Online was working fine yesterday but now it's not working and says I need to use an online pass >_>

How exactly does this work? What buttons do you press to put new accessories or take them away? And how do you put the glasses on? (I'm talking about the 360 btw) If anyone has like a list of the characters and their accessories that would be amazing :O
