Dead or Alive 5: Last Round Press Release Reveals Pricing, DLC Details

Dead or Alive 5 Last Round was officially unveiled in Japan at the Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate Arcade
Fighting Carnival less than 48 hours ago. Shortly afterward, right before the top eight contenders
squared off at Summer Jam 8, Team NINJA Creative Director Tom Lee took the stage to introduce
North American audiences to the title and let everyone know the platforms the game would call home. Today we have the official unveiling and announcement of the title, along with some major additional information. The unveiling naturally includes the English announcement trailer, so be sure to check that out below before reading on for the details. Yes, that includes pricing.

The game will be launching on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One in Spring of 2015. Distribution avenues for the title will vary based on console generation. On PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, it will be available at retail in physical form and through Xbox Live and PlayStation Network as a digital download at a price of $39.99. On the previous generation consoles, the game will come in digital form only and will be priced at $29.99. All currently available characters, including Nyotengu who will see release beginning September 2, 2014, will return, and they will be even more customizable than before.

The new title will offer up over 300 costumes in the package right out of the gate, with new hairstyles and accessory options selectable as well. Perhaps most importantly, any DLC purchased for Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate will be transferable to Dead or Alive 5 Last Round. This will include cross-generation transfer of DLC, so all of you who have moved on to a shinier box under your TV or monitor will not need to worry about losing any purchased content.

I see your point, and i also very much understand they are a business and need to make money.

I guess my problem is that i feel a little taken advantage of. i bought original DOA5 and a good amount of DLC. Then i bought Ultimate and it came with DLC i already paid for. But a third time? Im not going to buy a new version of this game and only get a few extras along with everything ive already paid for anyway. I would hope they just leave the current DLC as paid and include new and original costumes for unlock and purchase. There should be something better for people who have sunk that kind of money into a game, not just oh you can buy it again with some additional features and all your old stuff too.

I dont want to sound like another one of those whiny people on the internet, i LOVE the DOA series and have supported it since the beginning. I just cant keep sinking money into different revisions of the same game. It saddens me to say this, but i think im going to sit this one out. (i say that now, watch me end up with it in hand day 1)

When people are playing LR and you're left with the CPU, you'll buy.

It sounds to me like they're trying to hype 300 costumes (which'll obviously include alot of the DLC as part of the main package) and graphics updates to make up for the lack of any real changes. It'd be nice if they gave us outfit customization in a more VF style, but that'd only be icing for a cake that i don't see us getting. However, it's really early, and they could impress us, but i'm not getting my hopes up when the first thing they're showing us is graphics and an obvious threat that what we're about to pay for (Nyotengu and new outfits) is already included and much cheaper in the next release.

I hope TN realizes that they're really bad at information releasing.

In my experience if a bunch of content is being sold individually at an incredibly high price, there is a very good chance it will be sold later packaged at a discounted price. That is the way markets tend to work, especially in this industry.

It shouldn't really be much of a surprise to anybody, but if it did catch you off guard then consider it a lesson in economics I suppose. To you, you might feel taken advantage of. To everyone else, they might feel like they are being taken care of finally. It's all about which end of the deal you choose to end up on and how badly you want to be the one who gets a certain type of service before anybody else.

Also worth noting, the amount of labor that goes into making system changes, adding new moves, animations, stages, art, etc is astounding. It's not cheap, these people have to feed their families. When you buy a new version of DOA you're not paying for the same stuff you bought before, you're paying for the continued development of a game you enjoy and the new content that has been created over the last year. Stop paying for that content and it will stop being made. Simple as that.

30-40 dollars a year is incredibly inexpensive for a hobby that keeps evolving.

I like what's going on don't get me wrong, and I LOVED the stage at the end, and the more penguins the better. I just really, really REALLY want to at least see Raidou return. He was the most evil character, even more evil than Bankotsubo.

If done right he could be a great matchup for @Brute and his Hayabusa.

We might be getting new characters

As much as I would like to see a new character there's no way we can take anything away from that interview. The first problem is the question was too vague and not just about new characters but also new stages and new outfits. Also I'm pretty sure SJ8's trailer was the version that didn't reveal any gameplay just the DOATEC HK stage with the TV screens so the info he said we should expect within the next couple of days is what we currently know now. :/

Edit: Okay am I going crazy or did they just now edit the video and are playing Forest BGM over top of the interview? O_O

I have both PS4 and X1 played on Xbox360 last gen and was always jealous of the sony guys beacuse they got that six axis control over the girls;) So i would like to have switched over to PS4. But i have boughten every piece of costume DLC there is and i mean everything. So there is now way im gonna lose that. Wish there were some way to transfer that over. But the X1s D pad is better anyways

I think the pricing is fair because they can't put it out as cheap as 19.99 for old gen and 29.99 for new gen, believe it or not consumers have more gratification in buying expensive products that they love...I took marketing in college.

This actually gives me an excuse now to go buy a ps4, see what you did there Team Ninja...just take my money.

To everyone i've pointed this out to, where's my 20 bucks? I called it that Raidou would be next.

Raidou is DoA's Seth or Shang Tsung. How about Shiden, instead?

This is my 2nd option of EXACTLY what I needed. I miss my DOA and now I can try out the new D-Pad to see how it flows as well as get better training for me personally(personal reasons). ^^
