Curious and probably a weird topic I guess, but am I one of the few that feels the FGC lacks more reaction videos? not talking about the ones where people would react to some new fighting game trailer or a DLC character/stage for the clicks. Mostly talking about community work in findings. Things like a random match someone had in a FGC moment that might be genuinely funny (i'll provide an example in the post) or a combo video / tech / tournament clips from another player's perspective from another FG community, or a compilation of moments etc.
I've seen some pretty fantastic videos for many different fighting games from smaller socials that just flies under the radar that are legit gold mines and was only known about it until a large social user made it publicly known from reacting to it. I'm sure people would probably wonder on how reacting videos would benefit at all and the topic I'm approaching. So for start, reaction videos still does help exposure to an audience for that event or game (the game exposure) and bolster search results to a degree of that content genre including critique or just plain fun commentary of enjoyment. When people react to them and there is success, the original user who made that video would usually be more inclined to make more of it and importantly I feel: preserves those videos from being lost to time even with PoVs. The help of the algorithm. Especially Youtube.
I know people would bring up downsides that it's been said "chances they might be profiting off you buddy or you won't be credited" and so on. Especially far bigger socials where Youtube is a source of income for them which is understandable and I get it, and nothing you can do if it's out of self interest so I get it if it's chasing the money bag, but I still do believe most content creators are legit missing a gold mine from so many game contributions by the community from their respective games that aren't the big wigs popular titles, and I genuinely believe DOA fits in that category on the exposure that has to be appreciated and potentially shed some light from the memes of the FGC with the contributions people put here with examples of @Force_of_Nature or Ultima_Ivanov and many more.
Example 1 that should probably be more common. It's a Maximillian video on where I'm going with this (DOA video included in it which was Nunchaku's video):
Because Max reacted to Nunchaku's DOA video. In some capacity it has helped DOA as a game be put on the map temporarily in a positive light during that time period of influence even if it was a brief online match, genuinely believe there isn't enough of reactions. When I checked Nunchaku's original video by stats, it was at one point the top most played DOA video (which was good for DOA media interest) for a couple weeks over a bunch of Ryona medias. The fact that the outlet was what was needed to surpass speaks volumes of "holy fuck how can I get people to even see this game or even find info" if it's cluttered by randomness like a music video called DOA that has nothing to do with the series. Despite reaction videos has been a thing for years outside of gaming with random bits like politics, it's been a powerful way to keep things in the map of interest and influence in some way even for gaming. Influence can be good or bad sure, but sometimes the risk should be taken if you win the good bit.
Example 2 by Emery that should be more common:
And last example HungryBox which I think it's spot on. It's within his own Smash community, but hopefully getting what I mean here.
DOA is in a weird spot where it's been said the damage is done, it's too late, or lack of interest, but there's a lot of stuff that the community has done for years that is hidden in good work. This isn't a post to leech off your favorite Capcom streamer or vice-versa, or fighting for views vs Street Fighter because their content creators react to their own community and typically requires zero effort for an influence sustain. I'm not even a React-Video-Andy like that but if content like that were more common besides the big names, I think fighting games could easily be spread more without having to rely on sheer luck on playing the algorithm. Where am I going with this? dunno, maybe I rather not see a reaction video to drama between a Tekken player and SF player arguing with each other on which game is better when they could react to...
oh I dunno, Timmy's guaranteed sick ass combo from a low tier character with one overhead in an anime fighter. Thoughts.
