My initial impressions based on about 20 plus hours of game play online and offline.
Pros
*Great looking game.
*Game play is not as mash friendly.
*Best Story mode of the DOA series
* Game keeps track of all your stats on and offline.
*Having VF characters in the game.
*Animation is much improved
*Improved game A.I
Cons
*Online play is mixed bag. When its lag free its great. When it lags your screwed.
* Game tends to stutter.Usually its early and in the middle of the match I play on the PS3 version.
*Being connected online while playing offline makes offline play slightly laggy. I don't know if anyone else had noticed this. Usually when I'm not signed in on PSN offline plays much smoother than when I'm signed in.
*VF players using characters like Sarah and Pai has to work a lot harder in DOA5 than VF 5 to earn their damage.
*Random glitches. Glitchiest DOA game of all time.
*Game play is not mash friendly lol. Better animation means move execution needs to be precise.
*Improved game A.I. is telepathic when it comes to counter holds.
*IMHO the Power Blow system is not really needed. I know it was TN's way of trying to make the game accessible and give noobs a chance to pull out victories. From my experience it just adds another weapon for the really good players to beat you even worse than they did before.
Overall I give the game an 8 out of 10. Usually with DOA games they are the first games I put in my console. And play them for hours. I'm sad to say DOA 5 seems less fun and more like work when I play it offline and online. Fact is that I am an older gamer and my best fighting game playing days are behind me. Even still I find myself playing games like Mass Effect 3, Borderlands 2, and WWE 13 with my nephew and neighbors more enjoyable.
Things I liked about DOA(The stun heavy game play) now I find slightly annoying. But that's because I have been playing other fighting games since my DOA2 Ultimate and DOA 4 prime competitive days. I've been playing a lot of Tekken,SC, and VF since then.
DOA 5 just lacks polish. Its basically a reboot for the series. DOA 5 has a new graphics engine, improved animation, and an upgrade in game play. But it is still DOA at its core.
