A punch based character can work only if done right. Rig is kick based and he gets the job done in DOA.

Thats partly because he still has some punches. Boxing is totally punch focused, the only way they can work is if they had some untrained kicks like punts and stomps but those would only be low kicks...

Prepare for a MR/Honoka hybrid next season that has giant boxing gloves next season as your punch based character. Only one outfit will be boxing relevant and the rest are gonna be the usual fetish stuff.

I knew you were gonna mention the fact that Rig has punches/chops but i didnt feel like editing my last comment.

Im pretty sure that if a boxer was added to doa(which i highly doubt)they would give him certain tools so he can keep up with other cast members. Hopefully not to much kicking.

This might sound weird but i prefer certain genders to have certain fighting styles. In the case of boxing, i would want the fighter to be a man.

Going back to the discussion of dlc costumes, is there any word yet on how many costumes this upcoming swimsuit pack will have? We know :naotora: will have one so that either means its a 16 pack with one doa girl getting nothing, or a 17 or 19 girl pack...

I'm not sure myself, but I believe both main and guest characters except Alpha will be included in this dlc. It'll be premiering next week so we'll see.

So it may be a 19 girl pack? Have they ever released a dlc pack with an odd number of costumes before? If theyre releasing one for all the girls, I can imagine they might do one for alpha as well then just so they have a 20 girl pack.

What's with the pack being 19 costumes? I know is a odd number, but I don't think it is a thing for them.

How about TJ Combo in Killer Instinct, he uses some kicks and knees as a boxer.

If it makes sense for the character, that can work, i mean, look at Steve from tekken; hes a pro boxer and even he has some foot stomps and a jumping punt but the most part, pressing the kick buttons for him is a sidestep but even then, hes a puncher

Tekken is different though, In DOA there is a hold system that basically demands both punch and kick attacks, even if a character has more than the other. If Naotora could only kick and this boxer character could only punch, they wouldn't get far in battle at all: instead of a 1/4 chance of getting held, you'll have a 1/3 chance, 3/6 if you wanna count all possible holds making it basically a 50/50 chance everytime, it would basically be like a psuedo 3 point hold system all over again for that character. Tekken can get away with it since there's no hold system aside from a low parry, and Steve already struggles against opponents with a high/mid parry or reversal which is already his weakness.

This is exactly why im asking just how punch focused character can possibly work. :naotora: is proof that they can make a character that specializes in one kind of strike (in her case its kicks) but punches are another thing entirely since boxing, the most well-known punching style has no kicks whatsoever and that would be the only righting style that a character use that justifies a punch based character

If they did use a boxer they'd have to just make him/her a heavyhitter, but then again a powerful character can't be too fast and boxing is known for being fast and gauging your hits, not just trying to waste all your energy because of it's focus on endurance. Plus Zack and Mila already use punching maneuvers of that of a boxer, it wouldn't be anything new.

I never did like the holding in DOA so it is best to keep boxers out of DOA. But i cant deny the fact that it would be cool to have a boxer in DOA.

Oh well, I'll settle with Steve and Dudley.

Tekken barely has a stun game and almost all attacks launch or knock you down, and the low parry is jank, and only certain characters have reversals and even those are very attack specific.

That's what I've been saying, boxers would stand absolutely no chance against an experienced ryu player since they can easily hold an punch they throw. Overall, only characters with a well rounded fighting style can work in doa.

I hate holds. I don't hold unless im absolutely sure what the opponent will do next.

Hell, i dont even like to parry in Tekken.

I usually just wait for an opponent to throw one out so I can just hi counter throw them, and if I'm being pressured I just try and wait and make a guess and I can usually escape. In tekken I only really hold with Anna since her reversal is so versatile.
