Balance 240 vs 300 life

I'm fine with the current health setting, but I also wouldn't mind if it was lowered. I mean DOA5 had the health around 240ish so why not? Only thing I'd be concerned with is hold damage, since the hold received a buff in 5U.

I've found 240 breaks the game when playing as certain characters. If we were to switch to that as the standard some things would have to be tweaked. I stand by normal health. I could be pursuaded to say 260 or maybe 250 but 240 is jut a bit too low.

Someone just insulted me on the "competitive" Facebook group over this. This means I'm doing something right.

Characters like Leon and Sarah can already take a lot of life on 300, so on 240 they will be dangerous. Aside from that, hold damage has been buffed. 240 wouldn't work for those reasons alone.

Maybe the game just ain't for you my man.

He's saying that because doa has had 240 life for the past four games. Sweetrevenge said 240 isn't viable which implies that all previous doa games weren't viable, including 3.1 which is accepted to be a viable game.

Characters like Leon and Sarah can already take a lot of life on 300, so on 240 they will be dangerous. Aside from that, hold damage has been buffed. 240 wouldn't work for those reasons alone.

The point is to make characters dangerous and make it so you actually have to fear them. Hold damage is irrelevant because the high damage from throws strongly discourage holds attempts and getting hit by a hi-counter throw can take up to 50% or more life.

I can confirm everyone is dangerous in 240. It's not that the game is "not for me". The franchise worked perfectly in 240 before. Why are you people so scared about it now¿ In doa2, 3 and even 4 holds were stronger than the buffed 5U ones and the games were good (except 4 but my point still stands). Just read what people like @virtuaPAI and me already stated in several posts in this very thread. The issue goes way beyond how much damage this and that takes. It's a matter of playstyle, balance and what we do with what we have.

Trust me, characters that are a joke in 300 like Hitomi, Eliot, Tina and the like can be extremely scaryin 240 because how they can take a lot of life without relying on the stun-system, their vast amount of unsafe moves, etc. And the strong ones like Fu and Leon remain the same because as Matt said in a Facebook post, mathemathically they still need 2-3 guesses to win while the ones who needed 4-5 now need the same amount. Just do the math, test the game out in 240 while know WHAT THE HELL is happening in the screen and you'll see that we 240 supporters are right.

Everyone will be more 'dangerous' at 240 life as a by-product of having a lower life value. The potential issue is that several characters can suddenly become much more dangerous then others would from the life decrease. You can't honestly claim this would benefit every character reasonably equally.

I'm fine with whatever life personally (I'm leaning for 270 though if change has to happen), but further balance changes (in regard of universal throws/holds values/etc) need to happen then just lowering the life and calling it a day. That is if we don't want see the characters drastically indirectly buffed/nerfed and change the current meta-game.

240 life felt natural in the past games because those games didn't have the ton of gameplay changes/current balance we are currently stuck with at 5U.

No no no and no. I'm saying 240 isn't viable for doa5u as it is now. My statement was vague but I didn't think people would assume I'm talking about 240 being bad for every game. The hold damage got buffed in 5u yet you guys want less life than vanilla? 240 is stupid for ultimate
