Community How is the community now?

New to the DOA Franchise so i'm not familiar with the community, but when I play online I just come across some hateful people. When I join a lobby sometimes I just get kicked for no reason and since i'm new to DOA i'm I dont know how the system works. I'm not the greatest player but that doesn't give them the reason to start talking down to me. When that happens it discourages me from playing online, but I truly like this fighting game so I tend to brush it off and mute them. It's rare when I join lobbies where people don't care how bad or good you are. So how is the community nowadays is it fantastic, bad or both?

First off, welcome! :D

So my experience with XBL has been mostly positive. I don't play often but when I do the lobbies (if I can ever find one that is. lol) are mostly minimal-no drama. You have that occasional player sending messages: "That Brad player better stop turtling!" but everyone else usually just ignores them.

I think what you should do is find other PSN users on this site and make some friends to play online. :)

Every community has their bad apples. You either run into low level players that act disrespectful to you whether they lose/rarely win ("Your being cheap!")or the higher level elitist personality players that make you feel bad when you lose with insults ("get gud scrub!")and if you ever win they blame the lag/luck/them sand bagging etc.

Both categories are present in XBL/PSN lobbies usually, but they don't reflect the whole community. I met more people that I had a good time with on lobbies overall so it's all about meeting the right people.

There are a lot of poor sports on PSN. Sorry you've run into them, but if you're playing public lobbies, it's basically inevitable.

The good news is that they don't represent the community at large. There are many great people of all skill levels who are respectful, and will actually help and support you in any way they can, so long as you ask politely.

I'm on PSN. I'll give you and add if you like, and can introduce you to some other great PSN players.

Online fighting game players are generally the worst of the bunch however that's possibly just because it's always a one on one scenario. I ran into so much bullshit on all of the fighters I play that I eventually disabled voice and text interaction with people that aren't my friends altogether. Great feature of Xbox platforms, that. Saved me from a lot of garbage on Killer Instinct to be sure.

This community at large is pretty helpful and open to new people. When I say that, though, I mean FSD players. Randoms online? Crap shoot.

Thanks David for the warm welcome and Mr.Wah thanks for the recommendation for the streamer. Brute I would really appreciate that a lot. The feedback I got from the staff and members shed some light to me that there is hope for me to find some great people play game with.

Find good people and hang onto them! I play on PSN too, feel free to add me. I'm not nearly as good as most folks on here so if you want to feel good about some matches I'd be happy to play lol.

I honestly run into 99% polite players while online then again i mainly do random throwdowns and rank on Xbox live. Lobby might be a different beat altogether.

Maybe I don't play enough but I haven't really seen much 'bad" behavior online on PSN in terms of talking down to anyone and what not. Worst I've got is people complaining that I lag and that's how I win, which isn't far from the truth sometimes but that's pretty much it.

To be honest, I think this is a pretty good community from what I've seen so far. The worst I've ever experienced in random online meets was this one dude who I beat 3 to 0 in a ranked match and a while later he called for a rematch in which he ran right to Alpha and pulled the cheapest stuff I've seen in a while.

It was fairly matched, going back and forth for a while. I tried sending him some funny messages and whatnot, but he seemed to be a blank slate, only really focused in the fighting. After about 6 matches, I just decided to quit and block the dude because he was just making the game so damn unfun, blocking me out, constantly going for cheesy tactics. Even when I told him I had to go to the bathroom, he still kept beating on my dude.

Eventually I just left the dude to his 2-slot lobby and blocked him incase he was gonna throw me some "fan-mail". That's about the worst it got for me, a "try-hard". But all in all, I met some pretty alright dudes in this community. I really only wished more people played it locally where I'm at. It's always strictly Street Fighter IV and Tekken Tag 2, nothing more, nothing less.

Some players are nice; some players have egos even though they are scrubby as heck; I don't get how that happens.

The majority of online consists of fraudulent players that convince themselves they are good because they can win online yet know jack shit about the game or their character.

90%+ of the community is ignorant of their own game; I had to learn how to play this game by studying on my own with some assistance from the few truly skilled players this community has. If not for them I would be yet another fraudulent player.

Players whine on a day to day basis about common fighting game strategies; Some even whine about something as basic as grabbing.

I'll stop here. I have more negatives to say than positives but don't let that scare you. The people here that aren't dicks are an awesome crowd as well as the players that go out of their way to extend an helping hand.

You're in NY, check out the New York DOA Scene thread in the Matchmaking board. Some guys in New York, New Jersey, and Pa. Might find a local close by. Then start building it up one member at a time.

My local community is pretty much nonexistent, even though TFC is held in Raleigh, NC. But I always do my best to bring DOA5U to my college's FGC and I usually get people to play me in a couple of matches. PSN online varies, but you have to remember that PSN also has Core Fighters. So while more people are playing, many of them are bad sports. That isn't to say you don't run into those bad sports on XBL either, so keep that in mind. Overall, the DOA community seems to be doing pretty decent, but it just needs more offline support.

He's actually much closer to Rikuto and I than he is to the NYC scene. @GovTD is about an hour away from Rochester.
