Every scene requires a guy like this
If you’ve ever been to a large Dead or Alive tournament you’ve probably seen this guy. Whether in street clothes or dressed as Bass he’s usually doing one of two things: Running the tournament brackets or talking about DOA. He wears a lot of hats and makes it look easy.

Search for a video from a major east coast Dead or Alive tournament on YouTube and more often than not he had a hand in the event. Type his name into that same search bar (Mr. Wah or Matt Ponton) and you’ll be treated to more than a few interviews where he showcases his knowledge of the game and articulates its strengths in a way that very few top level players can. He’s our main spokesman/organizer and I’m pretty certain he could choke out half the community before the cops arrive with a K9 unit.

California Love

The California scene was DEAD. In 2013 we finally saw the growth that would indicate that the scene has begun to gain traction in competitive community. While I cannot credit its sudden rise to prominence entirely to NukNuks - guys like Blood Burger and HajinShinobi deserve to share in that prestige - he can certainly claim a large chunk of it.

As far as NorCal DOA goes, NuKNuks has kept the ball rolling on the tournament front. The Best of Battle series has been instrumental in the forward momentum DOA has going in Cali, with Nuks work organizing and drumming up support a big reason. Recently, he and a few other California players made to North Carolina for The Fall Classic, bolstering our numbers and showing that DOA isn’t just an east coast affair.

A win here for Nykko would be a win for Cali.

Hell of a guy
This man has made a name for himself as one of the good guys in our community. Hes a kind face in the crowd, a helping hand when you need it; a welcome presence always. For a long time, Fred Campbell has been a great ambassador to the Dead or Alive community and the little things are what got him on this list but his big accomplishment is what plants his flag – just ask Dallaz.

Fred was instrumental in helping finance a trip for Texas player Dallaz to make it to a gathering in north Georgia, a service mostly foreign in the DOA community. Extraordinary acts of kindness of this type are common to Fred. If that’s not enough to get someone on this list, nothing is.

Tom Lee

Team Ninja
He represents Team Ninja at offline tournaments, big and small. As an employee of Tecmo Koei, he enhances our community by providing a direct link to Team Ninja, a welcome change of pace from the DOA4 days where financial support was minimal and gameplay feedback fell completely on deaf ears. Without his support - their support - the year may not have been what it was.

Team Ninja, using Lee as their emissary, provided monetary incentive for both The Fall Classic and Final Round 16. These two tournaments may have been successful without Team Ninjas support but in opening their billfold that realization was a guarantee. The notoriety from these tournaments has helped to move the ball forward for the competitive community in a significant way and, even if we won't be seeing Tom showing up to tournaments in 2014, cash bag in tow, we can still appreciate the many favors that were done for us by his presence - their presence - in 2013.
