I don't get this logic at all...ever.
You stick a badass in a clown suit he doesn't somehow get less badass. Having him stay in clown suits for the duration of his time STILL doesn't stop him from kicking loads of ass or anything else.
I don't see Ryu being less threatening in a banana suit then him in his ridiculous Ninja-BDSM outfit, so how does this work past forcing the females to seem like they lose personality? Because it's still there and a strong person in personality and looks is still strong wearing whatever regardless.
I guess you guys taking the saying "Clothes make the Superman" a bit too far...
I know I'm just wasting my breath, but to sum it up; image is part of the identity.
If Batman switched to a clown costume, it wouldn't matter how much ass he kicks, he won't have the same reputation.
And in a fighting game, image and fighting style are the only identity markers present, so losing the image removes half the identity of characters. That's a big reason people aren't okay with "all characters have the same outfit".
If you were really okay with that, then maybe youd be okay with the entire doa roster being replaced with a single Mokujin/Charade character choice, but a lot of us are arguing against dlc slowly turning things into that situation.
Thats why it would have been okay for a fetish outfit here and there, but now its MOSTLY fetish outfits, with almost nothing that represents the characters themselves which is pissing me, and a lot of other people off.
On the clothes make the superman thing..strip the powers away first... well lets put it this way. When Steve Rogers ditched the red white and blue uniform for a blue and goals caped costume, he was no longer Captain America. He was now Nomad. When Clint Barton trades out the purple archers outfit for a black and yellow ninja getup, he was no longer Hawkeye. Now he's Ronin.
A characters signature look is a HUGE part if their identity. Variations are allowed, but their outfits generally stick to a definite style/theme.
For example. The Schoolgirl dlc, people like, because each is still tailored to suit the girls individual personalities. The rest? Not so much, because they are generic and just slapped on, to the point where they completely clash with the actual character.
Like Helena's outfits stick to an elegant, majestic feel. So the ones that are just fetishistic or sexy without being tailored to her are generally just awkward. Milas defaults are all sporty or practical. So the generically cute/sexy dlc doesn't fit her at all.
Like the new girly hairstyle on the generically cute/sexy outfits for Mila? That literally turns her into a completely different character, because its the total polar opposite of her.
You say costumes don't matter, but anyone who understands visual association would argue otherwise. I generally dress in what would be considered a more bkur collar style. Boots, work jeans, flannel button up, sleeveless undershirt, baseball/trucker cap.
When I overhaul my look, switch to dress shoes, pants, nice officer clothes, shave, and gel my hair, I am treated as if people can't recognize me at first.
Image matters, a LOT, and the dlc is/has diluted the girls' individual images.
