Lei Fang grew up in a very wealthy family that was very strict making Lei Fang concentrate on school. Because of this she sought after her independence and became very carefree. One day when she was around 13 years old, she was attacked by a group of thugs. Cornered in an alleyway it seemed she would become their victim when a stranger arrived and saved her. Her savior turned out to be Jann Lee. While she was very grateful for her rescue she felt as though she could've handled it and thus she picked up martial arts(Tai Chi Quan) to prove herself.
After mastering Tai Chi Quan, she entered the first DOA tournament in hopes of running into Jann Lee and proving how strong she is. She eventually does meet up with him but is defeated. This prompts her to train even harder and to adopt a new philosophy of how the power comes from the mind and can be channeled.
With her new found confidence she enters the 2nd DOA tournament with hopes of meeting and finally defeating Jann Lee. During her journey she meets Tine Armstrong, who has a completely different philosophy about strength all together. Afterwards lei Fang does get her rematch with Jann Lee, addressing him by stating that she mastered her martial art and was ready to face him as an equal. Unfortuantely Lei Fang is defeated once again and Jann Lee tells her that she is not even close to being ready to combat him.
After leaving the tournament in defeat once again, Lei Fang heads home and is more determined than ever to defeat Jann Lee. She focuses more on her martial art and is even called a prodigy by many people. She once again enters the DOA tournament more focused than ever to beat Jann Lee. She meets up him onec again and stats that she is ready to defeat him. However Lei Fang doesn't prove strong enough for Jann Lee and is once again sent him in defeat. After the tournament she returns home and fights off thugs who attempted to kidnap a young boy.
However always persistant, Lei Fang returns once again in seeking out and defeat Jann Lee. After entering the 4th DOA tournament Lei Fang gets into an arguement over a head of lettuce with Hitomi, and loses in the ensuing fight. Lei Fang also fights and beats Bass Armstrong after he goes into a rage after losing money at a casino. After her odd matchups, Lei Fang once again appears before Jann Lee, who isn't suprised to be facing her again. This time Lei Fang comes away victorious.
Victorious, Lei Fang retuns home via train. The train suddenly stops and a gentleman accidently falls into her and gropes her breasts. Angered by this, Lei Fang grabs a pole and kicks then man out the window and into a lake. After being appauled, She releasies that her bloss is unbuttoned and tries to cover up.

Lei Fang's one link is Jann Lee. Because of his saving her from the thugs back when she was younger, she was out to prove she was able to defend herself. She would seek him out every tournament and prove to him her strength. However each time she was sent home in defeat but would return again more determined than ever. it wasn't until the 4th tournament that she was able to finally beat him.
