I'm just gonna quote a post from SRK, because gameplay-wise, I feel the game is pretty fun and cool.
Yeah, it's a really great game. The game is very fast pace, feels realistic in regards to the fighting, the counter-hold risk vs rewards is so fun (probably more fun than focus attacking), and overall it's a very balanced fighter. I haven't seen any cheap shots, any broken tiers, or broken glitches that really break the game. There's one infinite with Mila, but that'll get patched soon.

On a side note, this is how I feel about this game....

It's a solid game overall, and it's like, you can just feel that it's a great game. When you lose, you actually feel the motivation to step up, train your combos/mixups, and play again and win. When you also lose, you feel this dying desire to keep playing and get better.

You also feel like there's so much room for improvement, and there's no time to waste, as you must get ahead and fight to get good. I don't know, it's like you have good chemistry with this game, and everything resonates with you. I sure as hell didn't feel this desire to devote myself when I was playing SFxT.....

Also, you're not complaining about lame fireball spamming, lame divekick pressures, or lame teleports when you had a knockdown on your opponent. No X Factors, no Ultras, no comeback mechanics, none of that. Just pure fighting.

Pretty sick game. Fair, balanced, and nothing to abuse. It's all up to the fighter, not the character that is being used. So if any of you guys feel something similar to what I said above, then that's how you know this game is a solid and great game.

Now voice your opinion so far on the game! Feel free to share how you feel regarding the tiers (if there is any....), mixups, strategies, overall balance, and fundamentals.

Also, share where you might see this game in the next 1 or 2 years. will the community grow? or will it stay as is? will it get some tourney limelight? will it make it to EVO? what do you think?

Well we already have a topic discussing tiers and its to early in my opinion to know much this community will grow. I just watch the SRK podcast with PL (which was great by the way) and i like the part they brought up about the VF community embracing the game. I really do hope both the VF and DOA community can come together because me personally i really do enjoy both franchises.

My favorite 3D fighting games this gen are VF5FS and DOA5. This game has a lot of potential so i really do hope it takes off and DOA5 gets the recognition it deserves.

I agree! It's too early to tell, and it isn't to late to take an educational optimistic guess also. Right?

In any case, GGs. It was kinda funny bumping into you on Ranked Match. You got a pretty good Mila, I gotta learn how to escape those UFC takedowns. Other than that, that was a fun 1v1 session.I probably wouldn't get into VF5. It looks cool and all but I'm good with just DoA5. How long you been playing 3D fighters, btw?

Back on topic, this game will grow. I just know it will. It's just having the same "launch reception" that 3rd Strike had.

People were playing DOA 4 online all the way until DOA 5's launch, and that game was bad. We have a very strong online following that slowly converts to offline players over time, so interest will never die out completely.

We stopped ourselves from playing the game last time, and that was mostly due to it simply being bad. Had we actually liked the game, growth would have continued unchecked. Casuals get into the game like crazy.

It NEEDS a better netcode though. Online play is the strongest recruitment tool and when it sucks, we have issues.

So far its just as good as I thought and TN deserves my respect. However, there are somethings I don't like & somethings
I have to need get use to. For ex: the controls feel awkward at first, I don't know but it feels so what stiff which makes somemoves like Hitomi's
:3::3::P: & Kasumi's :3::3::K: hard as shit to pull off and I fucking hate when the CPU can grab me automatically because of the stiff controls is so retarded. But now I've gotting used to the controls so they no longer feel stiff......still having a hard time excutting those damn moves lol. Anyway, DOA5 is one of the best fighting games this year and I think the reason why this game is so great is because the professional DOA players & the whole community keeping the DOA series alive.:) without us supporting the series, it would had been dead a long time ago. o_O
P.S. I take back all the terrible things I said about TN back then, they are the best & their effort they put into DOA5 prove to us that they don't need Itagaki to take the series in the right direction. ;)

Edit: My friends will be participating into buying DOA5 pretty soon. I have to say this, 7 years of waiting is worth it. ;)

I'm smitten by Dead or Alive 5 as a whole. It looks stunning, the moves are brutal, it plays at a blistering pace & it's actually also a real joy to watch as a spectator. I think the whole 'Fighting Entertainment' sums up this game pretty accurately as there never seems to be a dull moment when i play the game. Furthermore, every time we have family gatherings or parties everyone young & old seems to enjoy this game when they come over, be it playing it or watching it, which speaks for itself.

