Leon is a mercenary who travels all over the world hunting for the next job.  Along his journey, he met and fell in love with a thief, Rolande.  The two were together for a long time until tragedy struck and Rolande died.  While in the arms of leon, her last dying words were, "the man I love, is the strongest in the world."

Leon taking heed to her dying words, leaves and enters the DOA Tournament to prove his strength and to himself that he is the strongest man Rolande fell in love with.  In the 2nd tournmanet Leon encounters Zack and recognizes him  from his past.  Leon also faces off against Gen Fu who promptly shows him his power  then defeats Leon.  Leon after his elimination has a dream about what Rolande says and set off to prepare for the next tournament.

After intense training in the desert, Leon entered the 3rd tournament filled with angst over his inability to win last time.  Leon fought hard to prove himself and to his former lover.  He later meets up with Lann Lee, who wanted to challenge Leon's strength.   Jann Lee won and leon retreated back to the desert.

Leon retreats to an Oasis where he buried Rolande to contemplate.  There he sees an illusion of Rolande who gives him a flower.  Rolande smiles then fades away and Leon reaches out.
