...She didn't? I thought Crazy Steady Vs. Vanessa was the Grand Final. Then again, I wasn't able to watch anything past that. I just assumed that was it.

You cant assume nothing nowadays....remember that.

Well.. If you count how many times that winning Jann Lee player (Ryujin was it?) got back into advantage by holding just after being stunned, and then beating the crap out of the attacking player, it does look like it can definitely undermine the attacker if done correctly, which sucks... Tons of people did it with the low hold too.
Yeah, I mean, it's still possible but stuns are longer than you'd think. I was trying to play the game like DOA4, spamming counter and such, and they came out maybe less than 50% of the time. I was also watching some players championing DOA4's style of play getting frustrated that they couldn't counter whenever they wanted, including the beginning of a combo. They were not loving 5, lol.

I'm also wondering though if it was the PS3 version causing a little bit of that though since it seemed to be lagging inputs when I was playing it. I was asking other players what they thought and a few said they also noticed that something felt off going from the 360 stations to the PS3 ones. And it was the same deal with both stick and pad on both systems so the type of controller didn't seem to impact it.

Or we could all just be imagining it! :) (and that's a real possibility, getting intimate time with 5 on either console wasn't that easy. I'd assume of course that any disparities between the two versions wouldn't be present in the final, optimized build)

Overall though, I'd say to think of the game as a true sequel to what DOA2U was. It feels almost the same, along with the added improvements of the new stun system, more access to juggles, CB's, PB's, and side-stepping. Even if it's not perfect, it's definitely not DOA4 and it still feels better, more solid, and packed with potential than every DOA I've ever played (all but 3.1 and DOAD).

This is so hard for me to watch again... I completely cracked. Lei's always been a weak match-up for me and I didn't get enough time to test out Kokoro properly. I also don't know why I was rushing him down when I know that my specialty lies in playing more defensively and controlling space. My first tournament though! Should there be any future tournaments along the CA coast, I'll certainly be there. I want DOA5 to have a presence!

Also, Major props to DrDogg for staying calm, collected, and exceptionally friendly despite how many directions he was being pulled in for the duration of the tournament. He did a great job making sure issues were taken care of while being there for newcomers like myself to ensure the experience was as welcoming as can be.

Because of you Dogg, I had a complete blast and I felt that I belonged at the tournament amongst even more skilled players than me. I know I won't be shy attending any events in the future.

Thanks! I hope your voice heals up nicely. ;)

I also noticed lag at E3 when I was playing the PS3 version. I shrugged it off on the TV. The Xbox version was fine.

Adding to what Sorwah said, just look at each tournament as a learning experience. Prepare as well as you can going in, play your best while there, discuss the game with other players, then when you return home, think back on your matches to identify areas you may need to work on, things you could've done better, bad matchups (and what you may want to do about 'em), etc., etc. And most importantly ...

That's exactly what I've been doing today, going over the match myself, and then with my friends. I feel like I did learn a lot about how I play in just that one match. I'm excited to get to another tournament soon. I just hope DOA5 can eke out a scene for itself with its improvements this time around. This is the game I want to compete in.

I've been looking at mine too. I think I wasn't that familiar with DOA5 because I didn't get a hang of Ayane's new combos, Hitomi's attacks, and the new mechanics of DOA5 and I was also really nervous considering it was my first match, it was streamed live, and it was against Vanessa, whom I looked up to in the DOA community.

Also when Crazy Steady almost beat Vanessa in one match, he should have won. I do not understand why he did not attack her while he had her in the air. One kick was all he needed with Sarah to win the match. But oh well.
I'm pretty sure it was because he didn't realize Sarah's somersault kick is a launcher in DOA5, which is not the case in VF5FS. I was thinking the same thing too when i watched the match.

Overall, I enjoyed the tournament immensely. It was very exciting and fun to watch. Crazysteady impressed me greatly with his Sarah; she is beast!

Kudos to everyone involved.
