Old School vs New School (Vote for New School here)
As you're all aware, The Fall Classic Tournament is being used as a DOA5U Launch event. One of the many special events taking place at the tournament will be an Old School Player vs New School player type of competition/tournament. Team Ninjas own Tom Lee has tasked me with the initial organization and creation of teams for this awesome event. Currently we've discussed both the possibility of 6v6 and 8v8 formats. Which one we choose to keep will be dependent on the time constraints at the tournament itself. The exact format of how the players will fight each other is still being ironed out.
In the mean time, we need you as the community to help decide and vote for who you think would put up a good show and also dominate. There will be two separate threads for voting (one for new school and the other for old school). You can vote for yourself (Only in the new school thread) but keep in mind that the community will voice their opinion of yes or no over you. So please come with thick skin should someone say "No you're absolute trash etc"
You may also only vote for players who have preregistered/guaranteed to go. I.E one more reason to preregister other than saving money. A list of who has preregistered/guaranteed to go thus far will be posted below.
I somewhat anticipate that a lot of the more popular players will be voted for and that's ok (especially for the old school thread) because they are generally considered the best of the best. But I also know that there are some players not as well known who are very talented who would like a shot at making the team. In this case, I will be leaving one(2) spot(s) open for each side that will be decided not on voting but instead a small 16 man online tournament. Yes online is laggy, but it's a simple medium that will allow you to at least demonstrate your skills. Signups for that will take place at a later date. (Note: this is subject to change as we may just have the 5(7) players who have already been voted for decide the final members from a listed pool of potential candidates.)
How do we decide whether or not you are an old school player or a new school player? This part is tricky because we've had such a huge gap between DOA's. Ideally old school players will be those that played competitively up to the closing of CGS in 08. This team is not limited to the United States. Being that this will be a global event, international players are considered candidates. I know some of you are on the cusp of that 2008 era so use your best judgment, be honest with yourself and if you have questions or suggestions PM me directly or take it to the Facebook group as I want to keep this thread focused on voting and discussion of who should play. Again all off topic replies will be deleted.
You will be allowed to vote for up to 4 players max. Giving an explanation on why you chose them, will give your vote far more weight than simply naming a player because then we/the community can only judge that player from his previous accolades. And if you don't list any, it doesn't work. I.E if you vote for Xcaliburbladez with no explanation, we will know why. He's an established player. Resume speaks for itself. Whereas if you vote for Joe down the street without explanation it will be far more difficult to weigh. You may post videos of matches as well. Use this as an opportunity to build a case. DO NOT SPAM THE THREAD THOUGH.
Voting will end and this thread will close on September 7th in effort to get this list to Tom Lee and the tournament organizers for proper hype, naming of captains, scheduling, distribution etc.
New school Players:
I spoke with XcaliburBladez at Summer Jam and he gave a list of recommended players he would like to see on the team:
Eman
CrazySteady
XcaliburBladez
Mr. Kwiggles
SawknikFox
Zakurye
Again keep in mind these are recommendations and not set in stone. Just suggestions to get the ball rolling. Although being the current champ of DOA5 and most likely captain of the team, Xcal’s words do carry weight. His decisions are based on who he knows is supposed to be in attendance and feels has the best chance to bring home the W.
I will be making periodic edits to this post as I gather more information from your responses.
