Team NINJA wasn’t the developer of Yaiba.

Spark Unlimited developed it but Team NINJA and Keiji Inafune were directly involved with the project and can also be held responsible for the shortcomings the game had.

My guess is that Yaiba characters or the costumes are coming back to DOA6. Could be wrong, but I really have a tough time believing the game is coming out again or getting a sequel of any kind.

get rid of the cartoonish pixel then it's good

Agreed. But I can at least appreciate what they did with the graphics.

Time for me to pack it up and go...maybe 2020 lol

It doesn't really say anything, but Team NINJA is definitely not doing anything with the series this year. They are working on DOA6, Nioh 2 and Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3; and I think there is still being work done for FF: Dissidia but I haven't updated myself on that game in a while.

I came back to the thread thinking NG has finally returned, but then I got a little bit too hype and my eyes skimmed through the "no" part from deathoftheninja because I was far away from my phone. As soon as I got close to my phone, saw the no, and I was like "noooooooooooooooooo".

On a side note, the original 1988 Arcade release of Ninja Gaiden is now out for the Nintendo Switch. Unlike the NES games, this one was a beat 'em up.

The backward compatibility now of NG2 and NG3RE has me diving back into my favorite game series again. My 360 died a while back so it had been a long time since I played my NG games. Finally decided to bite the bullet and get a used X1X. Man, I forgot how much I loved these games....

With my interest in NG rekindled, I am naturally thinking about NG4 like we all have for years now. With the recent release of the Nioh 2 alpha (another game I am super excited for), it got me thinking that a new NG is likely not too far away. The IP is just too important to Koei Tecmo for them to let languish much longer.... My suspicion is that a new NG has likely been in development already in some way. A few factors that lead to this feeling:
  • Team Ninja is a much larger team than it used to be and is not just doing one game at a time, but has a bunch of projects at various stages of development. I just don't think the whole top-tier action internal dev team is all just working on Nioh 2 only.

  • DOA6 is out and the major development work is over. So, we have a chunk of these developers likely working on something else...

  • Nioh 2 is already in alpha stage and is very much looking more like a Nioh 1.5 (not necessarily a bad thing), which is not surprising given the short turn around from Nioh 1. But, this indicates to me that Nioh 2's development has likely then not been the major, from the ground up effort the first game was requiring tons of developer staff.

  • NG2 and NG3RE now being backward compatible announcement, effectively putting Ninja Gaiden back on everyone's radar again.

  • And perhaps most importantly from a business perspective, the time has never been better for a new NG. The market has changed since the NG3 days. The success of God of War, DMC5 and Sekiro are going to add a significant push/motivation for Team Ninja (and the Koei Tecmo brass) to capitalize on the current market environment and get a challenging Ninja Gaiden back out there again while the timing is right.
Now I don't think a new Ninja Gaiden is right around the corner with Nioh 2 coming out late this year I'm guessing. But, I also don't think a new Ninja Gaiden is that far off.... In fact, I would not be surprised if we at least get an initial announcement of some kind later this year (maybe TGS?).
Maybe even a next-gen launch title in 2020?

Maybe all just wishful thinking as usual....but hey we can dream right? :)

TN has had Ninja Gaiden on the radar for years but I wouldn’t expect any announcement for some time. They’ve been working on quite a few projects lately and the team is split more than they ever have been before. Don’t forget MUA3, Dissidia, DoA ongoing development, Nioh, and whatever else Koei Tecmo has engaged them on.

I want it back more than most I’d wager but if we see it before 2021 I’d be shocked.

Yeah, I am afraid you are likely right on this. In the best case scenario, we see a new Ninja Gaiden late 2020 (for next-gen launch) but 2021 is more likely. But, as you said, NG has been on Team Ninja's radar for a while---the game has to be at least in some stage of development I am sure. I just think Team Ninja and Koei Tecmo need to be careful and not let Ninja Gaiden sit dormant for too much longer....not a smart business decision in my view.

Decided to revisit NGRE on RPCS3 for the PC

Notes
  1. Runs mostly at 60fps but can float around 40-60 [causes missed inputs]
  2. If you try to run higher than native resolution of 720p, the colour gets distorted like this but my god it's so much sharper haha [ ]
  3. Specs: Gtx 1070 i7-6700k @ 4.5ghz 16gb ram at 3200mhz

At least they know. Better late then never, I guess. Hopefully NG4 ends up being as great as Ninja Gaiden Black.
In one of the interviews I read today Hayashi said they had a discussion within team ninja about what They were good at before they made Nioh and improved on that for the sequel. Given the praise Nioh received for the combat and gameplay, I fully expect an awesome ninja gaiden game next from them. I just hope they don’t shove a bunch of RPG shit in it

Do you still have the source for that interview? I'd like to read it.

To me it's nice they acknowledge it, but the release could still be quite a few years down the line, so I'm not sure it's anything worth getting too excited about yet.

Unless they outright say "Ninja Gaiden is officially confirmed for PS/Xbox/PC!" etc. I really wouldn't get my hopes up. Just because they're aware doesn't mean anything.

Didn't they say before Yaiba came out that they were working on another Ninja Gaiden? Yeah... Nothing came of that.

I’d be surprised if we get anything before 2022 with them working on Nioh 2 and all 3 DLC packs .
I’m glad they took a break from NG honestly. NG3 and the spin-off Yaiba were disasters for many reasons. I think they’ve learned as much from those failures as they have from the success of Nioh.
I’ll be happy with another NG cameo in one of the Nioh 2 DLC’s for now
