How much have characters changed from DOA4 > DOA5?

I've been watching DOA5 videos for a while now, and after checking out Kasumi gameplay I was really hyped seeing as her move set has been changed up. She has loads of brand new animations which is great.

I will be honest though, I don't have any real interest in Kasumi but seeing her in action gave me the impression that all characters would have a wide arsenal of new moves. But then I saw Kokoro, Lei Fang and Zack and realised they look exactly the same as their DOA4 counterparts.

I know this is still early but for those of you who have been playing the game so far, is what I am noticing on the mark? My character hasn't been revealed yet but I will be disappointed if she is just her DOA4 version with a graphical upgrade.

Zack hasn't changed much at all, and he's considered all the worse for it. Hopefully he gets more tweaks before launch. Kokoro/Leifang have changed a good deal, but you sorta have to play them to understand....

Like a lot of Leifang's moves are considered Sabaki's now, and automatically counter certain attacks. That's not something immediately apparent to everyone, but it totally changes how you'll have to fight against her. Kokoro I really don't want to try to comment on as others have come before me with much better breakdowns.

Bayman might look the same on the outside, but he got better in pretty much every way conceivable.

The theme thus far has been to make existing tools much more useful than they were before, while adding a few things here and there.

So it's mainly property changes on moves than brand new animations? Seems legitimate, still can't shake the feeling that characters like Kasumi have had a lot move attention paid to them than others. I just don't want to pick up my characters and have them feel the same as they did 7 years ago.

    Thanks for the reply.

Well, yea and no... I mean even a character like Hayate has had a lot about him changed even though he "looks" the same. It's the tiny things... like some of his strings have these micro-chargeups at the end of them now that break guard, whereas before they were totally unsafe on block. Simply having that there as an option changes how you have to respect him.

He's pretty bad. Granted right now I'd still say he is playable if you're willing to play DOA 4 style. He hasn't "lost" anything really, just everyone else gained a lot more than him. With luck, he is unfinished.

Im sure other characters have gotten nice changes. Kasumi's is just more noticeable since its a flashy teleport. Others got more less noticeable changes probably

Don't you guys like Zack's lean move ? I guess he will have plenty other fake moves like this :4::p+k::h: he had in DOA4. Looks fun.

I like it the way I like all gimmick moves.

Cute, fun.... doesn't make him good though.

Yeah, what should they do to make him better ?

Considering that he always has glasses on they could incorperate some cheesy eye lazer beam blasts as if he were black cyclops.

Give him additional safety on most of his attacks, for starters. He's too stupid unsafe right now.

Then give one unholdable stun outside of stance, and one inside of stance. His other primary attack inside of stance would need to be frame advantage on block so it can be used as a frame trap to bait someone into countering, and therefore getting hit by the unholdable stun option instead.

This would allow Zack to roll into his stance once he gets in on you, get his frame trap going, getting the unholdable stun, chain it with the other unholdable stun (outside of his stance), activate his CB, and take his opponent for a ride.

I think it would be great if all characters had frame advantage on certain attacks or even combo strings, it would add another level of depth to the combat. Plus it would help push to game towards being more competitive whilst not changing the game too much.

@Rikuto Any chance you could post a link for any of the breakdowns you mentioned about Kokoro's changes?

    Thanks in advance

Oh damn, I hope they give Eliot more Sabaki's to, now I can't wait to try out Lei Fang. Hopefully in DOA5 sparring mode they let you know which moves are sabaki's because you pretty much had no idea sabaki's were in DOA4 unless you randomly stumbled across them.

1 or 2 moves having +3/+4 frame advantage other than charge moves would be good. The main thing I do in VF5FS after a safe move that leaves me at -1 through -4 is fuzzy guard, or sidestep. However with moves that leave me at +4 on block allows me to keep the momentum going.

Thinking of changes, can anyone confirm whether Busa has been nerfed so far? Played some DOA4 earlier and it reminded me of how obnoxious he is to fight.

If he has been nerfed details on how would be great, thanks.

Basically his attacks have been slowed down so they take a bit longer to reach the hit frame.

He has been made a grappler archetype so his throws are rather fast and he got an air throw.

All of his izuna holds are advanced holds that will only connect on punch attacks so if an opponent attempts one against your kick, you win.

His ninpo has been altered. I don't remember how much and to what extent but I believe he can only go into it via string.

So he still hits really hard but he's slower, sounds good. Can he still crush most attacks with his 2F+K? Lastly do you know if his 8K got nerfed at all?

    Thanks for the reply

The character with the most important changes are Tina, Christie (because they are real women and before it was all about doll faces). Kasumi and Lei Fang have that "asian" thing in them which make them much more beautiful. And Bayman is handsome as hell.

Hitomi on the other hand didn't change much. At least in the Alpha Demo, she had some character.

That's why we can expect a lot from Helena and Lisa's makeovers.

Actually, wouldn't that be why we can expect them to not change much? If the Hitomi case says anything, it's saying that people liked the cute aegyo anime doll like faces. Also, even with that one picture of Lisa and Bass posing together. You can clearly see her face only changed a little bit from the old Lisa. Even Jann Lee just looks like super graphically updated version of his old self. Not much change(not that I have a problem I'm just saying.)
