"Promise me, you won't tell anyone" Honoka General Discussion

Do we have a consensus on her¿ I've been learning her since the game came out on PS4 and the more I play her, the more options I find. I thought she was shit at first because of the damage (on 300) and poor reach but I've been able to work around those and now I enjoy playing Noka more than Raidou.

Good damage, shit range, gimmicky mixups with okay pressure, below-average tracking and okay (borderline below average) safety. No true throw punish.

You can space and get in with 4K and H+K, but don't expect much. 4K is good since it's somewhat of a frame trap (not really) for characters with i10 or slower jabs. You must stay in your opponent's face if you want to get any sort of damage with her. Stun-launch game would be my recommendation since her mixups aren't very strong.

Whiff punishment is nowhere near as good as it could be since her 3H+K and 236P doesn't have Hitomi's range. Stance transitions on hit make her mixups far less useful than they could be. Her crushes are okay - 2P and 1P don't have good range, but 214P+K and 4P+K make up for it.

If tiers are considered, she's most likely lower mid tier, so that would be C right? The damage is decent, the speed is good, but her range is what really holds her back. She has to be up close and personal to do anything, and against characters that can space, she will struggle. However, I like her because she has the gimmicky mix up pressure going for her, like @Saber stated. Also, like stated above me, stun launch is the best way to play her, because most of her damage comes from the juggles. My personal favorite juggle is 8K > K > P+K > P+K, if only because she incorporates Brad Wong's moves in the juggle. Though I believe the most damaging juggle off CB is 8K > 4PK > P+KKK (for lights and mids) and 8K > 4PK > 6K2K. On CB, however, I do also like to use 33K as a launcher in place of 8K to do additional damage OR do 33K > 6H+K > K > 2P+K46P (Eliot version).

The highest damage CB juggle is actually:
4P+K > BT K > 6H+K~K > 2P+K46P (Eliot). Shame it only works on lightweights.

2nd highest damage would be:
8K > K > P+K > BT K > P+KPP which is 3 points less than the above juggle (also only works on Lights). I prefer this one since it avoids having to do 2P+K46P which comes out for me pretty inconsistently (I haven't played Honoka in a while).

On mids, the highest damage CB juggle is:
8K > K > P+K > BT K > 2P+K46P (Eliot). It's the same as the above juggle but with a different ender.

One thing I want changed about Honoka is to remove the BT K wallsplat property. The wall detection is far too much, which prematurely end my juggles more often than it should.

Just don't expect stance transitions to happen much in neutral game since the important onces require a hit. In fact, I've become much better with her since I started changing stances once I fully know it's gonna work (juggles).

There is like, no high level play of this character anywhere. The videos I do see of Honoka aren't really all the impressive to me either.

Well, there are at least two reasons for that. The first is that the character has only been in DOA for five months, and fully developing a character may take more time than that. The second reason is that you don't see any Honoka players at all in tournaments. She's just not represented enough by the high level players. I'm also curious what your definition of impressive is. What do you think of the Honoka match in this video (second match, starts at 2:53)? Sure it is an online match, but there wasn't much lag at all.

Do you think to make something for it next Sunday? ;)
Ahaha, Kronin. I don't think so. One reason for this is that the tournament console is x360 and I have been playing primarily on my Xbox One. Since I don't have Honoka on x360, I'm unsure how well I do with Honoka on an x360 controller. Especially her 2P+K4(6P). On my Xbox One controller I can pull it off effortlessly, but I'm not sure how that will go on my x360 controller.

Because I like being special. Now I won't feel special, so I'll just use Ayane like everyone else.
Well everyone plays differently so regardless of who you main, the way you approach mus will always be different...Just look at how Kwiggles and SFox play Rachel and Christie. They are training partners but they play both of those characters differently. Same with me playing Rachel, the way I play her is very different than the way the both of them play her. So you should play whoever you want

I agree with splslick. You're still special, since everyone has a unique playstyle. Nobody plays Honoka like you do. You shouldn't not use a character because others do if you like to play Honoka.
