The Fall Classic Approaches...

Just over two months from now, the first Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate major will begin. Players have been finalizing travel itineraries, reserving rooms or places in them, and picking apart DoA5U trailers to find something to give them an initial leg-up on the competition; it all comes together on September 14th. There's also a little something going on September 13th for the early birds, but we'll get to that in a minute. All of the details for the main event itself can be found right here in the event thread. Head over, RSVP, post up your questions, and start building that hype!

But the most important thing you can do? Register! Either click that fancy red link or the giant banner up top to be taken right to where you need to be.

Registration opened just this week and, as is customary in the FGC, early registrants get in for a bit cheaper. If you register any time from now until August 12th, you get in for just $30 (venue) plus $10 per game. If you wait until after August 12th, you're looking at an increased venue fee of $40. If you decide to wait until the day of the tournament, you're looking at a very tight emergency registration window and an even higher venue fee. I'm not even going to write that in this article, though. If you're reading this, I'm sure you're already in there. While completing your registration, be sure to take note of TFC rules; with a five minute disqualification rule in effect across the board this event should run like greased lightning. If you don't read up on things like this, though, you may get a nasty surprise so take the opportunity to do so.

For those getting in on Friday the 13th (yeah, yeah...), Big E is going to be throwing a Team Bar Battle Tournament at the hotel bar (at the venue) and DoA5U is included in the game list. It's going from 6:00pm to 2:00am and team registration is $30. There is talk of drink and food specials (in order of importance) and the event should be an absolute blast. Get a team together and show up for a good time. Some of the most fun you can have at a tournament only happens when you or some of your friends have way too much (just enough?) to drink and you stick around to let the hilarity ensure.

Or you could show up with your two also-sober friends and mean business. I guess.

The success of the first Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate major is squarely in our own hands. We've been given top-flight treatment by the Tournament Organizers and consistently put on a solid show at east coast tournaments. We haven't had a major under 50 entrants in some time in this part of the country and the competition is always fierce. Given how many people have been saying they'll be there, we expect to easily surpass the 70+ we had at NEC last year. Breaking the 100-player mark would be a realistic goal, even. So get your registrations in, get your friends to register, start working out carpool plans, look up flights, talk to people about the room situation, and just generally get your shit together.

Let's make this our biggest and best event yet, FSD. To our friends at DoAWorld and other DoA community sites, this also includes you! I'm looking forward to seeing a lot of friends again and making some new ones, so post up here or in the event thread when you're registered. Let's get some plans for casuals, drinks, food, and good times going!

Hey, I'm estimating total costs of event hopping for it can be supported by my personal budget, heheh. How much dayly (3) meals are? What about other cost in adition to flight and hotel...? Does I have to online pay when web registering?

Meals are all over the place but I'd budget about US $30 per day for food to be safe. You can do much cheaper but only if you don't go out to eat. No other real costs aside from event venue and game fees. You definitely should pre-register online as it will save you money.

Travel costs are probably the biggest expense, those vary depending on the way you book tickets: Plane will probably be your biggest expense. Flying in on Thursday and leaving on Monday will give you the cheapest airfare days. From there it's up to deciding which airline and that'll change by the day.

Hotel cost by yourself would be dependent on the number of nights you stay at the hotel. You can check the official thread on TFS above for a link to the hotel room discount rate (if still available). You might be able to room with a member/members here and split your costs per night as well.

Meals also vary from $5 to $30 depending on your tastes, and if you end up getting 1 meal a day to 5. For cheap food and 3 meals a day you're looking at around $20-25.

So basically, just budget your money on how you feel you should. Venezuela is a bit of a hike no doubt. If you're able to make it out then I'll be happy to meet up with you and grab some food together.

Hey, I'm glad to finish my maths and realize if I save a bit of more money soon I'll able to go! :D So it's 90% sure I will join you all in TFC! :D

But I will need some help:
  1. I need to share a room in order to reduce hotel cost by a half (isn't?).
  2. What the hour of hotel check out/in is? I guess it's 12pm but I didn't found this info in web page. I need this info to choose departure and arrival hours of my airplane ticket.
  3. Is to stay until 17th worthy? I mean I don't want to be the only DOA player to stay especially because I'm not interested in playing any other fighting game at all. I respect all other fighting games, but the only I love and makes me travel across half continent is DOA.
  4. If so:
    1. Should I buy return flight for 18th? (I'm supposing night of 17th will be the last one at hotel...)
    2. Will it be possible to share room until 17th night?
  5. Finally, just to be sure, will night of 13th be the first one at hotel...?
Thank you very much in advance. :)

Name change, I see.

Anyway I'll go right down your list to be as efficient as possible.

1) Most people that do share have more than one other person. So if you hook up with more people the splits will naturally be lower. Less room of course but the cost savings are probably worth it since you're really just sleeping in the room. I'm pretty sure there are already a total of four in my room or I'd offer.

2) Hotel check-in is a pretty loose window. I believe at the venue it is 3pm, however late check-in is fine and if whoever you're rooming with has the room on their card you don't even need to check in. Just meet up with your roommate.

3) Most of us fly out Monday the 16th. The only real reason to stay until the 17th would be if the flight back is much cheaper than going back the 16th. If the savings (plus the extra night at the hotel) work out, go for it. Otherwise it's pretty standard practice to leave the day after finals for tournaments.

4) Already covered these. You'd have to chat with roommates but the group rate doesn't extend that far anyway.

5) The first night the group rate is available for the hotel is the 13th, so most likely. It is for a lot of people. Normally I fly in on Thursday but in this case the group rate didn't cover Thursday night.

Let me know if you have any additional questions or need some extra help.

Heheh :) Name change is another part of DOA experience which I decided to enjoy. :)

Do you know a trustable person looking for roomate? I don't know anybody yet... With 'trustable' I mean I won't get the bad surprise of being without shared room when I arrive... :S
