all else so you have to perfectly be able to read your opponent and take advantage of frames at all times. That sucks to say the least. Her options to get into stances, evade and do damage even with stage hazards is atrocious.

A shame since I'm liking how she plays and like the character. But it's not fun playing a character with that much of an uphill battle every match. Has Christie ever been a solid character in any DOA game? I've never seen many people play her or hear much talk about her on competitive levels. Who have been premiere Christie players if there are any?

So I've decided to pick up Christie in this game. I kind of skipped DOA 4, but I used to play her in 3.1. This thread has been super helpful, but I'm pretty sure I'm still playing her wrong haha.

Really? I mean sure, she has to work a little harder than other characters but it hasn't been that bad for me. DOA4 Christie was a lot harder to win with than DOA5 Christie.

Her problem seems to be that above all else she has to poke away at her opponents to win at all (she has super long combo strings as even basic combos yet gets no damage off them 9/10 times even with stage hazard or a power blow follow up and even this for reasons I stated above is not necessarily easy for her to get either). You have to do this a hell of a lot and it seems to be a double edged sword. The longer the match goes on, the more damage she gets (you hope). But at the same she's at risk for bigger damage where many characters can make up the deficit even i if major with ease in a short time period. You don't want to be trading damage with someone like Hitomi, Bayman or Bass as Christie when it comes to examples off the top of my head. They'll take your lifebar for free.

Hitomi can outpoke (better spacing pokes too it seems), make better use of stage hazards and walls and EASILY outdamage Christie even without those things while Christie herself uses them. Christie will have to take 2-3 times the amount of risk for the same reward someone gets with 1 risk or none and even then her damage or advantage after will often fail to compare. Aggressive Christie seems strongest (unless you're a super good turtle who can outlast the much bigger and easier damage most the other characters will get) but if your opponent figures you out you're done or it's right back to where you started. It's so frustrating.

I can see why going off this game. She's obviously been a meh character every game. Even at the non-competitive level it's a headache playing her in anything not a mirror. But even then there's so many times where I know there's things that I KNOW should be happening but aren't. Apparently she lost good stance options in this game. Eh. Too bad. I apparently have a fondness for silver-haired English female video game characters as Ivy from the Soul series I'm also big on.

Christie is made for rushdown and tiny bit of evasion (imo) in this game. Use her 4in1s a lot of and use her many guard breaks on block. Her CB is one of the easiest to land because it's so fast. Btw Hitomi has always been one of Christie's hard matchups.

Her evasion seems limited as a specific skill imo due to the new sidestep system. The fact she's a rushdown character with so many characters better at it annoys me. Hitomi can do basically everything of worth that Christie can do and then some and with ease so makes sense she's a tough match up for her. Ease of use of CB (but damage from it severely lacking) and guard break being easier than most to pull off is nice but they fail to make up for her many other shortcomings. Depending on the opponent those may not even be factors to add into the equation at all. Not major ones anyway. Hmmm. I'll just play her for fun but not for anything serious.

I'm so used to people picking up Hitomi, when they see me use Christie.. So funny because it's a lot easier to read the player when you've already fought a thousand Hitomis before :D

Right now I consider Hayate and Rig my hardest match-ups..

And to the guy complaining,,,
I take pride in maining Christie. She's not an easy character, never was and never will be.
She plays very different from the other cast members, which in my opinion is only a good thing.
If you want easy sit down and pick another character. If you want challenge, it's a mountain to climb.

I would never change my main only because they seem to be an underdog...
Winning using a character like Christie feels dignified and justified in my mind.
Hell, if I ever get to top-8 at a tournament that will mean a world to me :)

Hmmm. I'll just play her for fun but not for anything serious.
I was kind of waiting for this..

I feel that there aren't enough good Christie players out there, to go to these events and stuff.
Maybe even some of them want to make it a bit easier for themselves and then choose their secondary character..`?
In the pro world Tiers do matter IMO. Don't like it, but it's true..