I guess, like in every game there is always the little things to cherry pick at & developer decisions that leave you confused. In DoA5's case that being the exclusion of team battle. I could also ask why they left out Leon & why couldn't we have more costumes, but it is what it is & for the most part I reckon the game is great. I feel i got my money's worth & at the end of the day was left satisfied with the final product.

Where do i see the game in the future? Most probably still burning in my console, this will be a game that will keep me coming back for years to come i believe much like the Tekkens, Soul Calibur's, Virtua Fighter's, Street Fighters & those crazy Neo Geo MUGEN 2D beat em up's I've got somewhere around collecting dust in the attic. Finally, i think community growth will only get stronger as the fanbase builds & i think part of that will be due to the fact that the DoA franchise now features VF characters which will be inviting to VF fans as well.

I think it's a bit of a "duh" moment to read that losing made him want to step up his game. That's sort of intrinsic to fighting game players as a whole. We only lack that motivation if we think a game sucks.

I've said this before. I'll say it again.

This is my first DOA game, and it has surpassed my expectations.

Firstly, for once in my none-too-long history with fighting games, my main IS the character I got the best vibes from in the trailers (thanks, Mila!), but at the same time, there isn't a character I hate playing. Even Bass, the grappler, is fun as hell to play, and I never liked playing grapplers before.

Secondly, despite the old-timey flak this series gets for its fanservice, I didn't find it that overwhelming when I started playing. What I got was a game with a simple, not-too-thought-provoking story built around some very strong gameplay, with voice acting to back it up. I tried switching between the JP/ENG voices, and I find both are solid, but I stick with the ENG because I can then understand what people are saying without subtitles, and because of a lack of squeaky voices.

Finally, I wanted to try and get my friends to try and play something other than MK9, SSBB, and P4A. This is simple enough to pick up and wing it, but still allow those who actually buy the game to improve amongst our peers.

That said, I hope this game stays competitive until DOA6 is announced, and by then I can hope Mila will actually get to have a decent story (Mila vs Bass in-story, plz)

I'm enjoying the game thus far but the netcode REALLY needs to be fixed. The group of friends that I usually play with have good connection with each other when we play Soul Calibur V (which has great netcode) and other games as well. This is definitely not my first DOA game but for them it was their first and I got them really hyped up for the game. They love the game but with the way the online is we can't even fully enjoy the game like we really wanted to. The online is sadly the only disappointing part of this game (and a few minor bugs). One of the friends I play with, he and I have good connection with each other during fights and barely have any lag issues. But the other friend (that usually has pretty good connection on other games) lags like crazy. They are both from Canada while I am here in the U.S.

I don't understand how the net-code can be so bad in this game. It's been a long time since I've had lag this much in a game. I just hate that my friends and I can't get the full satisfaction that we were hoping to get out of this game while playing together. I got them so hyped but we can barely even play together. Oh, and I'm also really disappointed that they removed the online-tag 2V2 feature. If TTT2 can have the feature online, why can't DOA? Team Ninja needs to really do something about their net-coding and servers.

I honestly don't really care about those "rare" costumes for the three females but for some fans who really want them, Lisa's is just impossible to get, legitly that is (no continues, seriously? LOL). I see people raging on other community sites about it. They need to do something about that.

The question is simple; are you and your friends using a wired connection, or wireless?

