Gen Fu is a master of Xingyi Liuhe Quan(Fatal Iron Fist) but retired the martial art because he felt it was too desctructive. For a while he quietly ran a chinese book store until one day his granddaughter, Mei Lin, became ill. There was a cure for her illness but it was very expensive. So Gen Fu decided to come out of retirement to save his grand daughters life.

Gen Fu failed to secure the prizxe money in the first tournament and entered the 2nd DOA tournament the moment it was announced. He mainy entered because he heard a rumor that the evil Tengu was lurking about in the tournament. Gen Fu planned on defeating the Tengu because according to legend the nose of the Tengu is said to cure any disease.

He was able to get his granddaughter the treatment after the 2nd tournament but she needed one more costly operation, so Gen Fu entered the 3rd tournament. Gen Fu fought vigourously thru the event and meet Zack in the grand finals. There Zack boasted that if he won and used the money to hit it big in Las Vegas, he would help Gen Fu. Gen Fu found this to be foolish and fougt with everything he had. Unfortunately he was defeated but Zack hit it big at the casino, and helped pay for Mei Lin's operation as he had promised.

Happy that his granddaughter was well Gen Fu retired once again and passed on the 4th DOA tournament. Gen Fu took in Eliot as his apprentice to pass on his legendary fighting style. Eliot would be the one who enters the 4th tournmanet to prove to Gen Fu that he is a worthy apprentice to carry on the Iron Fist.

[h2]Character Links[/h2]
Gen Fu has developed some relationships and rivalries with several characters in the first 3 DOA tournaments. His first rival/friend is Helena who quickly dismisses him as just a feeble old man but quickly comes to respect him. He also forms a rivalry with Leon who also thinks that Gen Fu would be a push over only to find he is quite a formidable foe. Some of Gen Fu's friends include Bass, Zack, and Eliot.

Bass has many times complained about his daughter, Tina, with Gen Fu between matches and Zack was helpful in paying for the final treatment of Mei Lin. Gen Fu also has an apprentince in Eliot, whom entered the 4th DOA tournament to prove himself. Eliot looks up to Gen Fu as sort of a fatherly figure.
