About morons online

I don't know if it's just me, but it seems like DOA5 is one of the few fighting games where people act like morons whether you win or lose.
I have never seen another fighting game where if you lose, people abuse ground attacks, yet when you win, people find a million excuses to complain as to why you are a scrub and how you winning was unfair or cheap.
Don't get me wrong, it does happen in fighting games, I remember when I was playing SCV a lot that people used to taunt after winning and with Nightmare they used to stab you on the ground, but players on DOA5 seem to take this to another level entirely.
It also seems that most of the people that do this are just morons in general. Always criticizing the way you play, saying you spam too much or abuse moves and how that shows little skill.

Is it just me, or does this mostly just happen in DOA5?

Well, I see you main Mila, and although I don't see her criticized so much on the boards, I get it constantly online while playing her, though I never got anything negative when I had played Hayabusa. She's different, and often requires a different approach to attack her and defend against her. Most aren't really used to it and fall for the same tricks over and over again, and then they call the Mila player a spammer, or cheap character for punishing them constantly.

Yes, I find this to happen all the time when I use Mila. People just don't know how to think during a match so they'd rather bitch and deflect afterwards.

I can't say for sure from my personal experience whether it's mostly a DOA5 thing or not as i seem to get players like that in alot of fighting games; be it TTT2 or Soul Calibur but i understand where you're coming from when you get opponents that abuse your opponents body after they've won (even after a perfect win). I class myself as a fairly clean online player, if i win that's great, if lose i humbly accept that i wasn't good enough for my opponent & i need to lift my game. That's just part of how a fighting game works, you won't win them all & you shouldn't expect to win them all. If i lose i accept bitter defeat, if i win i bask in my own glory without sending any ego-stroking messages other than a simple "Bad luck champ"

But as you mentioned it's the little messages & comments that rip into your victory that go abit far i reckon. I remember playing online when i first got the game (communicating via headset) & winning a match with two perfect's both round counts, something which almost never happens for me lol, & the other guy on the mic was saying i only won that match because i lack skill & my play-style is cheap & spammy, in which i replied: "Not lack of skill, spam or cheap play-style, but samurai spirit my friend.................samurai spirit"

A distinct lack of control over the match makes most competitive individuals angry.

In the case of winning, they are happy to have won, however when you're grounded and cannot fight back it is in fact the first time during the match they are in full control... thus they take advantage of it on an emotional level and beat the shit out of you. I empathize with them, honestly.

In the case of losing, they have no other recourse other than to remain silent, but the lack of control adds more agitation to the scenario than most other fighters. I will admit though, I have gotten far, far less hatemail in DOA 5 than I did in DOA2U and DOA 4. This might simply be due to the fact that I'm "known" now, but I'm not really sure how others are doing in that regard so it's hard to say.

Lucky you. I get hatemail and taunts and ground smacks all the time playing as Ryu. Some characters people just get all pissy when they have to fight 'em. Both Ryu and Mila seem to fit into this category, for whatever reason.

Seriously, this is the first fighting game where I have won and got hate mail for winning by playing defensively. wtf I've played a lot of different fighting games but I have never heard so much bitching about blocking and spacing so much. this has happen to me in other games but no where as frequent in this game. I dont care if spacing and throwing pokes is wrong in others players eyes, i play to win not please morons.

Yup, I always see Mila getting criticized due to me focusing on grab looping. The thing is, if I know the person is going to block, why the hell should I throw a strike? I know some Eliot player with a mic was getting really pissed off because I was grabbing the hell out of him over and over again. I did that because everytime I went for a strike, he would usually hold the kick/punch and because he blocked a lot. Then all of a sudden he says that I am not fighting and that I am playing cheap. Pfft, I must have landed like 3 CB's in each round.
It's always when I grab a lot. It seems like most ppl have some hatred towards grabbing.

Well, yeah. Online Mila's grabs are very hard/next to impossible to shake out of. They take a decade or so to finish, they look about as interesting as watching paint dry, and until they wrap up, the battle is effectively put on pause.

Not saying it's justified to be a sore loser or whine about your play strategy, but it is annoying. If you use that tactic, which you're perfectly within your right to do, just expect salty mother fuckers to give you flak for it.

edit: If I were them, I'd just start using high crush attacks more. Wouldn't guarantee a win or anything, but it would limit Mila's holds a lot.

I'm not "known", and I don't get any hatemail.

Heck, even back in the DOA4 days when I wasn't known, I didn't get any hatemail.

how do people not like getting hatemail? its like a badge of honor for me and i revel in the bitter butt hurt drivel that some of these losers spew out over getting beat by a better player in a videogame, hell my psn tags sole purpose is to enrage these doofuses even more. can't count how much hatemail i get for beating people with eliot. if i know u spam mids u bet your scrubby laggy little ass im gonna spam his mid parry on you, if i know ur constantly spam random counters every time i stun you, your gonna get hi-counter throw launched into my 40% damage bnb juggle. i play to win and in the words of malcom x i'll do it by "any means necessary" .

People are just flat out pathetic online. I go into lobbies land say a 12 win streak or so, I don't taunt or beat people about after KO, I am as respectful as possible when dealing with other players. But as soon as I lose one match the person I lost to goes out of their way to be a c**t to me in return.

I can't empathise with the mentality of someone feels the need to be a dick to someone who is being friendly to them.

It's funny to me. I never taunt or overkill but 2 times out of 3 someone manages to squeak out a win on my fresh Kokoro and they think they're T.O. I just whip out Alpha and do everything in my power to annoy them. That's usually when the hate mail comes

You obviously haven't played enough fighting games.

People tend to act like morons in any fighter online.
I have played quite a few. Yes there are a few people who act like morons, but DOA5 has by far the largest amount of them IMO.
It's got to the point where I have to make sure I win every match with randoms because if I lose, I have to hear this whole rant about how bad my strategy fails and how I'm a fucking noob spammer. Then again, I hear that if I win anyway, but at least I can fire back.
@Brute: No they aren't... just low grab or block low, or even abuse low counter and you will avoid the grabs.

I have yet to get any hatemail in DOA5. Not that I'm that good, but I'm of similar skill level in other fighters and I've received a fair amount of hate in those games (hell, even in Virtual-On).

Strange, I figured Kokopuff players usually get hatemail considering her attacks are safe on block. Sigh... maybe we Mila players are just unlucky.

I'm not as aggressive as I should be with Kokopuff, and I crumple under a good pressure game.

However, I'm surprised I don't get hatemail for my throw spamming.

No they aren't what?

And I know those things will avoid those types of grabs, but you can't do that the entire match. Eventually you have to get up, and chances are if you're throwing out throws like porno flyers on the Vegas strip, you will get caught by one every so often. I could've sworn I already articulated that.

Kokoro can be aggravating, but at least her attacks are fast (Mila's srikes are, generally as well, which actually lends to her aggravation. but at leas koko doesn't have those prolonged grapples) and visually pleasing. It's how Mila goes about her game, not the game itself, that annoys people.

I don't have any problem with overkill/taunts on DOA5 since its nothing compared to what we would do on SCV but people do complain a lot when they lose on DOA. When ever I'm in a lobby and beat someone 90% of the time they bitch and moan about something in the text box.
