If that's the case, then it should provide incentive for people to design costumes for characters like Zack and Jacky since they'll stand a better chance of getting their costume made lol

Practicality of a costume for fighting is almost always disregarded. It's not like TN needed 100 different variations of a karate gi and distribute it among the characters.
How does a "paying homage" or "inspired from" entry becomes border copyright?

Well it'd be hard to fight in a bannana costume, especially one facing fowards. I meant practicality from a programming point of view. Not that I dont like the Bannana costume.
Maybe copyright was a bit too strong and I haven't looked at every costume, but i've seen a few that could be classed as a "bit too on the nose" with how close they resemble others from other media. I mean heck even mine could be considered a bit too close to Geri Halliwells outfit..kinda.

Hmm not bad
They have others in the game with constant clipping issues and weird bending properties. If it's on a sexy, half-naked girl, they couldn't care less about such things, so I'm hoping they won't here, either.
Also, Akira is special in that I always felt like his fighting style was well-sited for a banana suit. His idle posture will give him the silhouette of a crescent moon, and he typically stands with his back straight, even when ducking. That is ideal posture for a banana suit. I don't think it would cause too many problems, or look particularly odd (aside from the obvious being a banana).
@ the speculation, if Team Ninja is going to let the audience vote. Maybe, but I'm pretty sure they'll only let people vote on a preselection of costumes. TN knows the best, what costumes will sell and will work in the game...and which ones not (even if they look amazing/interesting/unique). In the marketing world it is a well known fact, that popularity contests judged by the average consumer, do not necessarily translate into good sales in the end.
Apart from a maybe-consumer vote I am very sure, that TN will also pick a batch of costumes to use ingame just on their own.
I do hope, they chose one costume for each character...but that would be a lot of work and not every character might get a really good design out of this contest. So, maybe they release one or two sets, that cover about 12 fighters altogether, just like the DLC sets, they've released before.

I guess that's one drawback for an entry to not to get materialized into DLC. I think it somewhat manifested in a lot of costumes in 5U. Long dresses/tight skirted costumes for example all possesses slits on the sides or at the back.
If an entry doesn't look like an exact replica, I suppose it shouldn't be problem if it looks like something Geri Halliwell would wear. Your entry actually reminded me ANTM Cycle 18.

i also hope so, because then the Mila and Leon submissions' chances of making it in game will skyrocket. I honestly could care less about winning the contest, I just want the outfits in game. aanyone else feel the same?
Pretty much, then again I have no clue what the winner gets.

makes me think there's not a chance in hell that even Mila will get an ingame costume, let alone Leon, whose costume TN wasn't impressed with, it seems.
