Dead Or Alive 6 Builds On Franchise's Core Strengths While Renewing Focus On Inclusivity
Ohh boy... typical Inclusivity opinion from our "friends" from the main stream media.
The Dead or Alive franchise is infamous for its efforts to oversexualize its female fighters. That reputation has been helped along by the Dead or Alive: Xtreme spin-offs, a collection of titles that put all the women in skimpy bikinis as they play beach volleyball and seaside party games.
While it may be infamous to likes of the casual comments who wouldn't take the serious, the fellow tournament members that want the less sexualized approach, and the main stream media that has problem with how females are design which they spend their time writing hit pieces. Part of its sex appeal is what kept DOA5 going for 3 separate updates (including different consoles which has exclusive content), along with being able to afford $92 worth of Season Pass, over thousands worth of costume slots, having costume contest for Halloween, and with free to play version over 10 million downloads. A lot of this stuff is something that no fighting game could have ever reached.
Dead or Alive 6 is trying to do what its predecessor could not and de-emphasize the sex appeal of its female combatants while also making the gameplay more approachable.
Honestly, the only thing DOA6 should be following from its predecessor was it DLC lineup, because their serious approach clearly didn't work out for them considering what they've been doing with DLC. DOA's gameplay is already approachable compare to Tekken & 2D fighters, the only thing they did was add some auto combo. Fighting games just isn't the genre you can pick up and be automatically good at, even if it gave you amount of tutorials. De-emphasize the sex appeal may not last long once DLC comes to play, considering this opinion from gameinformer: "Of course we’re going to tone down at this point, but for downloadable content, we have to see what gamers really want, what their response is. Not all the gamers want the same thing, but we want to ask their opinions, all of them, and get feedback on it."

The boobs are smaller as opposed to before because we wanted the girls to appear more human.
That piece of an opinion (regardless it was Shimbori or mistranslation from Gamespot) was not cool. This is pure facepalm worthy.
He and his team want to make strides towards removing sexual fanservice from Dead or Alive, but they acknowledge that certain mechanics and aspects of the franchise are too ingrained in the series' DNA to abandon completely.
There is something clearly wrong with this opinion about "removing sexual fanservice", first of all the only thing they've been toning down was the "ridiculous breast jiggle physics". This whole "aspects of the franchise are too ingrained in the series' DNA to abandon" clearly feels like Gamespot doesn't completely understand to whats going on.
"Also, another reason: who doesn't love eSports?,"
That's really going to depend on your approach to eSports appeal, if it winds up changing or toning content down like Sex Appeal. I would be hating eSports, and I wouldn't video games to become mainstream. I don't want a repeat of what happen to SFV with the camera shots from the beta build (which were taken out) and when ESPN decide to do costume ban.
But Shimbori doesn't just want more of the eSports community in on the action, he wants the casual gaming audience to enjoy Dead or Alive 6 too.
All Shimbori needs to do is not mess with what made them DLC support in the first place, and continue to offer the same kind of content I'd guarantee this will make DOA6 successful.