On topic, this is my first DoA game I ever played. I did in fact play DoAU and DoA3 but that was only 1 or 2 times just for fun.... never took it serious. I come from a SSF4 tourney based background, so this 3D stuff is totally new to me, yet there's a lot of Street Fighter stuff that I tend to mix it up with in this game. Thanks to SF, I'm more confident in new fighters.

In any case, I also agree with someone who said above. "It's only when the game sucks, that we lack motivation to get good at it."

2 of us use wireless( I use wireless but I have good connection) but both of us have great connection when we fight each other. It's only bad with the other person who lives in the same region as the person I have good connection with. He also has bad connection with her. But when we play other fighting games, the connection is fine and we have no interruptions.

I feel that it's a great addition to the series. Aside from lag, which I hear is one of their main priorities where patching is concerned, most everything in this game feels like a step in the right direction. I'm not saying it's perfect, but it's certainly fun.

You shouldn't use wireless at all, it'll make a huge difference trust me.

I think I played you before online too... is your name like BlasianBrn or something? I could've sworn I saw your name but it was like shorter spelled, perhaps something like that.

Unavoidable at the moment and I've used wired in the past when I lived at a different house so I know the difference. Either way, I have good connection on everything else I play and no one complains about MY connection. I can watch videos online on high quality on my computer without any buffering pauses, and wireless isn't the problem, it's DOA5's netcode.

I'm loving DOA5 ATM. I got off to a rough start at first, not being able to get an online match for some strange reason. After that around 20% of my match attempts were successful, now I have a 95% rate and I've only seen lag in lobbies. I'm kind of disappointed that my main Lisa didn't have any playable parts in the story, and I really didn't like how she went out with a bang (see what I did there?). Overall I've had an above average experience with the game.

I am having a blast playing the game. I have unlocked everything except Lisa's rare on survival and I am still pumped.

The only two things I would really like to see fixed is the language reseting to english all the time and the online matchmaking- it takes too long.

Other than that though, its the best game I've played in years. I'm still stoked.

Even if my first fighting game ever was DoA2 on ps2, I never actually played it seriously, but I still played it a lot as a kid, probably as much as DmC3 which I played for about a year everytime I was home(I would have played more if I didn't lose my copy of doa2...). I moved to 2D fighters and tried to play them seriously when I was a little older and it took me a lot of time to understand every basics, I started out with SSF4, then moved to BB, then to MvC3. I hardly ever touched a 3D fighting game but that really didn't bother me when I first played DoA5, I kinda felt at home lol. I've been having an absolute blast playing it, and character loyalty was still there (Jann Lee was the second character I used the most, after Ein.) and decided to use Jann as my main char for this game, haven't planned on switching to another char and probably won't, I'll have a second char though for when I'll want to play 1v1 tag teams (that'll probably be Pai-Chan) but otherwise I've been having fun just playing him, even if I did try out every characters in training mode, except Christie and Eliot because their command trainings are worse than Sarah and Akira's one to me. So far online has been pretty good most of the time, had only one extremely laggy match and only a few laggy matches, otherwise it's been smooth the whole time.

So hopefully I'll just continue improving, this game is one I want to improve in the most and I'll also try to get in local tourneys whenever I can to support my local community, if there's one lol.

LOVE DOA5!! It is soo fun!! Everytime I play it, I think how is this not the best fighter ever? I'm sure that could be answered with some blablabla crap, but I play all the fighters, and this is by far the most enjoyable fighter ever. That is saying a lot, cause I had a blast with VF5R, and TTT2. I want to play TTT2 some more too, but I just can't get myself to eject DOA5. There are things I would have improved here and there, but that could be said with every fighting game. Even VF5, soo. I agree with Rikuto about the online though.

Love it.
The game looks great and each fighter is fun to use.
My buddies and I who all played DOA 4 have had lobbies of up to 8 people and no real issues.
Once all the bug fixes are put in, it'll be even better.
